Deep optics preconditioner for modulation-free pyramid wavefront sensing

The pyramid wavefront sensor(PWFs)can provide the sensitivity needed for demanding adaptive optics applications,such as imaging exoplanets using the future extremely large telescopes of over 30 m of diameter(D).However,its exquisite sensitivity has a limited linear range of operation,or dynamic range,although it can be extended through the use of beam modulation—despite sacrificing sensitivity and requiring additional optical *** by artificial intelligence techniques,this work proposes to train an optical layer—comprising a passive diffractive element placed at a conjugated Fourier plane of the pyramid prism—to boost the linear response of the pyramid sensor without the need for cumbersome *** develop an end-2-end simulation to train the diffractive element,which acts as an optical preconditioner to the traditional least-square modal phase estimation *** results with a large range of turbulence conditions show a noticeable improvement in the aberration estimation performance equivalent to over 3λ∕D of modulation when using the optically preconditioned deep PWFs(DPWFs).Experimental results validate the advantages of using the designed optical layer,where the DPWFs can pair the performance of a traditional PWFs with 2λ∕D of *** and adding an optical preconditioner to the PWFs is just the tip of the iceberg,since the proposed deep optics methodology can be used for the design of a completely new generation of wavefront sensors that can better fit the demands of sophisticated adaptive optics applications such as ground-to-space and underwater optical communications and imaging through scattering media.

At present,it is impossible to deny the existence of artificial intelligence in various areas of social life,understood as the simulation of expert human intelligence from computer processes that involve learning,reasoning,and self-correction,its benefits to the medical field,in particular,are innumerable,but their incorporation into health systems has been gradual for many *** to the above,this research analyzed artificial intelligence based on resilient leadership in the health sector,for which qualitative research was carried out with a documentary-bibliographic design with printed and electronic documentary sources with theoretical contributions fromÁvila,Mayer,and Quesada[1],Morgan[2],Villa[3],and Finol[4],among *** is highlighted that resilient leadership has become a strategic factor in all organizations,since times of uncertainty and changes lead institutions to properly manage the incorporation of technologies specifically AI,achieving in this way that the centers and professionals in the field of health assume the needs of the contexts and the innovations of the *** is concluded that resilient leadership will allow artificial intelligence in the health sector to generate higher levels of learning and adaptability to the transformations that are necessary,whose resistance would make its application difficult and in the long run it will leave behind professionals who refuse to assume the contributions of these innovative techniques in medical practice.

Non-ionic deep eutectic solvents(DEss)are non-ionic designer solvents with various applications in catalysis,extraction,carbon capture,and ***,discovering new DEs candidates is challenging due to a lack of efficient tools that accurately predict DEs *** search for DEs relies heavily on intuition or trial-and-error processes,leading to low success rates or missed *** that hydrogen bonds(HBs)play a central role in DEs formation,we aim to identify HB features that distinguish DEs from non-DEs systems and use them to develop machine learning(ML)models to discover new DEs *** first analyze the HB properties of 38 known DEs and 111 known non-DEs systems using their molecular dynamics(MD)simulation *** analysis reveals that DEs systems have two unique features compared to non-DEs systems:The DEss have①more imbalance between the numbers of the two intra-component HBs and②more and stronger inter-component *** on these results,we develop 30 ML models using ten algorithms and three types of HB-based *** model performance is first benchmarked using the average and minimal receiver operating characteristic(ROC)-area under the curve(AUC)*** also analyze the importance of individual features in the models,and the results are consistent with the simulation-based statistical ***,we validate the models using the experimental data of 34 *** extra trees forest model outperforms the other models in the validation,with an ROC-AUC of *** work illustrates the importance of HBs in DEs formation and shows the potential of ML in discovering new DEss.

Pre-transplant treatment of large polycystic kidney

AIM: To evaluate the indications, optimal timing andoutcomes of native nephrectomy and other techniques in pretransplant treatment of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease(PKD).METHODs: A literature review was conducted using the Pub Med and Epistemonikos databases. Keywords for pre-transplant surgical management of polycystic kidneys were: Transplant, treatment and PKD. Keywords for pre-treatment embolization of PKD were: Embolization, transplant and polycystic kidney disease. The inclusion criterions were all articles found using this search method. The exclusion criterions were articles found to include bias and not attending pre-transplant treatment options. Fifteen articles were included in our final analysis. Ten articles were found regarding embolization of PKD of which three reviews were selected for final analysis. The reviews were divided into pre transplant and intra transplant treatment for the surgical treatment of PKD. All articles meeting inclusion criteria were thoroughly analyzed by two independent reviewers. A third independent reviewer was consulted if the reviewers did not agree upon the inclusion or exclusion of a specific article. No statistical analysis was ***: studies vary regarding the technique used(open or laparoscopic), laterality(single or bilateral) and temporality of nephrectomy with respect to renal transplant(pre-transplant or simultaneous to transplant). several groups argue in favor of simultaneous nephrectomy and kidney transplant since it avoids the deleterious effects of being anefric. Long-term results and patient satisfaction are acceptable. However, it is associated with increased operative time, transfusion rate, morbidity and length of hospital stay. Alternative techniques for forecasting mineral commodity prices

