Background:There exist few maximal oxygen uptake(VO_(2max))non-exercise-based prediction equations,fewer using machine learning(ML),and none specifically for older *** direct measurement of VO_(2max)is infeasible in large epidemiologic cohort studies,we sought to develop,validate,compare,and assess the transportability of several ML VO_(2max)prediction ***:The Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging(BLSA)participants with valid VO2_(max)tests were included(n=1080).Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator,linear-and tree-boosted extreme gradient boosting,random forest,and support vector machine(SVM)algorithms were trained to predict VO_(2max)*** developed these algorithms for:(a)the overall BLSA,(b)by sex,(c)using all BLSA variables,and(d)variables common in aging ***,we quantified the associations between measured and predicted VO_(2max)and ***:The age was 69.0±10.4 years(mean±SD)and the measured VO_(2max)was 21.6±5.9 mL/kg/*** absolute shrinkage and selection operator,linear-and tree-boosted extreme gradient boosting,random forest,and support vector machine yielded root mean squared errors of 3.4 mL/kg/min,3.6 mL/kg/min,3.4 mL/kg/min,3.6 mL/kg/min,and 3.5 mL/kg/min,*** quartiles of measured VO_(2max)showed an inverse gradient in mortality *** VO_(2max)variables yielded similar effect estimates but were not robust to ***:Measured VO_(2max)is a strong predictor of *** ML can improve the accuracy of prediction as compared to simpler approaches but estimates of association with mortality remain sensitive to *** studies should seek to reproduce these results so that VO_(2max),an important vital sign,can be more broadly studied as a modifiable target for promoting functional resiliency and healthy aging.

Repeat-pass space-surface bistatic SAR tomography:accurate imaging and first experiment

Space-surface bistatic synthetic aperture radar(SS-BiSAR) offers an additional observation angle for monostatic spaceborne SAR, making it a promising technology for high-accuracy deformation retrieval technology in local regions. Repeat-pass SS-BiSAR tomography can accurately estimate the surfaces of buildings and steep areas, effectively removing terrain phases during deformation retrieving. However, inaccuracies in the orbital ephemeris can lead to image geometry distortion, reducing image pair coherence,introducing interferometric phase errors, and consequently deteriorating tomographic precision. This paper precisely models the image geometry distortion and interferometric phase error caused by repeat-pass ephemeris error. We propose an ephemeris correction method based on the chirp-z transform to address these issues. Furthermore, we introduce an accurate tomography model to improve 3D reconstruction *** first SS-BiSAR tomography experiment, conducted using the Chinese Lutan-1 satellite, demonstrates that the correlation coefficient is improved by 0.16 after ephemeris error correction. Moreover, the density and precision of the tomographic point cloud are improved by 13.7% and 12.1%, respectively.

Background:Few studies have evaluated the effect of drought on the morphophysiological characteristics of African C_(4) *** investigated how drought affects leaf gas exchange characteristics,biomass partitioning,and water use efficiencies of Enteropogon macrostachyus and Cenchrus ***:The grasses were grown in a controlled environment under optimum conditions,that is,70%of the maximum water‐holding capacity(WHC)for the first 40 ***,half of the columns were maintained under optimum or drought conditions(30%of maximum WHC)for another 20 ***:Under optimum conditions,*** showed a significantly higher photosynthetic rate,stomatal conductance,and transpiration rate than *** decreased the photosynthetic rate,stomatal conductance and transpiration rate only in *** net photosynthetic rate,stomatal conductance,and leaf transpiration of *** did not differ significantly under optimum and drought *** showed an increase in its water use efficiencies under drought to a greater extent than ***:Our results demonstrate that *** is more sensitive to drought than *** decrease in the intercellular CO_(2) concentration and the increase in stomatal limitation with drought in *** and *** suggest that stomatal limitation plays the dominant role in photosynthesis of the studied African C_(4) grasses.

