Synthesis and Characterization of Iron-Rich Glass Ceramic Materials：A Model for Steel Industry Waste Reuse

Wastes deriving from steel industry, containing large amounts of iron oxides and heavy metals, when collected in landfills are subjected to atmospheric agents, with consequent release of toxic substances in the soil and groundwater. The reuse of these wastes as raw materials for the production of advanced materials is a viable way both to overcome the environmental impact and to reduce the disposal costs,proposing new technologically advanced materials. This work aims to simulate these interesting glassceramics by using glass cullet coming from recycled municipal waste and high amount of iron（III） oxide（from 25 wt% to 50 wt%）, the prevalent component of steel waste. The oxide was mixed with glass cullet and vitrified. The samples composition and the microstructure were investigated by scanning electron microscopy（SEM）, and X-ray diffraction（XRD） was used to evaluate the nature of the crystalline *** chemical stability of the materials, in terms of ionic release into saline solution, was assessed. The electrical behavior of the samples was also investigated by varying the iron ions content and controlling the crystallization process. It is possible to obtain chemically stable materials with a nearly semiconducting behavior.

This paper describes scientific research conducted to highlight the potential of an integrated GPR-UAV system in engineering-geological *** analysis focused on the stability of a natural scree slope in the Germanasca Valley,in the western Italian *** a consequence of its steep shape and the related geological hazard,the study used different remote sensed methodologies such as UAV photogrammetry and geophysics survey by a GPR-drone integrated ***,conventional in-situ surveys led to the collection of geological and geomorphological *** use of the UAV-mounted GPR allowed us to investigate the bedrock depth under the detrital slope deposit,using a non-invasive technique able to conduct surveys on inaccessible areas prone to hazardous conditions for *** collected evidence and the results of the analysis highlighted the stability of the slope with Factors of Safety,verified in static conditions(i.e.,natural static condition and static condition with snow cover),slightly above the stability limit value of *** the contrary,the dynamic loading conditions(i.e.,seismic action applied)showed a Factor of Safety below the stability limit *** UAV-mounted GPR represented an essential contribution to the surveys allowing the definition of the interface debris deposit-bedrock,which are useful to design the slope model and to evaluate the scree slope stability in different conditions.

BACKGROUND Percutaneous bilateral biliary stenting is an established method for the management of unresectable malignant hilar biliary *** To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a novel uncovered biliary stent, specifically designed for hilar *** This, single-center, retrospective study included 18 patients(mean age 71 ± 11 years;61.1% male) undergoing percutaneous transhepatic Moving cell stent(MCS) placement for hilar reconstruction using the stent-in-stent technique for malignant biliary strictures, between November 2020 and July 2021. The Patients were diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma(12/18;66.6%), gallbladder cancer(5/18;27.7%), and colorectal liver metastasis(1/18;5.5%). Primary endpoints were technical(appropriate stent placement) and clinical(relief from jaundice) success. Secondary endpoints included stent patency, overall survival, complication rates and stent-related *** The technical and clinical success rates were 100%(18/18 cases). According to Kaplan-Meier analysis, the estimated overall patient survival was 80.5% and 60.4% at 6 and 12 mo respectively, while stent patency was 90.9% and 68.2% at 6 mo and 12 mo respectively. The mean stent patency was 172.53 ± 56.20 d and median stent patency was 165 d(range 83-315). Laboratory tests for cholestasis significantly improved after procedure: mean total bilirubin decreased from 15.2 ± 6.0 mg/d L to 1.3 ± 0.4 mg/d L(P < 0.001);mean γGT decreased from 1389 ± 832 U/L to 114.6 ± 53.5 U/L(P < 0.001). One periprocedural complication was reported. Stent-related complications were observed in 5 patients(27.7%), including 1 occlusion(5.5%) and 1 stent migration(5.5 %).CONCLUSION Percutaneous hilar bifurcation biliary stenting with the MCS resulted in excellent clinical and technical success rates, with acceptable complication rates. Further studies are needed to confirm these initial positive results.

