The overall transmitted efficiency at 1550 nm for Nylon-Teflon/Teflon-Nylon （N-T/T-N） grating silicon- on-insulator （sOI） structure with defect in even and odd position was investigated in this paper. Different types of losses, such as absorption, reflection and diffraction, were considered to find out the overall transmitted efficiency. The absorption loss of both Nylon-Teflon （N-T） and Teflon-Nylon （T-N） structure is zero at the wavelength of 1550 nm. Reflectance of these structures was analyzed by using plane wave expansion （PWE） method. simulation result showed that reflectance as well as transmittance was varied linearly with respect to defect at odd and even positions. simulation is also done for the diffraction efficiency at 1550nm with respect to detuning from Bragg＇s angle, which was ranged from -0.4 rad to ＋ 0.4 rad. Finally, it was found that overall transmitted efficiency increased as even defect position varied from 2nd to 10th for both N-T/T-N grating sOI structure. similarly, the overall transmitted efficiency decreased as odd defect position changed from 3rd to l lth for both N-T/T-N grating sOI structure.

Biodiesel is derived from waste cooking oil (WCO) by transesterification. Methylester was prepared by mixing diesel and biodiesel oils as 20% by volume. Nano particles asTiO2, Al2O3 and CNTs were blended with biodiesel blend at different concentrations of 25,50, and 100 mg/l to enhance the physicochemical fuel characteristics to obtain clean and effi-cient combustion performance. An experimental setup was incorporated into a diesel engine toinvestigate the influence of these nano-materials on engine performance, exergy analysis, combustion characteristics and emissions using WCO biodiesel-diesel mixture. Enriching methylester mixture with 100 ppm titanium, alumina and CNTs (B20T100, B20A100 andB20C100) increased the thermal efficiency by 4%, 6% and 11.5%, respectively compared toB20. Biodiesel blending with nano additives B20T100, B20A100 and B20C100 decreasedthe emissions of CO (11%, 24% and 30%, respectively), HC (8%, 17% and 25%, respectively)and smoke (10%, 13% and 19%, respectively) compared to B20. However, the noticeable increase of NOx was estimated by 5%, 12% and 27% for B20T100, B20A100 and B20C100,respectively. Finally, the results showed the rise in peak cylinder pressure by 5%, 9% and 11% and increase in heat release rate by 4%, 8% and 13% for B20T100, B20A100 andB20C100, respectively. The fuel exergy of B20T100, B20A100 and B20C100 are lower thanbiodiesel blend B20 by 6.5%, 16% and 23% but the exergetic efficiency are increased by 7%,19% and 30% at full load about B20.

Extraction of biodiesel from waste cooking oil,jatropha,and corn oils is done by *** and biodiesel were blended at 20%volume ratio to make methyl *** doses of 25,50,and 100 mg/l,carbon nanotubes(CNTs)was mixed with biodiesel *** objective of the present research is to examine experimentally a diesel engine performance,combustion characteristics,exergy and emissions analyses with inclusion of nano additive to various methyl ester *** ester blend is enriched with CNTs as JB20C100,WB20C100 and CB20C100 where the improvements in thermal efficiency are raised about biodiesel mixture by 9%,13%and 15%,*** of 100 ppm of CNTs to biodiesel blends achieves the greatest reductions in CO(14%,22%and 30%),HC(16%,20%and 25%),and smoke emissions(15%,19%and 23%)for JB20C100,WB20C100 and CB20C100,*** comparing with B20,blending 100 ppm CNTs with JB20,CB20,and WB20 obtained the highest increases in cylinder pressure of 3%,5%,and 10%,as well as the highest increases in heat release of 4%,7%,and 11%,*** downside of CNTs addition achieves a rise in NOx emissions by 10%,17%,and 22%for JB20C100,WB20C100,and CB20C100,*** efficiency increases by 8%,19%,and 24%for B20T100,B20A100,and B20C100,*** index improvements achieve 1.5%,5%and 6.5%,for B20T100,B20A100,and B20C100,***20 with CNTs of 100 ppm is highly recommended for improving engine performance,combustion,and exergy characteristics with considerable emissions reduction.

The synonymous use of the general term ＂landslide＂, with a built-in reference to a sliding motion, for all varieties of mass-transport deposits （MTD）, which include slides, slumps, debrites, topples, creeps, debris avalanches etc. in subaerial, sublacustrine, sub- marine, and extraterrestrial environments has created a multitude of conceptual and nomen- clatural problems. In addition, concepts of triggers and Iong-runout mechanisms of mass movements are loosely applied without rigor. These problems have enormous implications for studies in process sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy, palaeogeography, petroleum geol- ogy, and engineering geology. Therefore, the objective of this critical review is to identify key problems and to provide conceptual clarity and possible solutions. specific issues are the fol- lowing：（1） According to ＂limit equilibrium analyses＂ in soil mechanics, sediment failure with a sliding motion is initiated over a shear surface when the factor of safety for slope stability （F） is less than 1. However, the term landslide is not meaningful for debris flows with a flowing mo- tion. （2） sliding motion can be measured in oriented core and outcrop, but such measurement is not practical on seismic profiles or radar images. （3） Although 79 MTD types exist in the geological and engineering literature, only slides, slumps, and debrites are viable depositional facies for interpreting ancient stratigraphic records. （4） The use of the term landslide for high- velocity debris avalanches is inappropriate because velocities of mass-transport processes cannot be determined in the rock record. （5） Of the 21 potential triggering mechanisms of sediment failures, frequent short-term events that last for only a few minutes to several hours or days （e.g., earthquakes, meteorite impacts, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, etc.） are more relevant in controlling deposition of deep-water sands than sporadic long-term events that last for thousands to millions of years （e.g.,

Objective: To find out the type of bacteria colonising the tracheostomy tube and to determine the antibiotic sensitivity pattern and resistance in patients who have had tracheostomy in intensive care unit (ICU) set up and to initiate proper empirical treatment in such patients. Methods: The study was a retrospective review of patients who underwent tracheostomy at Ministry of Health, sur Hospital, Oman January 2005 and December 2015. The Hospital has 4 bedded pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and 10 bedded adult ICU which is headed by consultant anaesthetists, consultant physicians, ICU trained nurses and respiratory therapists. All patients who required mechanical ventilation and were therefore subject to an orotracheal intubation and those who underwent a conventional tracheostomy were considered for inclusion. Patients who had been intubated in other hospitals or ICUs, other airways infection issues were excluded from this study. Data’s were collected from computer based hospital management system, operation theatre and registers in Medical records department and entered in a preformed questionnaire before thorough analysis. The specimens for swab was obtained from the cut tracheostomy tube tips and the samples were sent to microbiology laboratory for isolation of the organism and obtain an antibiogram to know the susceptibility and resistance to antibiotics. Data were analyzed by statistical Package for social sciences (sPss, version 16, Chicago, Inc) and the values are reported as number (%). The commonest isolated organism wasPseudomonas followed byAcinetobacter. Results: During the ten year retrospective study, there were 108 patients included in our study with 56 males and 51 females. Fourteen different microorganisms were isolated during our study which includedPseudomonas aeruginosa (n= 39),Acinetobacter baumanii (n= 28),Klebsiella (n= 10) and coagulase negative staphylococcus (n= 6).
