MXenes,a newly emerging class of layered two dimensional(2D)materials,are promising solid lubricants due to their 2D structure consisting of weakly-bonded layers with a low shear strength and ability to form beneficial *** work aims at evaluating for the first time MXenes lubrication performance and tribofilm formation ability on different metallic substrates(mirror-lapped Fe and Cu discs).After depositing MXenes via ethanol(1 wt%)on the substrates,pronounced differences in the resulting substrate-dependent frictional evolution are *** MXenes are capable to reduce friction for both substrates after the full evaporation of ethanol,MXenes lubricating effect on Cu is long-lasting,with a 35-fold increased lifetime compared to *** spectra acquired in the wear-tracks of the substrates and counter-bodies reveal notable differences in the friction-induced chemical changes depending on the substrate *** case of Fe,the progressive failure of MXenes lubrication generates different Fe oxides on both the substrate and the ball,resulting in continuously increasing friction and a poor lubrication *** Cu,sliding induces the formation of a Ti_(3)C_(2)-based tribofilm on both rubbing surfaces,enabling a long-lasting lubricating *** work boosts further experimental and theoretical work on MXenes involved tribo-chemical processes.

Many space missions require the execution of large-angle attitude slews during which stringent pointing constraints must be *** example,the pointing direction of a space telescope must be kept away from directions to bright objects,maintaining a prescribed safety *** this paper we propose an open-loop attitude control algorithm which determines a rest-to-rest maneuver between prescribed attitudes while ensuring that any of an arbitrary number of body-fixed directions of light-sensitive instruments stays clear of any of an arbitrary number of space-fixed *** approach is based on an application of a version of Pontryagin’s Maximum Principle tailor-made for optimal control problems on Lie grou.s.a.d the pointing constraints are ensured by a judicious choice of the cost *** existence of up to three first integrals of the resulting system equations is established,depending on the number of light-sensitive and forbidden *** first integrals can be exploited in the numerical implementat.on of the attitude control algorithm,as is shown in the case of one light-sensitive and several forbidden *** results of the test cases presented confirm the applicability of the proposed algorithm.

Tracking the Ti^(4+)substitution in phlogopite by spectroscopic imaging:A tool for unravelling the growth of micas at HP-HT conditions

Phlogopite solid-solutions have a wide pressure-temperature(P-T)stability field and are ubiquitous in a wide variety of geological settings,from deep lithosphere magmatic environments to upper crust metamorphic *** composition represents therefore a valuable physical-chemical archive and may provide important information regarding its crystallization and the petrogenesis of the *** this paper we examine the phlogopite phenocrysts from the well-known Fort Regent mica-bearing lamprophyre minette from ***(Island of Jersey,uK).Phlogopite phenocrystals from lamprophyres generally show normal-step and continuous compositional zoning,however those from the Fort Regent minette show a peculiar texture characterized by dark brown high-Ti(average TiO_(2)≈8.5 wt.%)cores enveloped by euhedral low-to mid-amplitude zonation due to oscillatory contents in Ti,Fe and ***-barometry modelling based on biotite-only composition yields relatively high P-T estimates(T≈970±54℃at P≈0.73±0.13 GPa)for cores whereas lower values(T≈790±54℃at P≈0.29±0.13 GPa)are obtained for the outer *** temperatures(T≈1075±54℃)but extremely high and anomalous pressure values(P≈1.82±0.13 GPa)are obtained for the yellowish inner *** combination of electron micro probe(EMP)analysis and single-crystal infra-red(FTIR)imaging in the OH-stretching region shows that the exceptional and oscillatory Ti contents are due to the Ti-vacancy substitution,typical of crystallization and growth processes of HP/HT *** imaging provides additional insight for this process,confirming the dominant dioctahedral nature for the Ti-Fe-rich cores and outer *** of thermobaric estimates obtained from the phlogopite compositiononly model,based on the fine-scale compositional evolution,shows that pressure-temperature values from low-Ti high-Mg domains should be carefully evaluated because the substitution mechanisms during the dark mica growth are not univocal