Patterns of treatment with PDE5 inhibitors in the clinical practice in Italy： longitudinal data from the Erectile Dysfunction Observational Study

The Erectile Dysfunction Observational Study （EDOS） is a 6-months observational prospective multicentric study enrolling men with erectile dysfunction （ED） who asked, to be started on a treatment or to change a previous treatment. Aims of the study were to analyse the pattern of treatment and compare the efficacy of treatments used. Patients were enrolled during a normal hospital visit and were prescribed a treatment for ED. They were asked at baseline and after 3 and 6 months, to answer a set of questions from the International Index of Erectile Function, Erectile Dysfunction Inventory of Treatment Satisfaction （EDITS） and Short Form of the Psychological and Interpersonal Relationships Scale questionnaires （SF-PAIRS）. Clinicians were free to prescribe any therapy for ED available in the market, and to change therapy at any time during the study. Out of 1 338 patients, available for analysis at 6 months, 624 （47%） changed their treatment during the study and 714 （53%） continued with the drug prescribed at baseline. Patients assuming tadalafil had a significantly higher probability of maintaining the same treatment compared to sildenafil or vardenafil. There was no clinically significant difference in terms of efficacy, patient satisfaction, self-confidence and spontaneity between the different inhibitors of PDE5. The ‘time concerns＇ domain score of SF-PAIRS, was statistically better in patients assuming tadalafil. In conclusion sildenafil, vardenafil and tadalafil show similar efficacy in the clinical practice. However, patients receiving tadalafil display a lower risk to discontinue or change the treatment.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC) is one of the most lethal malignancies with a five-year survival rate of approximately 5%. Several target agents have been tested in PDAC, but almost all have failed to demonstrate efficacy in late phase clinical trials, despite the better understanding of PDAC molecular biology generated by large cancer sequencing initiatives in the past decade. Eroltinib(a small-molecule tyrosine-kinase inhibitor of epidermal growth factor receptor) plus gemcitabine is the only schedule with a biological agent approved for advanced pancreatic cancer, but it has resulted in a very modest survival benefit in unselected patients. In our work, we report a summary of the main clinical trials(closed and ongoing) that refer to biological therapy evaluation in pancreatic cancer treatment.

Renal cell carcinoma （RCC） is the most common renal tumor, accounting for 2%-3% of all malignancies. Though RCC is known to spread hematogenously, isolated RCC metastasis to the stomach is a rare event. In this article, we describe the clinical course of a patient who developed a pancreatic recurrence of RCC and 1 year later a gastric recurrence of RCC treated 10 years ago with a resection and interleukin-2 （IL-2）. Accumulating evidence indicates that metastatic involvement of the pancreas and stomach should be suspected in any patient with a history of RCC who presents with gastrointestinal symptoms even 10 years after RCC resection and immunotherapy.

AIM To investigate the type and timing of evolution of incidentally found branch-duct intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms(bd-IPMN) of the pancreas addressed to magnetic resonance imaging cholangiopancreatography(MRCP) *** We retrospectively evaluated 72 patients who underwent, over the period 2006-2016, a total of 318 MRCPs(mean 4.4) to follow-up incidental, presumed bdIPMN without signs of malignancy, found or confirmedat a baseline MRCP examination. Median follow-up time was 48.5 mo(range 13-95 mo). MRCPs were acquired on 1.5T and/or 3.0T systems using 2D and/or 3D technique. Image analysis assessed the rates of occurrence over the follow-up of the following outcomes:(1) imaging evolution, defined as any change in cysts number and/or size and/or appearance; and(2) alert findings, defined as worrisome features and/or high risk stigmata(e.g., thick septa, parietal thickening, mural nodules and involvement of the main pancreatic duct). Time to outcomes was described with the Kaplan-Meir approach. Cox regression model was used to investigate clinical or initial MRCP findings predicting cysts *** We found a total of 343 cysts(per-patient mean 5.1) with average size of 8.5 mm(range 5-25 mm). Imaging evolution was observed in 32/72 patients(44.4%; 95%CI: 32-9-56.6), involving 47/343 cysts(13.7%). There was a main trend towards small( 0.01).CONCLUSION Changes in MRCP appearance of incidental bd-IPNM were frequent over the follow-up(44.4%), with relatively rare(8.3%) occurrence of non-malignant alert findings that prompted further diagnostic steps.
