In the field of advanced driver assistance systems,researchers and developers make great efforts to reduce drivers' workload and to keep it on an ideal level *** the course of these efforts the physiological detection of workload,also in commercial vehicles,is coming more and more to the fore.A total of 44 driving situations have been identified in an exploratory survey of truck drivers which are relevant for the resulting driver *** includes various driving situations as well as driving maneuvers and traffic situations,such as high traffic density or different weather *** regard to objectively measurable parameters,these 44 situations were examined in a study with 37 professional truck drivers in the dynamic truck driving simulator of the Institute of Automotive *** addition to the changes in pupil dilation the electrodermal activity and a subjective assessment based on the Rating Scale of Mental Effort(RSME)were used in order to detect the mental *** results were validated in a field trial subsequent to this driving simulator *** the selection of the test course,particular attention was paid to a high degree of similarities between realworld and simulated roadway *** evaluation of the electrodermal activity measured in the real traffic study as an indicator for mental workload revealed the *** most demanding activity during the performed study was making phone calls,whereby the participants were confronted with a planning *** attention to an accessing car was also a high demanding task with anticipatory requirements with respect to the car driver's *** routine tasks such as crossing intersections,the evaluation of electrodermal activity does not lead to statistical differences between the investigated *** contrast,a self-report measurement of mental workload conducted in parallel shows sufficient sensitivity and therefore significant differences between th

Exploring the degradation behavior of MgXAg alloys by in vitro electrochemical methods

Magnesium as biodegradable biomaterial could serve as bone augmentation material in implant *** knowledge about the predictability of the biodegradation process is essential as this process needs to go hand in hand with the formation of new bone to gradually replace the augmentation ***,this work aimed to assess if the electrochemistry(EC)measurements of the corrosion process correlate with the surface features at various time points during the surface degradation,in order to describe the degradation process of Mg and Mg alloys more reliably,under the assumption that differences in EC behavior can be detected and related to specific patterns on the *** this test setup,a special optical chamber was used for electrochemical measurements on Mg and Mg-alloys(Mg2Ag,Mg4Ag,and Mg6Ag).Specimens were investigated using different circulating cell culture solutions as electrolytes,these were minimum essential medium(MEM),Hank’s Balanced Salt Solution(HBSS),and MEM+(MEM with added sodium hydrogen carbonate)at 37℃.Open circuit potential measurements(OCP)over 30 min followed by cyclic polarization were *** electrochemistry data,including OCP,exchange current density and corrosion potential,were compared with visible changes at the surface during these treatments over *** results show that the addition of silver(Ag)leads to a“standardization”of the degradation regardless of the selected test *** is currently difficult to correlate the visible microscopic changes with the data taken from the ***,further investigations are necessary.

Stigma and its impact on the families of former soldiers of the German Armed Forces: An exploratory study

Background: Military families who have a family member with a mental illness see themselves confronted with many demands. Stigmatization is one of these challenges. Stigmatization affects not only the individual who suffers from a mental illness but also other family members via stigma by association and vicarious stigma. Stigma by association occurs when mental illness stigma spills over to individuals associated with an individual with a mental illness. Vicarious stigma describes the suffering of family members when they note the impact of stigma on their relative with mental illness. As a societal phenomenon, stigma plays out in social interactions and might therefore influence the social networks of families. It is also associated with healthcare ***: Narrative interviews were conducted with 15 family members(partners, spouses, parents and children) of former soldiers of the German Armed Forces with a service-induced mental illness. The transcribed interview data were analyzed using a thematic analysis approach, in which codes were formed and emerging themes were systemized. Relationships between stigma, the families’ reactions to it, its effects on their social relationships and its interference with their healthcare utilization were ***: This study provides a detailed description of how relatives of former German soldiers with mental health problems experience stigma by association and vicarious stigma. Their perceptions are shown in a model that describes stigma-related attitudes, reactions to them and their effects on the social relationships of former soldiers’ families. These families felt stigmatized because of the former soldiers’ mental illness(mental illness stigma) and the military context in which it occurred(former soldier stigma). A polarization-diversity loop with a silicon waveguide with a lateral p-i-n diode as a nonlinear medium is used to realize polarization insensitive four-wave mixing. Wavelength conversion of seven dual-polarization 16-quadrature amplitude modulation(QAM) signals at 16 GBd is demonstrated with an optical signal-to-noise ratio penalty below 0.7 dB. High-quality converted signals are generated thanks to the low polarization dependence(≤0.5 dB) and the high conversion efficiency(CE) achievable. The strong Kerr nonlinearity in silicon and the decrease of detrimental free-carrier absorption due to the reverse-biased p-i-n diode are key in ensuring high CE levels.
