AIM： To study the secretory inhibitor of platelet microbicidal protein （SIPMP） phenotypes of faecal anaerobic isolates from patients with diarrhea.METHODS： Faecal isolates of anaerobic bacteria （b. fragilis, n = 42; b. longum, n = 70; A. israelii, n = 21; E. lentum, n = 12） from children with diarrhea were tested. SIPMP production was tested by inhibition of platelet microbicidal protein （PMP） bioactivity against b. subtilis and was expressed as percentage of inhibition of PMP bactericidal activity.RESULTS： Among anaerobic isolates 80% of b. longum strains, 85.7% of A. israeli/strains, 50% of E. lentum strains and 92.86% of b. fragilis strains were SIPMP-positive. The isolated anaerobic organisms demonstrated SIPMP production at a mean level of 13.8% ± 0.7%, 14.7% ± 1.8%, 3.9% ± 0.9% （P 〈 0.05） and 26.8% ± 7.5% （P 〈 0.05） for bifidobacteria, A. israelii, E. lentum and b. fragilis, respectively.CONCLUSION： Data from the present study may have significant implications in understanding the pathogenesis of microecological disorders in the intestine, as well as for future improvement in the prevention and therapy of anaerobe-associated infections.

The benue Trough basin (bTb) of Nigeria is geologically and geo-morphologically subdivided into upper,middle, and lower segments. The bTb is the subject of geological research due to its rich coal depositsthat have the potential for oil and gas. The purpose of the present study is to examine the origins,depositional environments, and thermal history of the selected coals and the processes that influencetheir quality. Coal samples from different open cast coal mines in the middle bTb were examined usingproximate and ultimate, x-ray diffraction (XRD), x-ray fluorescence (XRF), laser ablation induced coupledplasma (LA-ICPMS), and petrographical analyses. The coal samples contained mainly quartz, kaolinite,and organic carbon. The XRD spectra peaks revealed the triclinic and monoclinic structure of kaolin. TheSiO2/Al2O3 ratios confirmed the dominance of quartz and kaolinite. The Ni/Co versus V/Cr, Cu/Zn, and V/Mo values in the studied coals suggest oxic depositional environments, whereas the V/(Ni þ V) and V/(V þ Cr) values indicate oxic to suboxic conditions. The Ce/Ce* values are slightly below 1, which indicates a suboxic depositional environment. Maceral texture is indicative of transformations from subbituminous to high volatile C or b bituminous coal. The maceral components and mineral matter(10%) of the studied coals imply deposition in the planar margin mire, and a river system of planarmargin mire environments, respectively. The high gelification index (GI) and tissue preservation index(TPI) values indicate peat accumulation developed within a wet forest swamp. The ternary diagram ofthe maceral component suggests deposition in a wet moor environment with intermittent moderate tohigh flooding episodes. The studied coals are sub-hydrous vitrinite inferring hydrogen-poor and thermally immature characteristics. The low V and Ni contents, low H/C and high O/C, indicate Type IIIterrestrial organic matter with the potential to generate gaseous hydrocarbons. The investi

Metallic glasses(MGs)or amorphous alloys are an important engineering material that has a history of research of about 80–90 *** different fast cooling methods were developed for multi-component MGs between 1960s and 1980s,1990s witnessed a surge of research interest in the development of bulk metallic glasses(bGMs).Since then,one central theme of research in the metallic-glass community has been compositional design that aims to search for MGs with a better glass forming ability,a larger size and/or more interesting properties,which can hence meet the demands from more important *** this review article,we focus on the recent development of chemically complex MGs,such as high entropy MGs,with new tools that were not available or mature yet until recently,such as the state-of-the-art additive manufacturing technologies,high throughput materials design techniques and the methods for big data analyses(*** learning and artificial intelligence).We also discuss the recent use of MGs in a variety of novel and important applications,from personal healthcare,electric energy transfer to nuclear energy that plays a pivotal role in the battle against global warming.

Laparoscopic management of ventral hernia repair using intraperitoneal synthetic mesh: A 10-year retrospective observational study

Objective:Ventral hernia is an anterior abdominal wall hernia,with an incidence of 2%-13%.Laparoscopic ventral hernia repair is the preferred method worldwide with all the advantages of the laparoscopic technique proven to be an effective treatment *** study aims to assess the long-term outcomes of laparoscopic management of ventral hernia repair using intraperitoneal onlay mesh(IPOM)or intraperitoneal onlay mesh with defect closure(IPOM PLUS)technique with the usage of variety of synthetic meshes ***:A retrospective study of 821 patients of a single institution for a decade was *** outcomes such as pain,mesh infections,enterocutaneous fistula,bowel adhesions and recurrence were ***:There were 801 primary,12 incisional,and 8 recurrent hernia cases,including 532 females and 289 males with a mean age of 45.62±9.37 *** PLUS were underwent in 674(82.10%)***,dual,titanium,composite meshes were applied in 473(57.61%),208(25.33%),82(9.99%),and 58(7.06%)cases *** bleeding occurred in 3(0.37%)cases,seroma in 8(0.97%),wound infection in 4(0.49%),stitch abscess in 2(0.24%).Recurrence was found in 8(0.97%)cases,with 5 used polypropylene mesh and 3 used dual *** infections were discovered in 6(2.88%)cases used dual,and foreign body sensation in 4(0.85%)cases used ***(0.37%)patients had suture site hernia,and 3(0.37%)had chronic ***:IPOM or IPOM PLUS holds good in small or medium sized ventral *** safety and efficacy of intraperitoneal polypropylene mesh is comparable to that of other synthetic meshes.A mesh overlap of minimum 5 cm beyond defect edge is must to minimise hernia *** suture can be considered as alternative to tackers.

