The examination of the effects of second generation lotra filcon B silicone hydrogel(SiH)lenses on the cornea when worn for three years of daily *** and Methods:55 healthy patients were divided into two groups:current hydrogel contact lens wearers refitted with lotrafilcon B lenses(Group 1;28 patients)and neophyte contact lens wearers(Group 2;27 patients).Each patient's subjective eye comfort was measured with a self-administered *** corneas were analyzed using contact specular microscope to measure corneal thickness and the endothelium before the SiH lenses werefitted after four weeks,one month,six months,one year,two years,and three years of lens ***:Subjective complaints of patients in Group 1 were reduced;however patients in Group 2 experienced discomfort during the first two to four weeks of *** Group 1,objective examinations identified a decrease in endothelial cell *** Group 2,the endothelial cell density increased slightly in the first two years but decreased after three *** results indicate that lotra filcon B slows down the deleterious effects of contact *** coe±cient of variation significantly decreased after six months in Group 1(0.47 vs 0.44;p?0:049),whereas,in Group 2,the hexagonal cells improved significantly after one month(27.78 vs 28.25;p=0.025).Conclusion:Based on the subjects involved and the period of time under examination,it can be concluded that high-Dk SiH lenses support the physiological metabolism and functions of the cornea by improving oxygen provision.

AIM:To compare the anterior and posterior corneal parameters before and after collagen cross-linking therapy for ***:Collagen cross-linking was performed in31 eyes of 31 keratoconus patients(mean age 30.6±8.9y).Prior to treatment and an average 7mo after therapy,Scheimpflug analysis was performed using Pentacam *** addition to corneal thickness assessments,corneal radius,elevation,and aberrometric measurements were performed both on anterior and posterior corneal *** obtained before and after surgery were statistically ***:In terms of horizontal and vertical corneal radius,and central corneal thickness no deviations were observed an average 7mo after *** higher order aberration showed no difference neither on anterior nor on posterior corneal *** follow-up period,no significant deviation was detected regarding elevation values obtained by measurement in mm units between the 3.0-8.0 ***:Corneal stabilization could be observed in terms of anterior and posterior corneal surfaces,elevation and higher order aberration values 7mo after collagen cross-linking therapy for keratoconus.

A field measurement campaign was carried out during the late winter and early spring of2015 in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. The size distribution(SD) and optical absorption of carbonaceous particulate matter(CPM) was measured online using a Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer(SMPS), a 7λ-aethalometer and an inhouse developed 4λ-Photoacoustic Spectrometer. Based on the SD data, the measurement period could be classified into days with and without new particle formation events(normal days and nucleation days),although particular nucleation-like events were observed on normal days as well. Three characteristic size modes were observed with CMDs of circa 15, 25 and 110 nm that corresponded to the nucleation, traffic and heating modes. Based on the temporal behavior of these modes both types of days were divided into distinctive daily periods(heating hours,traffic hours and nucleation hours). The optical absorption spectra(OAC and AAE) also displayed the same part of day behavior to that of SD. That way this paper is among the first to assess the optical response of urban nucleation events. Due to the simultaneous measurement of OAC by the 7λ-aethalometer and a 4λ-Photoacoustic Spectrometer, OAC was measured overall at 11 wavelengths. That way aethalometer correction factors(f and C)were determined at all aethalometer wavelengths using in situ reference photoacoustic measurements. Correction factors were found to have both wavelength and time of the day variation. In the case of f, no clear trend could be observed, however, Cref values increased both as a function of wavelength.

Comparative studies of trait evolution require accounting for the shared evolutionary history. This is done by includ- ing phylogenetic hypotheses into statistical analyses of species＇ traits, for which birds often serve as excellent models. The online publication of the most complete molecular phylogeny of extant bird species （***, BirdTree hereafter） now allows evolutionary biologists to rapidly obtain sets of equally plausible phylogenetic trees for any set of species to be incorporated as a phylogenetic hypothesis in comparative analyses. We discuss methods to use BirdTree tree sets for comparative studies, either by building a consensus tree that can be incorporated into standard comparative analyses, or by using tree sets to account for the ef- fect of phylogenetie uncertainty. Methods accounting for phylogenetic uncertainty should be preferred whenever possible because they should provide more reliable parameter estimates and realistic confidence intervals around them. Based on a real compara- tive dataset, we ran simulations to investigate the effect of variation in the size of the random tree sets downloaded from BirdTree on the variability of parameter estimates from a bivariate relationship between mass-specific productivity and body mass. Irre- spective of the method of analysis, using at least 1,000 trees allows obtaining parameter estimates with very small （〈 0.15%） co- efficients of variation. We argue that BirdTree, due to the ease of use and the major advantages over previous ＇traditional＇ meth- ods to obtain phylogenetic hypotheses of bird species （e.g. supertrees or manual coding of published phylogenies）, will become the standard reference in avian comparative studies for years to come.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), represents a group of chronic inflammatory disorders caused by dysregulated immune responses in genetically predisposed individuals. Genetic markers are associated with disease phenotype and long-term evolution, but their value in everyday clinical practice is limited at the moment. IBD has a clear immunological background and interleukins play key role in the process. Almost 130 original papers were revised including meta-analysis. It is clear these data are very important for understanding the base of the disease, especially in terms of clinical utility and validity, but text often do not available for the doctors use these in the clinical practice nowadays. We conducted a systematic review of the current literature on interleukin and interleukin receptor gene polymorphisms associated with IBD, performing an electronic search of PubMed Database from publications of the last 10 years, and used the following medical subject heading terms and/or text words: IBD, CD, UC, interleukins and polymorphisms.

The research of cancer-specific resonances started with Raymond R. Rife’s controversial results. The intensive debate began on the topic, and various interpretations of the results deepened after his death. This theme presently sparks desperate debates with extreme opinions, from the dangerous quackery to the brilliant discovery. A part of medical practices applies the resonance principle in various anticancer therapies and uses a variety of devices. Most medical experts refuse such “resonance therapies” due to their confidence in their quackery. I summarized some present problems and proposed a possible solution. My present article aims to discuss some aspects of the biological resonances, trying to clear some vague details of this subject and give a possible stochastic explanation of some resonances in cancer therapy. However, when considering the stochastic explanations of resonance frequencies, there are as many of these as there are enzymatic processes affecting the biological systems.

Bio-Electromagnetics without Fields: The Effect of the Vector Potential

Numerous considerations deal with specialties of bioelectromagnetic effects, including the force-free and field-free interactions. The fact that bioelectromagnetic phenomena consist of effects without mechanical forces and even without measurable fields looks impossible in the simple considerations. However, the stochastic fluctuations cause surprising results, with scientifically proven bioelectromagnetism in field-free conditions. In the first steps, we show the scalar and vector potentials’ specialties instead of electric and magnetic fields defined by the well-known Maxwellian equations. The vanishing of the fields is connected to the potentials’ stochastic fluctuations, the noises control the “zero-ground”. The result shows a possibility of a wave that has no attenuation during its transmission through the material. In this meaning, the result is similar to the consequences of the scalar-wave (SW) considerations. The structural changes follow a particular noise spectrum (called pink-noise or 1/f noise), which keeps the entropy constant in a broad range of scaling magnification.
