Sensory quality of meat from eight different types of cattle in relation with their biochemical characteristics

The present study compared eight breeds of cattle differing in gender （heifers, buls and steers） to determine associations between muscle characteristics and meat sensory qualities of theLongissimus thoracis muscle. Animal types differed in al the muscle characteristics and sensory qualities. Many correlations among muscle characteristics and among sensory qualities were consistent for most animal types. Isocitrate dehydrogenase （ICDH） activities alowed discrimination of muscles with respect to myosin heavy chain （MyHC）-I proportions for al animal types. Lactate dehydrogenase （LDH） and phos-phofructokinase （PFK） activities were positively correlated for most animal types. Overal liking was correlated with beef lfavour and abnormal lfavour in al animal types and with global tenderness for al animal types except for Charolais cross breed steers. For al animal types except for Angus×Friesian heifers, beef lfavour and abnormal lfavour were negatively correlated. Overal liking was not correlated with juiciness. PFK, ICDH and citrate synthase （CS） activities were strongly associated with tenderness, beef lfavour and overal liking when average values for al animal types were used. However, associations between muscle characteristics and sensory qualities within animal types were weak and inconsistent.

Neutrophils play a pivotal role in orchestrating the immune system response to biomaterials,the onset and resolution of chronic inflammation,and macrophage ***,the neutrophil response to biomaterials and the consequent impact on tissue engineering approaches is still scarcely ***,we report an in vitro culture model that comprehensively describes the most important neutrophil functions in the light of tissue *** isolated human primary neutrophils from peripheral blood and exposed them to a panel of hard,soft,naturally-and synthetically-derived *** overall trend showed increased neutrophil survival on naturally derived constructs,together with higher oxidative burst,decreased myeloperoxidase and neutrophil elastase and decreased cytokine secretion compared to neutrophils on synthetic *** culture model is a step to better understand the immune modulation elicited by *** studies are needed to correlate the neutrophil response to tissue healing and to elucidate the mechanism triggering the cell response and their consequences in determining inflammation onset and resolution.

Recent studies demonstrated that bladder cancers can be grouped into basal and luminal molecular subtypes that possess distinct biological and clinical *** bladder cancers express biomarkers characteristic of cancer stem cells and epithelial-tomesenchymal transition(EMT).Patients with basal cancers tend have more advanced stage and metastatic disease at *** preclinical models basal human orthotopic xenografts are also more metastatic than luminal xenografts are,and they metastasize via an EMT-dependent ***,preclinical and clinical data suggest that basal cancers are also more sensitive to neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC),such that most patients with basal cancers who are aggressively managed with NAC have excellent ***,luminal bladder cancers can also progress to become invasive and metastatic,but they appear to do so via mechanisms that are much less dependent on EMT and may involve help from stromal cells,particularly cancer-associated fibroblasts(CAFs).Although patients with luminal cancers do not appear to derive much clinical benefit from NAC,the luminal tumors that are infiltrated with stromal cells appear to be sensitive to anti-PDL1 antibodies and possibly other immune checkpoint ***,neoadjuvant and/or adjuvant immunotherapy may be the most effective approach in treating patients with advanced or metastatic infiltrated luminal bladder cancers.

Spontaneous exudative retinal detachment in a patient with sturge-weber syndrome after taking arginine, a supplement for erectile dysfunction

＜正＞Using observations from multiple spacecraft such as Helios, PVO, ACE, Ulysses and Voyager 2 which are distributed throughout the heliosphere, we identify and characterize interplanetary coronal mass ejections （ICMEs） between 0.3 and 30 AU. An abnormally low proton temperature is used as the primary identification signature of ICMEs. The occurrence rate of ICMEs approximately follows the solar activity cycle. Statistically, the average radial width of ICMEs increases with distance up to about 15 AU, with a radial expansion speed of the order of the Alfven speed. The expansion features of the average temperature, density, and magnetic field magnitude of ICMEs are also studied. We employ a one-dimensional MHD numerical code to model the propagation of ICMEs to try to understand the observations. The model results reproduce the basic expansion characteristics of ICMEs.

AIM: To determine whether cannabinoids suppressnoxious stimulu-evoked Fos protein-like immunoreac-tivity (FLI) through direct actions at the spinal ***: Rats were implanted with intrathecal(ith) catheters at least one week prior to evaluation inthe formalin test. Effects of the cannabinoid agonist,CP55,940 (80 μg ith) on formalin pain and FLI in ratspinal cord were compared with that of the prototypicnarcotic analgesic, morphine (20 μg ith). CP55, 940suppressed pain behavior and FLI induced by intra-plantar formalin. The reduction in noble metal content for efficient oxygen evolution catalysis is a crucial aspect towards the large scale commercialisation of polymer electrolyte membrane *** catalytic stability and activity are inversely related,long service lifetime still demands large amounts of low-abundant and expensive *** this manuscript we elaborate on the concept of maximizing the utilisation of iridium for the oxygen evolution *** combining different tin oxide based support materials with liquid atomic layer deposition of iridium oxide,new possibilities are opened up to grow thin layers of iridium oxide with tuneable noble metal ***-situ,time-and potential-resolved dissolution experiments reveal how the stability of the substrate and the catalyst layer thickness directly affect the activity and stability of deposited iridium *** on our results,we elaborate on strategies how to obtain stable and active catalysts with maximized iridium utilisation for the oxygen evolution reaction and demonstrate how the activity and durability can be tailored *** results highlight the potential of utilizing thin noble metal films with earth abundant *** for future catalytic applications in the energy sector.

A voltammetric sensor based on the electropolymerization of cobalt-poly(methionine)(Co-poly(Met)) on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was developed and applied for the determination of estriol by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) for the first time. The electrochemical properties of the Co-poly(Met)/GCE were analysed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used to characterize the polymers on the GCE surface. The deposition of the Co-poly(Met) film on the GCE surface enhanced the sensor electronic transfer. CV studies revealed that estriol exhibits an irreversible oxidation peak at t0.58 V for the Co-poly(Met)/GCE (vs. Ag/AgCl reference electrode) in 0.10 mol/L Britton-Robinson buffer solution (pH=7.0). Different voltammetric scan rates (10-200 mV/s) suggested that the estriol oxidation on the Co-poly(Met)/GCE surface is controlled by adsorption and diffusion processes. Based on the optimized DPV conditions, the linear responses for estriol quantification were from 0.596 μmol/L to 4.76 μmol/L (R2 =0.996) and from 5.66 μmol/L to 9.90 μmol/L (R2 =0.994) with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0340 μmol/L and a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 0.113 μmol/L. The DPV-Co-poly(Met)/GCE method provided good intra-day and inter-day repeatability with RSD values lower than 5%. Also, no interference of real sample matrices was observed on the estriol voltammetric response, making the DPV-Copoly( Met)/GCE highly selective for estriol. The accuracy test showed that the estriol recovery was in the ranges 96.7%-103% and 98.7%-102% for pharmaceutical tablets and human urine, respectively. The estriol quantification in pharmaceutical tablets performed by the Co-poly(Met)/GCE-assisted DPV method was comparable to the official analytical protocols.