The present study deals with the planktonic foraminiferal biostratigraphy of the Miocene-Pliocene sequence of three petroleum exploration wells (BY7-1-1,KP6-1-1 and KP91-1) in the Pearl River Mouth Basin (PRMB).In general,the three wells contain a fairly well-preserved,abundant foraminiferal *** proposed planktonic foraminiferal zonation follows the scheme updated by Wade et al.(2011).Nineteen planktonic foraminiferal zones have been recognized,14 zones (zones M1-M14) for the Miocene and 5 zones (zones PL1-PL5) for the *** zonation is correlated with previously published biostratigraphic subdivisions of the Neogene succession in the PRMB and with international foraminiferal *** zonal boundaries are mostly defined by the last appearance datum of zonal taxa of planktonic foraminifera,which is more reliable than the FAD (first appearance datum) events for ditch cutting *** in the coiling of Globorotalia menardii (s.l.) are also used to define the zonal boundaries,where no LADs (last appearance datum) are *** Fohsella fohsi group,comprising useful taxa for delimiting zonal boundaries of the middle Miocene in other areas,has a poor record within the Pearl River Mouth Basin due to unfavorable ecological conditions,and cannot be used for the studied *** from the previously reported zonal scheme for the PRMB,the present zonation is based on correlation with the current standard planktonic foraminiferal zonation,with calibrated absolute ages.

Improved prediction of clay soil expansion using machine learning algorithms and meta-heuristic dichotomous ensemble classifiers

soil swelling-related disaster is considered as one of the most devastat.ng geo-hazards in modern ***,proper determination of a soil’s ability to expand is very vital for achieving a secure and safe ground for ***,this study has provided a novel and intelligent approach that enables an improved estimation of swelling by using kernelised machines(Bayesian linear regression(BLR)&bayes point machine(BPM)support vector machine(sVM)and deep-support vector machine(D-sVM));(multiple linear regressor(REG),logistic regressor(LR)and artificial neural network(ANN)),tree-based algorithms such as decision forest(RDF)&boosted trees(BDT).Also,and for the first time,meta-heuristic classifiers incorporating the techniques of voting(VE)and stacking(sE)were *** independent scenarios of explanatory features’combination that influence soil behaviour in swelling were *** results indicated BLR as possessing the highest amount of deviation from the predictor variable(the actual swell-strain).REG and BLR performed slightly better than ANN while the meta-heuristic learners(VE and sE)produced the best overall performance(greatest R2 value of 0.94 and RMsE of 0.06%exhibited by VE).CEC,plasticity index and moisture content were the features considered to have the highest level of *** binary classifiers(sVM,D-sVM and BPM)gave better accuracy(average accuracy and recall rate of 0.93 and 0.60)compared to ANN,LR and ***-driven diagnostic test indicated that the meta-heuristic models’best performance occurred when ML training was conducted using k-fold validation ***,it is recommended that the concepts developed herein be deployed during the preliminary phases of a geotechnical or geological site characterisation by using the best performing meta-heuristic models via their background coding resource.

sponges are open cellular materials with numerous interesting ***,the potential of compartmentalized sponges has not been explored although many new properties and applications could be *** found that compartmentalized fbrous ultraporous polymer sponges with superhydrophobic surfaces could be designed as virtually wall-less reaction *** this,for example,the efcient removal of CO_(2) from water and the controlled mineralization of calcium carbonate are *** high porosity(>99%)and superhydrophobicity make these sponges ideal candidates to hold alkanolamine solution for absorbing CO_(2) and exchange gas through the walls of the *** tubular sponge exhibits a much higher evaporation rate than a glass tube with the same diameter due to the much larger contact area between water and ***,the spongy reaction container also possesses a much faster adsorption rate,smaller equilibration time and higher efciency for CO_(2) adsorption than the glass tube *** addition,these tubular sponges are also utilized to precipitat. calcium carbonate by ammonium carbonate decomposition,which can control the deposition rates and products by tailoring the porosity and surface chemistry in the *** new sponges provide an ideal basis for numerous new applications,for example,as breathable pipe lines for gas-liquid exchange,slag slurry carbonization,humidifer,and blood enricher.
