Owing to the far-reaching environmental consequences of agriculture and food systems,such as their contribution to climate change,there is an urgent need to reduce their *** and national governments set sustainability targets and implement corresponding ***,critics of the globalized system claim that a territorial administrative scale is better suited to address sustainability ***,at the subnational level,local authorities rarely apply a systemic environmental assessment to enhance their action *** paper employs a territorial life cycle assessment methodology to improve local environmental agri-food *** objective is to identify significant direct and indirect environmental hotspots,their origins,and formulate effective mitigation *** methodology is applied to the administrative department of Finistere,a strategic agricultural region in North-Western *** environmental criteria including climate change,fossil resource scarcity,toxicity,and land use are *** findings reveal that the primary environmental hotspots of the studied local food system arise from indirect sources,such as livestock feed or diesel *** reduction and organic farming conversion emerge as the most environmentally efficient strategies,resulting in a 25%decrease in the climate change ***,the overall modeled impact reduction is insufficient following national objectives and remains limited for the land use *** results highlight the innovative application of life cycle assessment led at a local level,offering insights for the further advancement of systematic and prospective local agri-food ***,they provide guidance for local authorities to enhance the sustainability of planning strategies.

“Well-Track”: Fitbit Based Physical Activity and Sleep Hygiene Intervention for Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) and At-Risk Mental State (ARMS) Service Patients

Background: Compared to the general population, people who are at a high risk of or experience severe mental illness (SMI) such as psychosis, are more likely to have low levels of physical activity, high levels of sedentary behaviour, and sleep problems. Intervention: The Well-Track intervention comprises a wearable activity and sleep tracker (Fitbit);one session with mental health service staff providing physical activity and sleep hygiene advice;a brief motivational interview;completing a goal setting workbook;and one or two further engagement, feedback and discussion sessions. Participants: Twenty-four participants using an early intervention in psychosis (EIP) or at-risk mental state (ARMS) service completed an eight-week, three session intervention (14 males and 10 females), with an age range of 18 - 61, and average age of 27.75 years. Methods: An open-label patient cohort design with no control group. Pre-intervention, 4-week and 8-week intervention assessments using participant self-report measures: Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) (depression), Warwick–Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS), and Sleep Conditioning Index (SCI);and clinician measurement of body weight. Results: Mean scores showed a significant improvement in PHQ-9 from 9.29 (SD 5.89) to 5.58 (SD 3.68) at 4 weeks and to 5.83 (SD 4.40) at 8 weeks, with large effect sizes. For those who met a diagnosis of depression at baseline, at 4 week follow-up seven participants (26%) experienced remission and nine (33%) reliable improvement, and at 8 week follow-up four (21%) experienced remission and seven (37%) reliable improvement. WEMWBS scores significantly improved, from 44.04 (SD 9.44) to 48.54 (SD 8.71) at 4 weeks and to 48.67 (SD 8.76) at 8 weeks, with large effect sizes. Body weight did not change significantly, remaining unchanged at 4 weeks and reduced from a mean of 82.8 kg (baseline) to 80.15 kg at 8 weeks, a reduction of 2.65 kg. We propose a new signaling scheme for on-chip optical-electrical-optical artificial neural networks that utilizes orthogonal delay-division multiplexing and pilot-tone-based self-homodyne *** scheme offers a more efficient scaling of the optical power budget with increasing network *** simulations,based on220 nm silicon-on-insulator silicon photonics technology,suggest that the network can support 31×31 neurons,with 961 links and freely programmable weights,using a single 500 m W optical comb and a signal-to-noise ratio of 21.3 d B per ***,it features a low sensitivity to temperature fluctuations,ensuring that it can be operated outside of a laboratory *** demonstrate the network’s effectiveness in nonlinear equalization tasks by training it to equalize a time-interleaved analog-to-digital converter(ADC)architecture,achieving an effective number of bits over 4 over the entire 75 GHz ADC *** anticipate that this network architecture will enable broadband and low latency nonlinear signal processing in practical settings such as ultra-broadband data converters and real-time control systems.

The precision livestock farming(PLF)has the objective to maximize each animal's performance while reducing the environmental impact and maintaining the quality and safety of meat *** the PLF techniques,the personalised management of each individual animal based on sensors systems,represents a viable *** is worth noting that the implementation of an effective PLF approach can be still expensive,especially for small and medium-sized farms;for this reason,to guarantee the sustainability of a customized livestock management system and encourage its use,plug and play and cost-effective systems are *** this context,we present a novel low-cost method for identifying beef cattle and recognizing their basic activities by a single surveillance *** leveraging the current state-of-the-art methods for real-time object detection,(i.e.,YOLOv3)cattle's face areas,we propose a novel mechanism able to detect the ear tag as well as the water ingestion state when the cattle is close to the *** cow IDs are read by an Optical Character Recognition(OCR)algorithm for which,an ad hoc error correction algorithm is here presented to avoid numbers misreading and correctly match the IDs to only actually present *** to the detection of the tag position,the OCR algorithm can be applied only to a specific region of interest reducing the computational cost and the time *** times for the areas are outputted as cattle activity recognition *** results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method,showing a mAP@0.50 of 89%.

Traditional auto-scaling approaches are conceived as reactive automations,typically triggered when predefined thresholds are breached by resource consumption *** such rules at scale is cumbersome,especially when resources require non-negligible time to be *** paper introduces an architecture for predictive cloud operations,which enables orchestrators to apply time-series forecasting techniques to estimate the evolution of relevant metrics and take decisions based on the predicted state of the *** this way,they can anticipate load peaks and trigger appropriate scaling actions in advance,such that new resources are available when *** proposed architecture is implemented in OpenStack,extending the monitoring capabilities of Monasca by injecting short-term forecasts of standard *** use our architecture to implement predictive scaling policies leveraging on linear regression,autoregressive integrated moving average,feed-forward,and recurrent neural networks(RNN).Then,we evaluate their performance on a synthetic workload,comparing them to those of a traditional *** assess the ability of the different models to generalize to unseen patterns,we also evaluate them on traces from a real content delivery network(CDN)*** particular,the RNN model exhibites the best overall performance in terms of prediction error,observed client-side response latency,and forecasting *** implementation of our architecture is open-source.
