Spontaneous infection of Ascites Fluid at the national and University Hospital Hubert Koutoukou Maga in Cotonou: Prevalence and Associated Factors

Background: Spontaneous ascites fluid infection (SAFi) is an extremely serious and frequently encountered complication in cirrhotic patients. We aimed to determine the prevalence of SAFi and the factors associated with it in the largest hospital in Cotonou. Methods: This was a retrospective descriptive and analytical study conducted from January 2013 to July 2019, at the national and University Hospital Hubert Koutoukou Maga (CnHU-HKM) in Cotonou, Benin. All patients followed in the University Clinic of Hepato-Gastroenterology and diagnosed with SAFi were included. Results: Eighty-two patients were included, predominantly males (69.5%), with a mean age of 51.5 ± 14.5 years. Among them, 32 had SAFi, i.e., a prevalence of 39%. Of the 32 cases of SAFi, the culture of ascites fluid was positive in 6 cases (18.7%). The most frequent germ found in SAFi was Escherichia coli (5 patients, 83.3%). The factors associated with SAFi in this study were: abdominal pain (p = 0.004), increased bilirubinemia (p = 0.009), decreased prothrombin level 20 (p = 0.001). Conclusion: SAFi was common in cirrhotic patients in the department. Certain clinical and paraclinical factors were associated with it, as was the severity of cirrhosis. Early diagnosis and aetiological management of cirrhosis could reduce its frequency.

Despite its enormous benefits,mining is respon-sible for intense changes to vegetation and soil ***,after extraction,it is necessary to rehabilitate the mined areas,creating better conditions for the establishment of plant species which is *** study evaluated mineral and organic fertilization on the growth,and carbon and nitrogen(n)metabolism of two Crotalaria species[Cro-talaria spectabilis(exotic species)and Crotalaria maypu-rensis(native species from Carajás Mineral Province(CMP)]established on a waste pile from an iron mine in CMP.A control(without fertilizer application)and six fertilization mixtures were tested(i=nPK;ii=nPK+micronutrients;iii=nPK+micronutrients+organic compost;iv=PK;v=PK+micronutrients;vi=PK+micronutrients+organic compost).Fertilization contributed to increased growth of both species,and treatments with nPK and micronutrients had the best results(up to 257%***),while organic fertilization did not show *** Crotalaria had a greater number of nodules,higher nodule dry mass,chlorophyll a and b contents and showed free ammonium as the predominant n form,reflecting greater increments in biomass compared to native *** having lower growth,the use of this native species in the rehabilitation of mining areas should be considered,mainly because it has good development and meets current government legislation as an opportunity to restore local biodiversity.

The emergence of antiretroviral resistance mutations represents a major threat to the achievement of national and global goals for the elimination of HiV-1 infection. The global strategy in 2019 in Cte d'ivoire is a new national policy for the management of people living with HiV with the administration of dolutegravir (DTG)-based fixed-dose combination. The aim of our study was to evaluate HiV-1 resistance to antiretrovirals (ARVs) in infected adult subjects in Cte d’ivoire in the context of a systematic switch to a DTG-based combination. Between February 2022 and October 2023, a cross-sectional survey with random sampling was conducted in 06 services caring for people living with HiV. A total of 139 participants were included in the study. Adults with a viral load ≥ 1000 copies/mL were tested for HiV-1 ARV resistance mutations. Molecular analyses were performed using protocol of AnRS-MiE (national Agency for Research on AiDS and emerging infectious diseases). The interpretation is performed by HiVGRAD (https://***/cms/grade/). The frequencies of HiV-1 resistance to non-nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (nnRTis), nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (nRTis), integrase inhibitors (iinTs) and protease inhibitors (Pis) were 82%, 73%, 19% and 11% respectively. The main mutations observed in the different classes were K103n (45%), M184V (64%), E157Q (19%) and L10V/M46i/A71V/i54V (6%) respectively. This study reveals the emergence of resistance to DTG-based fixed-dose combinations, favored by high rates of resistance to nRTis and nnRTis. This finding underlines the need for enhanced viral load monitoring and HiV-1 genotyping tests to guide the choice of nRTis for combination therapy. in addition, monitoring for mutations to second-generation nRTis is essential, given the scale-up of DTG-based regimens currently underway in Cte d’ivoire.

The aim of this study of the spatial dispersion of tin, niobium and tantalum mineralization associated with the Mayo Darlé granitoids was to produce prospecting guides through predictive maps of Sn, nb and Ta in the region. it was based on a database (in appendix) obtained after analysis of rock samples (greisens and quartz veins) collected in the field, using a portable X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometer. Two approaches were used: 1) structural studies in the field using the directions of veins and fractures 2) the use of variographic maps, an essential element in geostatistics for determining directional anisotropies. A joint synthesis of the modelling results shows that tin, tantalum and niobium mineralization at Mayo Darlé is concentrated along strike intervals n315E to n320E, with mineralization also occurring along strike n35E for high-grade Sn, medium-grade Ta and low-grade nb. in short, mineral concentrations disperse progressively in space: positively from east to west for tantalum and niobium, and inversely for tin.

Depression and Suicidal Risk in HiV-infected Adults at Brazzaville University Hospital: Prevalence and Associated Factors

introduction: Highly active antiretroviral tritherapies have improved the quality of life of people living with HiV (PVViH) and extended their life expectancy. However, the nervous system is faced with a neurotropic virus that evolves chronically, sometimes creating neurological disorders directly or indirectly linked to stigmatization or therapeutic effects. Objective: to determine the prevalence of depression associated with suicidal risk (SR) and identify associated factors. Patients and method: This was a prospective descriptive and analytical study from January 1 to november 30, 2022, including all HiV-positive patients receiving or not receiving antiretroviral therapy. The study took place in the infectious diseases department of Brazzaville University Hospital. This department has an inpatient capacity of 36 beds, and an outpatient capacity of 25 patients per day, three times a week. This is the largest center for PVViH in Brazzaville. The Patient Heath Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9) was used to assess the degree of depression and suicidal risk. Therapeutic adherence was assessed using the Morisky questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 23 software. Qualitative variables were expressed as numbers and percentages, and quantitative variables as means and standard deviations. Statistical tests were used according to their applicability criteria. For all tests, the significance threshold was set at 0.05. Results: A total of 150 patients were consulted, constituting the sample size. The prevalence of depression and suicidal risk was 32%. These patients had an average age of 42.83 ± 10.24 years, were female (n = 101;67.3%), Christian (n = 97;64%), single (n = 68;45.3%). Stigmatization (n = 75;50%) was the reason for attempted suicide. HiV was perceived as treatable (n = 103;68.7%), unlucky (n = 62;41.3%). Patients were WHO stage 1 (n = 105;70%). RS was present in 47 cases (31.3%). Sailboat navigation control system based on spiking neural networks

in this paper,we presented the development of a navigation control system for a sailboat based on spiking neural networks(Snn).Our inspiration for this choice of network lies in their potential to achieve fast and low-energy computing on specialized *** train our system,we use the modulated spike time-dependent plasticity reinforcement learning rule and a simulation environment based on the BindsnET library and USVSim *** objective was to develop a spiking neural network-based control systems that can learn policies allowing sailboats to navigate between two points by following a straight line or performing tacking and gybing strategies,depending on the sailing scenario *** presented the mathematical definition of the problem,the operation scheme of the simulation environment,the spiking neural network controllers,and the control strategy *** a result,we obtained 425 Snn-based controllers that completed the proposed navigation task,indicating that the simulation environment and the implemented control strategy work ***,we compare the behavior of our best controller with other algorithms and present some possible strategies to improve its performance.
