Application of QUAL2K for Water Quality Modeling of River Ghataprabha （India）

River Ghataprabha, during its course through belgaum district in Karnataka state （India）, receives untreated domestic waste from Gokak town and other neighboring villages situated on the bank of the river. The present study involves the application of water quality model QUAL2K to predict the water quality of this polluted segment of the river. The model was calibrated and validated for biochemical oxygen demand （bOD）, dissolved oxygen （DO） and total nitrogen （TN） in pre-monsoon season. Data for calibration and validation were obtained after the field and laboratory measurements. The performance of the model was evaluated using statistics based on standard errors （SE） and mean multiplicative errors （MME）. The model represented the field data quite well with some exceptions. In spite of some differences between the measured and simulated data sets at some points, the calibration and validation results are acceptable especially for the developing countries where the financial resources are often limited for frequent monitoring campaigns and higher accuracy data analysis.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI)is one of the important resources for identifying abnormalities in the human *** work proposes an effective Multi-Class Classiﬁcation(MCC)system using binary Robust Invariant Scalable Keypoints(bRISK)as texture descriptors for effective classiﬁ***ﬁrst,the potential Region Of Interests(ROIs)are detected using features from the acceler-ated segment test ***,non-maxima suppression is employed in scale space based on the information in the *** discriminating power of bRISK is examined using three machine learning classiﬁers such as k-Nearest Neighbour(kNN),Support Vector Machine(SVM)and Random Forest(RF).An MCC sys-tem is developed which classiﬁes the MRI images into normal,glioma,meningio-ma and pituitary.A total of 3264 MRI brain images are employed in this study to evaluate the proposed MCC *** show that the average accuracy of the proposed MCC-RF based system is 99.62%with a sensitivity of 99.16%and spe-ciﬁcity of 99.75%.The average accuracy of the MCC-kNN system is 93.65%and 97.59%by the MCC-SVM based system.

background:Weather variables affect dengue *** study aimed to identify a dengue weather correlation pattern in Kandy,Sri Lanka,compare the results with results of similar studies,and establish ways for better control and prevention of ***:We collected data on reported dengue cases in Kandy and mid-year population data from 2003 to 2012,and calculated weekly *** obtained daily weather data from two weather stations and converted it into weekly *** studied correlation patterns between dengue incidence and weather variables using the wavelet time series analysis,and then calculated cross-correlation coefficients to find magnitudes of ***:We found a positive correlation between dengue incidence and rainfall in millimeters,the number of rainy and wet days,the minimum temperature,and the night and daytime,as well as average,humidity,mostly with a five-to seven-week ***,we found correlations between dengue incidence and maximum and average temperatures,hours of sunshine,and wind,with longer lag *** incidences showed a negative correlation with wind ***:Our results showed that rainfall,temperature,humidity,hours of sunshine,and wind are correlated with local dengue *** have suggested ways to improve dengue management routines and to control it in these times of global *** also noticed that the results of dengue weather correlation studies can vary depending on the data analysis.

AIM:To determine the prevalence and associations of non-retinopathy ocular conditions among older Australian adults with ***:Multistage random-cluster sampling was used to select 3098 non-indigenous Australians aged 50 y or older(46.4%male)and 1738 indigenous Australians aged 40 y or older(41.1%male)from all levels of geographic remoteness in *** underwent a standardised questionnaire to ascertain diabetes history,and a clinical examination to identify eye *** determined the prevalence of uncorrected refractive error,visually significant cataract,cataract surgery,age-related macular degeneration,glaucoma,ocular hypertension,retinal vein occlusion and epiretinal membrane among those with and without self-reported ***:Participants with self-reported diabetes had a higher prevalence of cataract surgery than those without diabetes(28.8%vs 16.9%,OR 1.78,95%CI:1.35-2.34 among non-indigenous Australians,and 11.3%vs 5.2%,OR 1.62,95%CI:1.22-2.14 among indigenous Australians).Diabetic retinopathy(DR)increased the odds of cataract surgery among self-reported diabetic indigenous and nonindigenous Australians(OR 1.89,P=0.004 and OR 2.33,Pbetes for≥20 y and having vision-threatening DR increased the odds of cataract surgery among indigenous Australians with diabetes(OR 3.73,P=0.001 and 7.58,Pbetes epidemic,interventions to reduce the impact of diabetes-related blindness should include increased cataract surgery services.

