One of the difficulties in creating a blood substitute on the basis of human haemoglobin(Hb) is the toxic nature of Hb when it is outside the safe environment of the red blood *** plasma protein haptoglobin(Hp) takes care of the Hb physiologically leaked into the plasma-it binds Hb and makes it much less toxic while retaining the Hb’s high oxygen transporting *** used Electron Paramagnetic Resonance(EPR) spectroscopy to show that the protein bound radical induced by H2O2 in Hb and Hp-Hb complex is formed on the same tyrosine residue(s),but,in the complex,the radical is found in a more hydrophobic environment and decays slower than in unbound Hb,thus mitigating its oxidative *** data obtained in this study might set new directions in engineering blood substitutes for transfusion that would have the oxygen transporting efficiency typical of Hb,but which would be non-toxic.

An increasing number of studies provide evidence for the existence of a microbiota-gut-brain axis and its potential involvement in the development of sporadic Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative *** neuropathologic hallmark of Parkinson’s disease is the presence of brain intraneuronal aggregates of misfolded alpha-synuclein,known as Lewy *** gut microbiota products may trigger alpha-synuclein conformational changes in the neurons of the enteric nervous system,which can then spread to the brain in a prion-like fashion through the vagus *** may interfere with neuroinflammatory pathways and susceptibility to *** this review,we assess the potential role of putative gut microbiota products in the etiopathogeny of Parkinson’s disease,with a special emphasis on functional bacterial amyloid proteins,bacterial biosurfactants,endotoxins and short-chain fatty *** possible roles of molecular hydrogen,a common byproduct of bacterial fermentation,are also addressed.

In the eighth decade of the last century extensive clinical delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) skin tests to an intradermal injection of a pharmaceutical allogeneic human Placenta Suspension (phPS) performed in obstetrical, gynecological and control group patients have shown positive reaction in 239 patients with clinical conditions having been as histopatrhological substratum, a hypoxia-induced adaptive/reactive epithelial cell proliferation, e.g. syncytiotrophoblastic cell hyperplasia, endometrial cell hyperplasia, or different gynecological cancers. Because the immune response against phPS has shown antigenc similarities between normal placental and endometrial hyperplastic cells and different kinds of cancer cells and because many cancers adopt an embryonic stem-like gene expression pattern, it is suggested that the profile of hypoxia-promoting placental and endometrial stem cell proliferation is more embryonic-like, and that the immune respose against phPS is expected to cross-react with tumor cells in vivo. In the process of persistent growth and accelerated oxygen consumption by hyperplastic cytotrophoblastic cells and neoplastic cells in a hypoxic microenvironment, a basic shift in energy metabolism is accompanied by appearance of heat shock proteins (HSPs), of fetal isoenzymes and of membrane glycoproteins (reappearance of oncofetal antigens, OFAs), which, as result of their overexpression/amplification may induce a host immunological response. Thus, it is assumed that phPS prepared from full-term human placentas delivered after a spontaneous labor comprises stem/progenitor cells reverted to a proliferative embryonic stem cell-like-state upon exposure to labor-inducing intrmittent placental hypoxia and that by expressing HSP/OFAs could immunize to generate immune response againjst a variety of antigens that are shared by different kinds of epithelial cancers. Background:Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) on the auricle is believed to carry a higher risk of metastatic *** rates of lymphatic metastasis reported in the literature have varied *** are no established prognostic criteria to determine which of these tumors are higher risk and warrant prophylactic treatment of the associated lymphatic ***:To retrospectively evaluate outcomes after surgical treatment of auricular CSCC in our department,examining excision completeness,tumor recurrence,and lymphatic ***,to identify factors associated with lymphatic ***:One hundred and thirty‐eight consecutive cases of auricular SCC were excised from 126 patients in our department over a 7‐year period (January 2012–December 2018).Data were retrospectively collected on patient characteristics,tumor histology,surgical procedures,and follow‐***:Incomplete initial excision occurred in 17 cases (12.32%).Six patients (4.76%) had a local *** metastasis occurred in eight patients (6.35%),on average within 10.25 months after primary *** patients with metastasis died during follow‐up,with a mean survival of 10.2 *** age was associated with lymphatic metastasis (P = 0.0267).Other factors,including tumor recurrence,size,grade,cartilage invasion,and positive margins,were evaluated and not significantly associated with ***:In this study,the metastatic rate of auricular SCC was 6.35%,which is within the previously reported *** histological prognostic factors were identified in this study,which may be due to our limited sample *** the absence of established prognostic criteria,decisions regarding prophylactic treatment should be made on an individual basis with multidisciplinary support.

The purpose of the experiment was the follow-up in time of the course of joint inflammation phenomena in laboratory animals (white female adult Wistar rats) by determining particular biological, hematological, radiological, osteodensitometric, immunological and anatomic-pathological parameters and by assessing the effects of Leflunomide (Arava) on the course of the disease. ARAVA®(Leflunomide) is a pyrimidine synthesis inhibitor. The experimental study was conducted for 8 weeks. We have also assessed the side effects of the therapy on their liver, myocardium and kidney. Leflunomide therapy improved the course of the clinical and paraclinical parameters, but it did not cure the condition. The positive results in the joints were accompanied by many histological alterations. The experiment revealed the toxic visceral effects of Leflunomide on the liver, heart and kidney.

Experimental Model for Biological Control of Stored Grain Pests

The insecticidal efficacy of the diatomaceous earth against granary weevil, Sitophilus granarius L. （Coleoptera： Curculionidae）, with two essential oils for the degree of repellent activity, was evaluated in an experimental model in laboratory tests. The diatomaceous earth was obtained from three Romanian sources （Patirlagele, Urloaia and Adamclisi） and was applied at four doses of 100, 300, 500 and 900 ppm （5, 15, 25 and 45 mg, respectively） on three replicates each variant. Mortality of S. granarius adults was estimated after 7, 14 and 21 d of exposure on treated grain. The insecticidal efficacy of the examined diatomaceous earth against the granary weevil was highly influenced by exposure time, dose and essential oil type. The longer exposure times increased weevil mortality in the case of low doses （100 ppm and 300 ppm）. After 60 d from the experiment initiation, the exposed grains from each variant were assessed about the progeny production. For the model proposed as bio-experiment, two essential oils in concentration of 80μL/L air and 125μL/L of Thymus vulgaris L. and Satureja hortensis L., respectively, were tested compared with untreated control in laboratory conditions. Both plant species belong to the family Lamiaceae, and the major active insecticidal compound was thymol among other providing to terpenoid class, such as eugenol and linalool. The species S. granarius chosen for experimental model was grown in the Research-Development Institute of Plant Protection （RDIPP） Bucharest bio-base. The results show that mortality induced from diatomaceous earth was at the level between 83.33% and 100% in all variants after 21 d, compared with untreated control and a standard product Silicosec.