Male reproductive suppression： not a social affair

In the animal kingdom there are countless strategies via which males optimize their reproductivesuccess when faced with male-male competition. These male strategies typically fall into two maincategories： pre- and post-copulatory competition. Within these 2 categories, a set of behaviors,referred to as reproductive suppression, is known to cause inhibition of reproductive physiologyand/or reproductive behavior in an otherwise fertile individual. What becomes evident when con-sidering examples of reproductive suppression is that these strategies conventionally encompassreproductive interference strategies that occur between members of a hierarchical social ***, mechanisms aimed at impairing a competitor＇s reproductive output are also present innon-social animals. Yet, current thinking emphasizes the importance of sociality as the primarydriving force of reproductive suppression. Therefore, the question arises as to whether there is anactual difference between reproductive suppression strategies in social animals and equivalentpre-copulatory competition strategies in non-social animals. In this perspective paper we explore abroad taxonomic range of species whose individuals do not repeatedly interact with the same indi-viduals in networks and yet, depress the fitness of rivals. Examples like alteration of male repro-ductive physiology, female mimicry, rival spermatophore destruction, and cementing the rival＇sgenital region in non-social animals, highlight that male pre-copulatory reproductive suppressionand male pre-copulatory competition overlap. Finally, we highlight that a distinction between malereproductive interference in animals with and without a social hierarchy might obscure importantsimilarities and does not help to elucidate why different proximate mechanisms evolved. We there-fore emphasize that male reproductive suppression need not be restricted to social animals.

Super-light baryo-photons, weak gravity conjecture and exotic instantons in neutron-antineutron transitions

In companion papers(A. Addazi, Nuovo Cim. C, 38(1): 21(2015); A. Addazi, z. Berezhiani, and Y. Kamyshkov, ar Xiv:1607.00348), we have discussed current bounds on a new super-light baryo-photon, associated with a U(1)B-L gauge, from current neutron-antineutron data, which are competitive with E¨otv¨os-type ***, we discuss the implications of possible baryo-photon detection in string theory and quantum gravity. The discovery of a very light gauge boson should imply violation of the weak gravity conjecture, carrying deep consequences for our understanding of holography, quantum gravity and black holes. We also show how the detection of a baryophoton would exclude the generation of all B-L violating operators from exotic stringy instantons. We will argue against the common statement in the literature that neutron-antineutron data may indirectly test at least the 300-1000 Te V scale. Searches for baryo-photons can provide indirect information on the Planck(or string) scale(quantum black holes, holography and non-perturbative stringy effects). This strongly motivates new neutron-antineutron experiments with adjustable magnetic fields dedicated to the detection of super-light baryo-photons.

Decellularized extracellular matrix particle-based biomaterials for cartilage repair applications

Cartilage Decellularized ExtraCellular Matrix(dECM)materials have shown promising cartilage regenera-tion capacity due to their chondrogenic ***,the limited retention of ECM components and the reduced integrity of functional ECM molecules during traditional decellularization processes im-pair the biomimicry of these *** current study aims to fabricate biomimetic materials con-taining decellularized cartilage particles that have an intact molecular structure and native composition as biomaterial inks and hydrogels for cartilage *** this,we established a novel two-fraction de-cellularization strategy for the preparation of reconstituted dECM(rdECM)particles by mixing the two-fraction components,as well as a one-fraction decellularization strategy for the preparation of biomimetic dECM(bdECM)*** acid-tyramine(THA)hydrogels containing rdECM or bdECM particles were produced and characterized via rheological test,swelling and stability evaluation,and compression *** results showed that our novel decellularization strategies preserved intact proteoglycans and collagen at a higher retention rate with adequate DNA removal compared to traditional methods of *** addition of rdECM or bdECM particles significantly increased the shear moduli of the THA bioinks while preserving their shear-thinning *** particle-embedded THA hydrogels also achieved long-term stability with a swelling ratio of 70%and high retention of glycosaminoglycans and collagen after long-term incubation,while rdECM particle-embedded THA hydrogels showed unsat-isfactory stability as self-standing *** to pure THA hydrogels,the addition of bdECM particles significantly enhanced the compression *** summary,our decellularization methods are successful in the retention of functional and intact cartilage components with high *** rdECM and bdECM particles can be supplemented in THA bioinks for biomimet