broad-band and long-period magnetotelluric(MT)data were acquired along an east-west trending traverse of nearly 200 km across the Kachchh,Cambay rift basins,and Aravalli-Delhi fold belt(ADFb),western *** regional strike analysis of MT data indicated an approximate N59°E geoelectric strike direction under the traverse and it is in fair agreement with the predominant geological strike in the study *** decomposed transverse electric(TE)-and transverse magnetic(TM)-data modes were inverted using a nonlinear conjugate gradient algorithm to image the electrical lithospheric structure across the Cambay rift basin and its surrounding *** studies show a thick(~1-5 km)layer of conductive Tertiary-Mesozoic sediments beneath the Kachchh and Cambay rift *** resistive blocks indicate presence of basic/ultrabasic volcanic intrusives,depleted mantle lithosphere,and different Precambrian structural *** crustal conductor delineated within the ADFb indicates the presence of fluids within the fault zones,sulfide mineralization within polyphase metamorphic rocks,and/or Aravalli-Delhi sediments/*** observed conductive anomalies beneath the Cambay rift basin indicate the presence of basaltic underplating,volatile(CO2,H2 O)enriched melts and channelization of melt fractions/fluids into crustal depths that occurred due to plume-lithosphere *** variations in electrical resistivity observed across the profile indicate that the impact of Reunion plume on lithospheric structures of the Cambay rift basin is more dominant at western continental margin of India(WCMI)and thus support the hypothesis proposed by Campbell&Griffiths about the plume-lithosphere interactions.

Selective leaching and recovery of V as iron vanadate from industrially generated Mo-V residue

A commercial process was developed to treat a Ca-based Mo-V residue generated in Mo processing plant. Vanadium wasselectively leached using acetic acid and recovered as iron vanadate by hydro process. Process conditions for selective V leachingand iron vanadate precipitation were investigated. V recovery efficiency of 90.3% was achieved with a V content of 26.5% and an Fecontent of 29% in the iron vanadate cake suitable for ferrovanadium industry. The overall Mo recovery in the whole process was98.6%. The obtained leach residue containing 14.3% Mo with negligible impurities can be used as a feed material for the Moproduction process or ferromolybdenum industry. This simple and economical process generates two product streams from a singleoperation and has the potential to solve a long standing problem of handling such a mixed Mo？V residue.

AIM： To examine the genetic profile of primary uveal melanoma （UM） as compared to UM in immune ***： Dendritic cells （DC） loaded with lysates of UM cells of high metastatic potential were used to stimulate CTLs（CTLs）. When CTLs co-cultured with the UM cells, most UM cells could be eliminated. Survival UM cells grew slowly and were considered to be survival variants and examined by a microarray analysis. These differential genes were analyzed further with Venn Diagrams and functions related to immune escape. We additionally examined transcriptional changes of manually selected survival variants of UM cells and of clinical UM samples by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction （qRT-PCR）, and analyzed the correlation of these expressions and patients’ ***： Gene expression analyses revealed a marked up-regulation of SLAMF7 and CCL22 and a significant down-regulation of KRT10, FXYD3 and AbCC2. The expression of these genes in the relapsed UM was significantly greater than those in primary UM. UM patients with overexpression of these genes had a shorter survival period as compared with those of their ***： Gene expression, in particular of SLAMF7, CCL22, KRT10, FXYD3 and AbCC2, differed between primary UM cells and survival variants of UM cells.
