Development and validation of multicentre study on novel Artificial Intelligence-based Cardiovascular Risk Score(AICVD)

Objective Cardiovascular diseases(CVD)are one of the most prevalent diseases in India amounting for nearly 30%of total deaths.A dearth of research on CVD risk scores in Indian population,limited performance of conventional risk scores and inability to reproduce the initial accuracies in randomised clinical trials has led to this study on large-scale patient *** objective is to develop an Artificial Intelligence-based Risk Score(AICVD)to predict CVD event(eg,acute myocardial infarction/acute coronary syndrome)in the next 10 years and compare the model with the Framingham Heart Risk Score(FHRS)and *** Our study included 31599 participants aged 18–91 years from 2009 to 2018 in six Apollo Hospitals in India.A multistep risk factors selection process using Spearman correlation coefficient and propensity score matching yielded 21 risk factors.A deep learning hazards model was built on risk factors to predict event occurrence(classification)and time to event(hazards model)using multilayered neural ***,the model was validated with independent retrospective cohorts of participants from India and the Netherlands and compared with FHRS and *** The deep learning hazards model had a good performance(area under the curve(AUC)0.853).Validation and comparative results showed AUCs between 0.84 and 0.92 with better positive likelihood ratio(AICVD−6.16 to FHRS−2.24 and QRisk3−1.16)and accuracy(AICVD−80.15%to FHRS 59.71%and QRisk351.57%).In the Netherlands cohort,AICVD also outperformed the Framingham Heart Risk Model(AUC−0.737 vs 0.707).Conclusions This study concludes that the novel AI-based CVD Risk Score has a higher predictive performance for cardiac events than conventional risk scores in Indian population.

The European Commission report“Turning FAIR into reality”provides an index of 27 FAIR Action Plan *** index is used for a self-assessment on CESSDA,the Consortium of European Social Science Data *** is performing well on“Concepts for FAIR implementation”,“Skills for FAIR”,and“Investment in FAIR”;there is work in progress on“FAIR culture”,and work to start up on“FAIR ecosystem”and especially on“Incentives and metrics for FAIR data and services”.Next,an analysis on the FAIR components,reveals that CESSDA has accomplished the“F”,is working on the“A”-considering the sensitivity and security requirements of social data,just started on“I”,and that there is lack of clarity on what should be in“R”.On Findability,the CESSDA Data Catalogue is explained,showing the building blocks that need to be in place before one can produce a *** article ends with a forward look on CESSDA’s deployment on the FAIR principles.

Dietary supplementation of zinc oxide modulates intestinal functionality during the post-weaning period in clinically healthy piglets

Radiation therapy(RT)is a treatment option for head and neck cancer(HNC),but 2%of RT patients may experience damage to the jawbone,resulting in osteoradionecrosis(ORN).The ORN can manifest years after RT *** in the local microchemical bone quality prior to the clinical manifestation of ORN could play a key role in ORN *** bone quality can be analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),that is applied to examine the effects of cancer,chemotherapy,and RT on the quality of human man-dibular *** mandibular bone samples were harvested from dental implant beds of 23 individuals,i.e.,patients with surgically and radiotherapeutically treated HNC(RT-HNC,n=7),surgically and radiochemotherapeutically treated HNC(CH-RT-HNC,n=3),only surgically treated HNC(SRG-HNC,n=4),and healthy controls(n=9).Infrared spectra were acquired from two representative regions of interest in cortical mandibular *** parameters,i.e.,mineral-to-matrix ratio(MM),carbonate-to-matrix ratio(CM),carbonate-to-phosphate ratio(CP),collagen maturity(cross-linking),crystallinity,acid phosphate substitu-tion(APS),and advanced glycation end products(AGEs),were analyzed for each *** I region of the CH-RT-HNC group differed from the control group in cluster analysis(p=0.02).Apart from a minor variation trend in collagen maturity(p=0.07),there were no other signif-icant differences between the ***,the effect of radiochemotherapy on mandibular bone composition should be further *** future trials,this study design is potential when the effects of the cancer burden and different HNC treatment modalities on jawbone composition are studied,in order to reveal ORN pathogenesis.

Silicon nanocrystals(SiNCs)have great potential to become environmental friendly alternatives to heavy-metal containing nanocrystals for applications including medical imaging,lighting and *** exhibit excellent photostability,non-toxicity and abundant resources,but their often reported inefficient and spectrally limited light emission seriously impair their *** we demonstrate a new method that converts SiNCs into an efficient and robust multi-chromatic ***~15 keV electron-beam irradiation of oxide-capped SiNCs,we introduce several types of color centers into the nanocrystal’s oxide shell with efficient blue,green and red emission bands,together yielding warm-white photoluminescence,even for a single *** centers are not native to the original system and we relate them to known defects in *** in the silica host,however,here the centers are efficiently optically *** further optimization and up-scaling of this method,e-beam irradiated SiNCs can be of great interest as white phosphors for applications such as lEDs.

Assessing Social Vulnerability to Flood Hazards in the Dutch Province of Zeeland

The 2007 European Union Floods Directive encouraged member nations to pursue a more integrated view of flood risks and management strategies, taking into account social vulnerabilities of residents. To date, most flood-risk analyses conducted by the Dutch government have focused on physical risk. This study utilizes fine-scale data to construct a social vulnerability index for 147 districts of the Dutch province of Zeeland, located in the Southwestern Delta and the scene of widespread devastation following the 1953 North Sea Flood. Factor analysis of 25 indicators of social vulnerability selected from related research in Europe and the United States results in seven factors explaining roughly 66% of the total variance. These factors of social vulnerability in Zeeland are urban density,low-income households, recent population change, female gender, train access, and self-employed and service-sector employment. The index was constructed using the toploading variable in each of these factors, with weights determined by the variance explained by each *** range from a low of 0.20 in Schore, municipality of Kapelle, to the highest score of 0.64 in Oudelandse Hoeve of Terneuzen. The most vulnerable districts are located in South Zeeland, with eight of the 10 found in *** majority of less vulnerable districts are located in Zeeland’s central region.