On the thermodynamics basis of regular solution sub-lattice model and soperelement model, kinetics basis of Cahn's transformation kinetics theory, and according to Scheil's additivity rule and eoperimental results obtained by thermal dilation method,a prediction model of transformations from hot-deformed austenite to ferrite, pearlite and bainite in low alloy steels, which could be applied to continuoas cooling process, is developed. The calculated transformed junctions of each phase based on laboratory controlled rolling and controlled cooling conditions in a low alloy steel are in reasonable agreement with the measured ones.

Interband cascade(IC)photovoltaic(PV)device structures,consisting of multiple discrete InAs/GaSb superlattice absorbers sandwiched between electron and hole barriers,were grown by molecular beam *** of the molecular beam epitaxy growth and material characterization of the structures are *** discrete absorber architecture enables certain advantages,such as high open-circuit voltage,high collection efficiency,high operating temperature,and smooth integration of cascade stages with different *** two-and three-stage ICPV devices presented in this article operate at room temperature with substantial open-circuit voltages at a cutoff wavelength of 5.3 lm(corresponding to a bandgap of 0.23 eV),the longest ever reported for room temperature PV *** device characteristics indicate a high level of current matching and demonstrate the advantages of the interband cascade approach in thermophotovoltaic cell design.

Weaning is a challenging stage of pig *** undergo environmental,social and dietary changes leading to weaning stress *** order to compensate for the detrimental effects of weaning stress,antibiotics and natural extracts are used as feed additives,sometimes without fully understanding the interactions between them or even with low concentrations of mycotoxins that are frequently present in *** aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of fosfomycin(FOS),Cynara scolymus extract(CSE),deoxynivalenol(DON) and their combined administration on intestinal health of weaned *** experiment was designed as a 2×2×2 factorial arrangement with 3 factors(FOS,CSE and DON treatments),2 levels each(presence and absence) and 3 *** piglets(n=24)were randomly divided in groups to receive the different treatments,namely DON administered in diet(50 μg/kg bW),FOS administered into the drinking water(30 mg/kg bW),CSE administered in diet(15 mg/kg bW) and all their *** 15 d,the animals were euthanized and gastrointestinal tract samples were immediately taken to evaluate gastrointestinal pH,Enterobacteriaceae to lactic acid bacteria(E:L) ratio,volatile fatty acid(VFA) concentrations,disaccharidase(lactase,sucrase and maltase)activity,histology(intestinal absorptive area [IAA] and goblet cells count) and mucus ability to adhere pathogenic Escherichia *** our results,FOS and CSE treatments,individually or combined,produced a lower E:L ratio,an enhanced production of butyrate,increased disaccharidase activity(particularly maltase),and a greater IAA and goblet cells count along with an increase in pathogenic bacteria adherence to intestinal *** did not show interactions with the other factors and its administration produced decreases on VFA,disaccharidase activity and goblet cells *** conclusion,weaning piglets receiving diets containing FOS,CSE or both exhibited evident beneficial intestinal effects compared

The spectroscopic parameters and decay channels of the axial-vector tetraquark Tho(in what follows,TAV)are explored using the quantum chromodynamics(QCD)sum rule *** mass and coupling of this state are calculated using two-point sum rules by taking into account various vacuum condensates,up to 10 *** prediction for the mass of this state m=(10215±250)MeV confirms that it is stable with respect to strong and electromagnetic decays and can dissociate to conventional mesons only via weak *** investigate the dominant semileptonic■and nonleptonic T AV b:s^-→v10 b:s^-M decays of T AV b:s^-.In these processes,Z-b:s^-is a scalar tetraquark[be][us^-]built of a colo-triplet diquark and an antidiquark,whereas M is one of the vector mesonsρ^-,K^*(892),D^*(2010)^-,and D^*s-.To caleulate the partial w idths of these decays,we use the QCD three-point sum rule approach and evaluate the weak transition form factors Gi(i=0,1,2,3),which govem these *** full widthΓfull=(12.9±2.1)×10^-8 MeV and the mean lifetimeτ=5.1+0.99-0.71 fs of the tetraquark TAV are computed us-ing the aforementioned weak *** obtained information about the parametersof TAY and Zh,is useful for experimental investigations of these double-heavy exotic mesons.

A simple and straightforward method for the determination of dolasetron mesylate(DM) in aqueous solution was developed based on the fluorescence quenching of 3-Mercaptopropionic acid(MPA) capped Cd S quantum dots(QDs).The structure,morphology,and optical properties of synthesized QDs were characterized by using UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy,fluorescence spectroscopy,transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and dynamic light scattering(DLS) *** the optimum conditions,the MPA-Cd S QDs fluorescence probe offered good sensitivity and selectivity for detecting *** probe provided a highly specific selectivity and a linear detection of DM in the range of 2–40 μg/m L with detection limit(LOD) 1.512 μg/m *** common excipients did not interfere in the proposed *** fluorescence quenching mechanism of Cd S QDs is also *** developed sensor was applied to the quantification of DM in urine and human serum sample with satisfactory results.
