The development of some computational algorithms based on cellular automaton was described to simulate the structures formed during the solidification of steel *** algorithms described take results from the steel thermal behavior and heat removal previously calculated using a simulator developed by present authors in a previous *** time is used for displaying the steel transition from liquid to mushy and *** it is also used to command computational subroutines that reproduce nucleation and grain *** routines are logically programmed using the programming language C＋＋ and are based on a simultaneous solution of numerical methods （stochastic and deterministic） to create a graphical representation of different grain structures *** grain structure obtained is displayed on the computer screen using a graphical user interface （GUI）.The chaos theory and random generation numbers are included in the algorithms to simulate the heterogeneity of grain sizes and morphologies.

The use of biopsy plugs to sample fish muscle tissue for mercury analyses is a viable alternative to lethal sampling; however, the practice has yet to be widely implemented in routine monitoring due to concerns about variability of mercury concentrations in fish muscle tissues. Here we examine distribution of mercury in fillets of four fish species(Walleye, Northern Pike, smallmouth Bass and Lake Trout), suitability of left/right side of fillet for biopsy sampling, and appropriateness of re-using a biopsy punch. The results showed that average mercury concentrations in left and right fillets of fish are *** concentrations in biopsy plug samples, taken from the anterior dorsal area of the fish fillet, were statistically equivalent to the mercury concentrations in homogenized fillets. There was no discernible cross contamination between samples when a biopsy punch was reused after washing in hot soapy water, and as such, biopsy punches can be recycled during sampling to reduce the sampling cost. If a tissue mass collected from a specific site on the fillet is insufficient, then we suggest sampling corresponding locations on the other fillet rather than sampling two adjacent sites on one fillet to obtain more tissue. The results presented here can improve the accuracy of fillet biopsy plug sampling,minimize fish mortality for mercury monitoring, and reduce labor and material costs in monitoring programs.

Tropical mountain ranges shape the structure of tree communities and promote highly diverse natural ***“Bosque Protector Chong on-Colonche”(BPCC),an 86,000-ha mountain formation situated on the coast of Ecuador,is biogeographically important for the region by connecting floristic elements of the wet Choco and the dry Tumbesian *** understanding of the factors that model tree and palm diversity and distribution in this mountain range are *** measured and identified all trees and palms(DBH≥10 cm)in 289 plots of0.2 ha,distributed throughout *** used generalized linear models to explain the relationship between forest diversity and structure and climatic variables(temperature,rain,aridity),and *** then used cluster and non-metric multidimensional scale(NMDs)analyses to search for distinct forest communities within the *** partition(varpart)was used to determine which predictor variables best explained these distinct forest communities.A species indicator analysis identified the species most likely to define these distinct forest ***,we carried out a niche modeling approach to identify the potential distribution of these forest communities within *** total,we identified 220 tree and palm species in our *** average number of species per plot was 17.8±5.8,ranging from 3 to 40 *** methods sorted the 289study plots into six different forest communities,three communities in the dry forest and three in the semi-humid Garúa *** and temperature,but not altitude or aridity,explained floristic *** results emphasize the high but little cataloged diversity in the lowland mountain rainforests of coastal Ecuador.

The aim of this pilot study conducted by the consortium for capacity building was to develop a prototype concept and methodology for the classification and visualization of the geographic impacts of El Nio on annual climates and seasonality. Our study is based on the Kppen–Geiger climate classification scheme for a set of selected countries affected by strong El Nios in Latin America. By identifying and visualizing the annual and seasonal changes in regional, national, or subnational climate regimes that generally accompany an El Nio event,this research proposes an efficient way to detect and describe climate shifts and variability across time and space. such knowledge provides a support tool for risk analysis and can potentially enhance government efforts of climate risk management, including disaster risk reduction activities that prevent, mitigate, and improve coping responses to El Nio-related hydrometeorological *** of the conceptual approach and methodology to classifying and mapping El Nio's impacts are described and explained using the Central American and circumCaribbean region as a case study. The potential applications for disaster risk reduction as well as its limitations and future work are also discussed.

Erbium and ytterbium doped barium titanate nanopowders were prepared using the hydrothermal method. A barium titanate structure doped with rare earth ions manifested new characteristics and improved the field of application of optical devices such as trichromatic tubes, LCD displays, lamps, and infrared lasers. In this work, BaTiO3：Er3＋ and BaTiO3：Yb3＋ were prepared using barium chloride [BaCl2], titanium butoxide [C16H36O4Ti], erbium chloride [ErCl3] and ytterbium chloride [YbCl3] as precursors. Anhydrous methanol was employed as a solvent. Metallic potassium was used to promote solubility in the system and increase the pH to 13. This method yielded the formation of a predominantly cubic structure in both Er3＋ and Yb3＋ doped BaTiO3 powders. Characteristic bondings of BaTiO3 were observed with FT-IR spectroscopy. The predominantly cubic structure was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and micro-raman analyses. The particle size（～30 nm） was estimated using the scherrer equation and X-ray diffraction data. The results were presented and discussed.

The present work aims to compare the amorphous phase forming ability of ternary and quaternary Al based alloys （Al86Ni8Y6, Al86GNi6Y6Co2, Al86NigLa6 and Al86Ni8Y45La15） synthesized via mechanical alloying by varying the composition, i.e. fully or partially replacing rare earth （RE） and transition metal （TM） elements based on similar atomic radii and coordination number. X-ray diffraction and high resolution transmission electron microscopy study revealed that the amorphization process occurred through formation of various intermetallic phases and nanocrystalline FCC Al. Fully amorphous phase was obtained for the alloys not containing lanthanum, whereas the other alloys containing La showed partial amorphization with reappearance of intermetallic phases attributed to mechanical crystallization. Differential scanning calorimetry study confirmed better thermal stability with wider transformation temperature for the alloys without La.

Colorectal cancer(CRC) is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in the world and the fourth principal cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Currently, there is a lack of low cost and noninvasive screening tests for CRC, becoming a serious health problem. In this context, a potential biomarker for the early detection of CRC has recently gained attention. Circular RNAs(circ RNA), a re-discovered, abundant RNA specie, is a type of noncoding covalent closed RNAs formed from both exonic and intronic sequences. These circular molecules are widely expressed in cells, exceeding the abundance of the traditional linear m RNA transcript. They can regulate gene expression, acting as real sponges for mi RNAs and also regulate alternative splicing or act as transcriptional factors and inclusive encoding for proteins. However, little is known about circ RNA and its relationship with CRC. In this review, we focus on the biogenesis, function and role of these circ RNAs in relation to CRC, including their potential as a new biomarker.

Computational simulation is a very powerful tool to analyze industrial processes to reduce operating risks and improve profits from equipment. The present work describes the development of some computational algorithms based on the numerical method to create a simulator for the continuous casting process, which is the most popular method to produce steel products for metallurgical industries. The kinematics of industrial processing was computationally reproduced using subroutines logically programmed. The cast steel by each strand was calculated using an iterative method nested in the main loop. The process was repeated at each time step （？t） to calculate the casting time, simultaneously, the steel billets produced were counted and stored. The subroutines were used for creating a computational representation of a continuous casting plant （CCP） and displaying the simulation of the steel displacement through the CCP. These algorithms have been developed to create a simulator using the programming language C＋＋. Algorithms for computer animation of the continuous casting process were created using a graphical user interface （GUI）. Finally, the simulator functionality was shown and validated by comparing with the industrial information of the steel production of three casters.
