Solvent-free synthesis of alumina supported cobalt catalysts for Fischer–Tropsch synthesis

A novel mechano-synthesis method has been elaborated in this work for the design of efficient cobalt-based Fischer–Tropsch catalysts. The process aims to reduce the total number of steps involved in the synthesis of solid catalysts and thus to avoid relevant toxic solutions generated during the catalyst preparation. The mechano-synthesis of the Co/Al2O3catalyst was processed in a low-energy vibratory micro mill and high energy planetary ball mill. Porous spherical γ-aluminas (1860 µm and 71 µm mean particle diameter) were used in this work as host compounds. Co3O4(3 µm mean particle diameter) has provided guest particles for mechano-synthesis. The catalysts were characterized by textural (surface area, porosity and particle size) and structural analyses (X-ray diffraction, TPR, SEM-EDX and microprobe). The microprobe images show deposition of Co3O4on the surface of the alumina and indicated no Co3O4diffusion inside the alumina pores. SEM-EDX mapping illustrated that cobalt coating tended to occur on surface of rounded shape of cracked alumina fragments. After milling, the crystallite size of Co3O4decreased to 15 nm from 30 to 50 nm. The TPR profiles indicated very low concentrations of inactive cobalt aluminate mixed compounds which are usually produced during the catalyst preparation by impregnation. In Fischer–Tropsch synthesis, the catalysts prepared using mechano-synthesis methods showed catalytic performance comparable to the catalysts prepared by impregnation. © 2016 Science Press

Paleocene A-type igneous suites in the Sikhote-Alin(the East Asian continental margin):Petrological,geochronological,isotopic,and geodynamic constraints

Global geodynamic reconstruction models of the Pacific margin of Asia refer to materials collected throughout Japan,Korea and northeastern China,but they lack data on southern ***,the Sikhote-Alin orogenic belt(NE Asia)constituted a single eastern margin of the paleo-Asian continent with the abovementioned territories in the *** isotopic,geochemical,and geochronological data show that Paleocene igneous activity(-61-55 Ma)is widely developed in south-ern *** rock compositions of the igneous rocks of this period yield ferroan,peraluminous,calc-alkaline to alkaline affinities,highly abundant LILE and HFSE(with pronounced Ba,Sr,Eu,and Ti neg-ative anomalies)and depleted *** initial melts,displaying Zr+y+Ce+Nb>350 ppm and 10,000×Ga/Al>2.6,derived from an OIB-like mantle source crystallised under fairly reducing conditions(below FMQ buffer),and yield high temperature of zircon saturation(>850℃),indicating typical A-type granite and related volcanic rock *** is logical to associate variations in A-type rock geochemical composition with an enrichment of the upper part of the magma chamber with fluid-mobile components involving a reditribution of major and trace elements through fluid-magmatic *** depletion in Ca,Mg,Ba,Sr,Eu in the A-type rocks is caused by an outflow of these elements by an oxi-dizing,initially reduced,acidic fluid beyond the zone of magma ***-rock Sr-Nd isotope data argue for the generation of the A-type rocks by melting of dominantly a juvenile mantle component with a subordinate component of the ancient *** variations of igneous rocks of the reference area:^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr(t)(0.7024-0.7118),ε_(Nd)(t)(-0.9 to-5.1)and T_(DM2)(934-1277 Ma),result from the mixing of the OIB-like mantle source with selective melts or from the metapelite contamination of the Samarka terrane accretionary prism and of the Zhuravlevka-Amur turbidite basin,later followed by fluid-magma

AIM:To provide a comprehensive and more representative national data on the disease,especially on treatment options and outcomes,and to determine access of retinoblastoma patients from Luzon,Visayas and Mindanao to eye care,and determine if access is associated with delay in consultation,staging and ***:Cohort study of retinoblastoma patients seen in eleven institutions located in the three major areas of the Philippines namely Luzon,Vizayas and Mindanao from ***:Totally 636 patients,involving 821 eyes,were ***(57%)were from Luzon and were seen in institutions in Luzon(72%).Annually,58±10 new cases were seen with 71%having unilateral *** delay of consultation remained long at 9(3,17)mo,longest in patients with unilateral disease(Pyas(Pystem,only 35%of patients had Stage 1 while 47%already had extraocular *** was the most common treatment received by 484 patients while intravenous chemotherapy was received by *** were 250(39%)patients alive,195(31%)dead,85(13%)abandoned,17(3%)refused and 89(14%)with no ***:This study presents the largest cohort of retinoblastoma patients in the Philippines in terms of patients’and participating institutions’number and geographical location and type of institution(private and public).It also presents more comprehensive data on the treatments used and outcomes(survival,globe salvage,and vision retention rates).Delay in consultation was still long among patients leading to advanced disease stage and lower survival *** increasing capacity to diagnose and manage retinoblastoma in the country,the delay of consultation remains long primarily due to accessibility issues to eye care institutions especially in the Visayas and financial *** delay was still significant that overall survival rate remain low.

