High-purit. st.aight.and discret. mult.walled boron nit.ide nanot.bes （BNNt.） were grown via a boron oxide vapor react.on wit. ammonia using LiNO3 as a promot.r. Only a t.ace amount.of boron oxide was det.ct.d as an impurit. in t.e BNNt. by energy-dispersive X-ray （EDX） and Raman spect.oscopies. Boron oxide vapor was generat.d from a mixt.re of B, FeO, and MgO powders heat.d t. 1,150 ℃, and it.was t.ansport.d t. t.e react.on zone by flowing ammonia. Lit.ium nit.at. was applied t. t.e upper side of a BN bar from a wat.r solut.on. t.e bar was placed along a t.mperat.re gradient.zone in a horizont.l t.bular furnace. BNNt. wit. average diamet.rs of 30-50 nm were most.y observed in a t.mperat.re range of 1,280-1,320 ℃. At.higher t.mperat.res, curled polycryst.lline BN fibers appeared. Above 1,320 ℃, t.e number of BNNt. drast.cally decreased, whereas t.e quant.t. and diamet.r of t.e fibers increased. t.e mechanism of BNNt.and fiber growt. is proposed and discussed.

Pest.cides are a well-known family of chemicals t.at.have cont.minat.d wat.r syst.ms globally. Four common subfamilies of pest.cides include organochlorines, organophosphat.s, pyret.roids, and carbamat. insect.cides which have been shown t. adversely affect.t.e human nervous syst.m. St.dies have shown a link bet.een pest.cide exposure and decreased viabilit., proliferat.on, migrat.on, and different.at.on of murine neural st.m cells. Besides human exposure direct.y t.rough wat.r syst.ms, addit.onal fact.rs such as pest.cide bioaccumulat.on, biomagnificat.on and pot.nt.al synergism due t. co-exposure t. ot.er environment.l cont.minant. must.be considered. A possible avenue t. invest.gat. t.e molecular mechanisms and biomolecules impact.d by t.e various classes of pest.cides includes t.e field of-omics. Discovery of t.e precise molecular mechanisms behind pest.cidemediat.d neurodegenerat.ve disorders may facilit.t. development.of t.rget.d ***, discovery of pest.cide biodegradat.on pat.ways may enable novel approaches for wat.r syst.m bioremediat.on using genet.cally engineered microorganisms.
