The realization of lossless metasurfaces with true chirality crucially requires the fabrication of three-dimensional structures,constraining experimental feasibility and hampering practical *** though the threedimensional assembly of metallic nanostructures has been demonstrated previously,the resulting plasmonic resonances suffer from high intrinsic and radiative *** concept of photonic bound states in the continuum(BICs)is instrumental for tailoring radiative losses in diverse geometries,especially when implemented using lossless dielectrics,but applications have so far been limited to planar ***,we introduce a novel nanofabrication approach to unlock the height of individual resonators within all-dielectric metasurfaces as an accessible parameter for the efficient control of resonance features and nanophotonic *** particular,we realize out-of-plane symmetry breaking in quasi-BIC metasurfaces and leverage this design degree of freedom to demonstrate an optical all-dielectric quasi-BIC metasurface with maximum intrinsic chirality that responds selectively to light of a particular circular polarization depending on the structural *** experimental results not only open a new paradigm for all-dielectric BICs and chiral nanophotonics,but also promise advances in the realization of efficient generation of optical angular momentum,holographic metasurfaces,and parity-time symmetry-broken optical systems.

An uncommon cause of gastro-duodenal ulceration

Gastrointestinal ulcers occur frequently and are mainly caused by h pylori infection. In this report, we present a rare case of gastro-duodenal ulcer following selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT). SIRT is a palliative treatment for unresectable liver tumours. During SIRT, 90Y-microspheres are infused into the hepatic artery. Pre- treatment evaluation for the presence of arterial shunts to neighbouring organs should be determined in order to avoid complications of SIRT.

Ultrahigh-resolution nonlinear optical imaging of the armchair orientation in 2D transition metal dichalcogenides

We used nonlinear laser scanning optical microscopy to study atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs)and revealed,with unprecedented resolution,the orientational distribution of armchair directions and their degree of organization in the two-dimensional(2D)crystal *** particular,we carried out polarization-resolved second-harmonic generation(PShG)imaging for monolayer WS2 and obtained,with high-precision,the orientation of the main crystallographic axis(armchair orientation)for each individual 120×120 nm^(2) pixel of the 2D crystal *** nanoscale resolution was realized by fitting the experimental PShG images,obtained with sub-micron precision,to a new generalized theoretical model that accounts for the nonlinear optical properties of *** enabled us to distinguish between different crystallographic domains,locate boundaries and reveal fine *** a consequence,we can calculate the mean orientational average of armchair angle distributions in specific regions of interest and define the corresponding standard deviation as a figure-of-merit for the 2D crystal quality.

Clinical outcome after surgery on schwannomas in the extremities

Small ubiquitin-like modifier （SUMO） conjugation affects a broad range of processes in plants, including growth, flower initiation, pathogen defense, and responses to abiotic stress. here, we investigate in vivo and in vitro a SUMO conjugating enzyme with a Cys to Ser change in the active site, and show that it has a dominant negative effect. In planta expression significantly perturbs normal development, leading to growth retardation, early flowering and gene expression changes. We suggest that the mutant protein can serve as a probe to investigate sumoylation, also in plants for which poor genetic infrastructure precludes analysis via loss-of-function mutants.

Evolutionary ecology of microsporidia associated with the invasive ladybird harmonia axyridis

Invasive species are characterized by the rapid growth and spread of their populations after establishing a foothold in new habitats, and there are now many examples of such species negatively affecting biodiversity and the economy. It is unclear why some species can become successful invaders, whereas most （even if closely related） remain noninvasive. We previously proposed a hypothesis that parasites associated with invading species can promote their invasive success if they are harmless toward the invaders but harmful to their competitors and/or predators in the newly colonized habitat. here we discuss whether microsporidia that have recently been discovered in the invasive ladybird harmonia axyridis contribute to its invasive success. We show that all h. axyridis beetles sourced from diverse collection sites all over the world carry abundant microsporidia. This suggests that both native and invasive h. axyridis populations are associated with these tolerated parasites, which were likely to have existed in native populations before expansion rather than being acquired in newly colonized areas. We describe the pathogenesis of the microsporidia during different developmental stages of h. axyridis and we address the possibility that the predation of its infected eggs and larvae by competing native ladybird species may lead to their infection and ultimately to their decline. Finally, we discuss our initial hypothesis： microsporidia that are tolerated by an invasive vector insect can be active against susceptible native competitors and/or predator species.