CO_(2)hydrogenation is an attractive way to store and utilize carbon dioxide generated by industrial processes,as well as to produce valuable chemicals from renewable and abundant *** catalysts are commonly used for the hydrogenation of carbon oxides to ***-molybdenum catalysts have found numerous applications in catalysis,but have been never evaluated in the CO_(2)*** this work,the structural properties of iron-molybdenum catalysts without and with a promoting alkali metal(Li,Na,K,Rb,or Cs)were characterized using X-ray diffraction,hydrogen temperatureprogrammed reduction,CO_(2)temperature-programmed desorption,in-situ^(57)Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy and operando X-ray adsorption *** catalytic performance was evaluated in the CO_(2)*** the reaction conditions,the catalysts undergo the formation of an iron(Ⅱ)molybdate structure,accompanied by a partial reduction of molybdenum and carbidization of *** rate of CO_(2)conversion and product selectivity strongly depend on the promoting alkali metals,and electronegativity was identified as an important factor affecting the catalytic *** CO_(2)conversion rates were observed with the promoters having higher electronegativity,while low electronegativity of alkali metals favors higher light olefin selectivity.

Evidence for polarization-induced phase transformations and degradation in CH_(3)NH_(3)PbI_(3)

In solar cells,hybrid halide perovskites operate under constant bias,thus their stability towards electric field-induced degradation is of key *** we report on evidence of previously unidentified electric field-induced transitions and degradation path of CH_(3)NH_(3)PbI_(3)(MAPbI_(3))using elemental and phase *** films of MAPbI_(3) were deposited onto 1-2μm-pitch interdigitated electrodes and subjected to direct current(DC)-*** MAPbI_(3) layer polarized withylammonium-rich MAPbI_(3)-y(yylammonium and iodine provokes degradation of MAPbI_(3).Using nanofocus grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering(GIWAXS),we unambiguously showed that the bias voltage induces the transformation ofβ-MAPbI_(3) to metastableδ-MAPbI_(3) polymorph via alignment of polar organic cation with the electric *** transformation is partially reversible upon field ***,once formed,δ-MAPbI_(3) disrupts the morphology of pristine film and undergoes decomposition toβ-MAPbI_(3)(β-MAPI)and PbI_(2).With the aforementioned compositional and phase changes,only MA-rich part serves as the charge separation layer,while the I-rich excitation is blocked with the PbI_(2) barrier serving as holes trapping *** observations reveal the intermediate steps in electric-field-driven degradation of halide perovskites and show the role of polar cations in the process,which is instructive for further material design with higher stability metrics.

Potato virus y(PVy)is a non-persistent virus that is transmitted by many aphid species and causes significant damage to potato *** constructed a spatially-explicit model simulating PVy spread in a potato field and used it to investigate possible effects of transmission efficiency,initial inoculum levels,vector behavior,vector abundance,and timing of peak vector activity on PVy incidence at the end of a simulated growing *** PVy incidence in planted seed resulted in lower virus infection at the end of the ***,when populations of efficient PVy vectors were high,significant PVy spread occurred even when initial virus inoculum was ***-colonizing aphids were more important for PVy spread compared to colonizing aphids,particularly at high *** early-season peak in the numbers of noncolonizing aphids resulted in the highest number of infected plants in the end of the season,while mid-and late-season peaks caused relatively little virus *** results highlight the importance of integrating different techniques to prevent the number of PVy-infected plants from exceeding economically acceptable levels instead of trying to control aphids within potato *** management plans should be implemented very early in a growing season.

Momentum considerations inside near-zero index materials

Near-zero index (NZI) materials, i.e., materials having a phase refractive index close to zero, are known to enhance or inhibit light-matter interactions. Most theoretical derivations of fundamental radiative processes rely on energetic considerations and detailed balance equations, but not on momentum considerations. Because momentum exchange should also be incorporated into theoretical models, we investigate momentum inside the three categories of NZI materials, i.e., inside epsilon-and-mu-near-zero (EMNZ), epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) and mu-near-zero (MNZ) materials. In the context of Abraham–Minkowski debate in dispersive materials, we show that Minkowski-canonical momentum of light is zero inside all categories of NZI materials while Abraham-kinetic momentum of light is zero in ENZ and MNZ materials but nonzero inside EMNZ materials. We theoretically demonstrate that momentum recoil, transfer momentum from the field to the atom and Doppler shift are inhibited in NZI materials. Fundamental radiative processes inhibition is also explained due to those momentum considerations inside three-dimensional NZI materials. Absence of diffraction pattern in slits experiments is seen as a consequence of zero Minkowski momentum. Lastly, consequence on Heisenberg inequality, microscopy applications and on the canonical momentum as generator of translations are discussed. Those findings are appealing for a better understanding of fundamental light-matter interactions at the nanoscale as well as for lasing applications.