Forecasting mineral commodity(MC) prices has been an important and difficult task traditionally addressed by econometric, stochastic-Gaussian and time series techniques. None of these techniques has proved suitable to represent the dynamic behavior and time related nature of MC markets. Chaos theory(CT) and machine learning(ML) techniques are able to represent the temporal relationships of variables and their evolution has been used separately to better understand and represent MC markets. CT can determine a system's dynamics in the form of time delay and embedding dimension. However, this information has often been solely used to describe the system's behavior and not for *** to traditional techniques, ML has better performance for forecasting MC prices, due to its capacity for finding patterns governing the system's dynamics. However, the rational nature of economic problems increases concerns regarding the use of hidden patterns for forecasting. Therefore, it is uncertain if variables selected and hidden patterns found by ML can represent the economic *** their refined features for representing system dynamics, the separate use of either CT or ML does not provide the expected realistic accuracy. By itself, neither CT nor ML are able to identify the main variables affecting systems, recognize the relation and influence of variables though time, and discover hidden patterns governing systems evolution simultaneously. This paper discusses the necessity to adapt and combine CT and ML to obtain a more realistic representation of MC market behavior to forecast long-term price trends.

Quercetin prevents spinal motor neuron degeneration induced by chronic excitotoxic stimulus by a sirtuin 1-dependent mechanism

Background:Excitotoxicity is a mechanism of foremost importance in the selective motor neuron degeneration characteristic of motor neuron *** therapeutic strategies are an unmet need for these ***,such as quercetin and resveratrol,are plant-derived compounds that activate sirtuins(sIRTs)and have shown promising results in some models of neuronal death,although their effects have been scarcely tested in models of motor neuron ***:In this work we investigated the effects of quercetin and resveratrol in an in vivo model of excitotoxic motor neuron death induced by the chronic infusion ofα-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid(AMPA)into the rat spinal cord *** and resveratrol were co-infused with AMPA and motor behavior and muscle strength were assessed daily for up to ten ***,animals were fixed and lumbar spinal cord tissue was analyzed by histological and immunocytological ***:We found that the chronic infusion of AMPA[1 mM]caused a progressive motor neuron degeneration,accompanied by astrogliosis and microgliosis,and motor deficits and paralysis of the rear *** infusion ameliorated AMPA-induced paralysis,rescued motor neurons,and prevented both astrogliosis and microgliosis,and these protective effects were prevented by EX527,a very selective sIRT1 *** contrast,neither resveratrol nor EX527 alone improved motor behavior deficits or reduced motor neuron degeneration,albeit both reduced ***:These results suggest that quercetin exerts its beneficial effects through a sIRT1-mediated mechanism,and thus sIRT1 plays an important role in excitotoxic neurodegeneration and therefore its pharmacological modulation might provide opportunities for therapy in motor neuron disorders.

Loss of canonical Wnt signaling is involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease

Alzheimer＇s disease（AD） is the most common form of dementia in the older population, however, the precise cause of the disease is unknown. The neuropathology is characterized by the presence of aggregates formed by amyloid-β（Aβ） peptide and phosphorylated tau; which is accompanied by progressive impairment of memory. Diverse signaling pathways are linked to AD, and among these the Wnt signaling pathway is becoming increasingly relevant, since it plays essential roles in the adult brain. Initially, Wnt signaling activation was proposed as a neuroprotective mechanism against Aβ toxicity. Later, it was reported that it participates in tau phosphorylation and processes of learning and memory. Interestingly, in the last years we demonstrated that Wnt signaling is fundamental in amyloid precursor protein（APP） processing and that Wnt dysfunction results in Aβ production and aggregation in vitro. Recent in vivo studies reported that loss of canonical Wnt signaling exacerbates amyloid deposition in a transgenic（Tg） mouse model of AD. Finally, we showed that inhibition of Wnt signaling in a Tg mouse previously at the appearance of AD signs, resulted in memory loss, tau phosphorylation and Aβ formation and aggregation; indicating that Wnt dysfunction accelerated the onset of AD. More importantly, Wnt signaling loss promoted cognitive impairment, tau phosphorylation and Aβ1–42 production in the hippocampus of wild-type（WT） mice, contributing to the development of an Alzheimer＇s-like neurophatology. Therefore, in this review we highlight the importance of Wnt/β-catenin signaling dysfunction in the onset of AD and propose that the loss of canonical Wnt signaling is a triggering factor of AD.

Cardiac resynchronization therapy(CRT)has emerged as an important intervention for patients with heart failure(HF)with reduced ejection fraction and delayed ventricular *** these patients,CRT has demonstrated to improve quality of life,promote reverse left ventricular(LV)remodeling,reduce HF hospitalizations,and extend ***,despite advancements in our understanding of CRT,a significant number of patients do not respond to this *** invasive and non-invasive parameters have been assessed to predict response to CRT,but the electrocardiogram(ECG)has remained as the prevailing screening method albeit with ***,an accurate,simple,and reproducible ECG marker or set of markers would dramatically overcome the current *** describe the clinical utility of an old ECG parameter that can estimate ventricular activation delay:the onset to intrinsicoid deflection(ID).Based on the concept of direct measurement of ventricular activation time(intrinsic deflection onset),time to ID onset measures on the surface ECG the time that the electrical activation time takes to reach the area subtended by the corresponding surface ECG *** on this principle,the time to ID on the lateral leads can estimate the delay activation to the lateral LV wall and can be used as a predictor for CRT response,particularly in patients with non-specific intraventricular conduction delay or in patients with left bundle branch block and QRss review is to present the current evidence and potential use of this ECG parameter to estimate LV activation and predict CRT response.