Tyrosine kinase of insulin-like growth factor receptor as target for novel treatment and prevention strategies of colorectal cancer

AIM： To investigate the antineoplastic potency of the novel insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor （IGF-1R） tyrosine kinase inhibitor （TKI） NVP-AEW541 in cell lines and primary cell cultures of human colorectal cancer （CRC）. METhODS： Cells of primary colorectal carcinomas were from 8 patients. Immunostaining and crystal violet staining were used for analysis of growth factor receptor protein expression and detection of cell number changes, respectively. Cytotoxicity was determined by measuring the release of the cytoplasmic enzyme lactate dehydrogenase （LDh）. The proportion of apoptotic cells was determined by quantifying the percentage of sub-G1 （hypodiploid） cells. Cell cycle status reflected by the DNA content of the nuclei was detected by flow cytometry. RESULTS： NVP-AEW541 dose-dependently inhibited the proliferation of colorectal carcinoma cell lines and primary cell cultures by inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. Apoptosis was characterized by caspase-3 activation and nuclear degradation. Cell cycle was arrested at the G1/S checkpoint. The NVP-AEW541-mediated cell cycle-related signaling involved the inactivation of Akt and extracellular signal-regulated kinase （ERK） 1/2, the upregulation of the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors p21^waf1/CIP1 and p27^kjp1, and the downregulation of the cell cycle promoter cyclin D1. Moreover, BAX was upregulated during NVP-AEW541-induced apoptosis, whereas Bcl-2 was downregulated. Measurement of LDh release showed that the antineoplastic effect of NVP-AEW541 was not due to general cytotoxicity of the compound. however, augmented antineoplastic effects were observed in combination treatments of NVP-AEW541 with either 5-FU, or the EGFR-antibody cetuximab, or the hMG-CoA-reductase inhibitor fluvastatin. CONCLUSION： IGF-1R-TK inhibition is a promising novel approach for either monoor combination treatment strategies of colorectal carcinoma and even for CRC chemoprevention.

This mechanism proposed by us is well known and it is considered to be most valid from all the proposed theories concerning bioeffects of weak electromagnetic fields （see Creasey and Goldberg and Liboff）.

Effects of temperature,ph and O_(2) on the removal of hydrogen sulfide from biogas by external biological desulfurization in a full scale fixed-bed trickling bioreactor(FBTB)

hydrogen sulfide(h_(2)S)is a critical component of biogas formed under anaerobic conditions by sulfur and sulfate reducing bacteria from animal manure and renewable energy crops.h_(2)S causes high corrosion in equipment,has a negative environmental impact,inhibits the biogas formation process and is furthermore odorous and *** several methods for internal and external desulfurization found their way into practice and had been explored at laboratory scale,no data were available on the performance of such methods in full scale practice,especially for an external fixed-bed trickling bioreactor(FBTB).The effects of temperature,ph and air ratio on h_(2)S removal efficiency(RE)were *** study was conducted at a research biogas plant with a given output of 96 m^(3) biogas per hour,and an h_(2)S concentration ranging between 500 ppm and 600 ppm(1 ppm=1 cm^(3)/m^(3))on *** FBTB column has been designed to hold a packing volume of 2.21 m^(3) at a gas retention time of 84 seconds being loaded at an average of 32.88 g h_(2)S/(m^(3)·h).The highest h_(2)S RE of 98% was found at temperatures between 30℃ and 40℃.A major decline in RE to 21%-45%was observed at temperatures from 5℃ to 25℃.The results clearly showed a temperature optimum range for sulfate reducing *** results reveal that RE is little affected by different ph values and air *** the experimental period,the practical suitability of the FBTB system could be proved while avoiding the disadvantages of internal biological desulfurization methods.
