Quantifying relations between altered hydrology and fish community responses for streams in Minnesota

background:Altered hydrology is a stressor on aquatic life,but quantitative relations between specific aspects of streamflow alteration and biological responses have not been developed on a statewide scale in *** sub-sets regression analysis was used to develop linear regression models that quantify relations among five categories of hydrologic metrics(i.e.,duration,frequency,magnitude,rate-of-change,and timing)computed from streamgage records and six categories of biological metrics(i.e.,composition,habitat,life history,reproductive,tolerance,trophic)computed from fish-community samples,as well as fish-based indices of biotic integrity(FIbI)scores and FIbI scores normalized to an impairment threshold of the corresponding stream class(FIbI_bCG4).Relations between hydrology and fish community responses were examined using three hydrologic datasets that represented periods of record,long-term changes,and short-term changes to flow regimes in streams of ***:Regression models demonstrated significant relations between hydrologic explanatory metrics and fish-based biological response metrics,and the five regression models with the strongest linear relations explained over 70%of the variability in the biological metric using three hydrologic metrics as explanatory ***-based biological metrics demonstrated the strongest linear relations to hydrologic *** most commonly used hydrologic metrics were related to bankfull flows and aspects of flow ***:Final regression models represent paired streamgage records and biological samples throughout the State of Minnesota and encompass differences in stream orders,hydrologic landscape units,and watershed *** methods can support evaluations of stream fish communities and facilitate targeted efforts to improve the health of fish *** also can be applied to locations outside of Minnesota with continuous streamgage data and fish-community sampl

The oridation resistance at 1100°C of a dirationally solidified Ni3Al base alloy IC6is substantially improved by the addition of yttriurn or yttrium and silicon. The stress rupture property under 1100°C/80MPa is increased by adding proper amounts of yttrium, howevef it decreases bg adding 0.3wt% silicon and 0. 1wt% yttrium at the same time, which may be attributed to the formation of a needle like phase rich in nickel and molybdenum.

First observation of microspherule from the infratrappean Gondwana sediments below Killari region of Deccan LIP,Maharashtra(India) and possible implications

A rare occurrence of a microspherule has been found in the infratrappean sediments,encountered below338 m thick Deccan volcanic cover in KLR-1 scientific borehole,drilled in the epicentral zone of the 1993 Killari earthquake(Maharashtra,India).Palynological studies of the sediments indicate their age as Early Permian(Asselian,298-295 Ma) for *** electron microscope studies reveal that the spherule from the infratrappeans,is having a similar composition to that of the Neoarchean amphibolite to granulite facies mid crustal *** spherule is non-spherical in nature,containing mostly FeO(10.70±0.20 wt.%),CaO(13.8±0.5 wt.%),Al203(7.78±0.30 wt.%),MgO(6.47±0.3 wt.%),Si02(47,46±0.50 wt.%),Ti02(2.47±0.3 wt.%).K20(1.89±0.20 wt.%).and Cl(0.33±0.05 wt.%).Since the Fe composition of the spherule is almost same as the basement rock(10.5 wt.%),and the chlorine content is also in the same range as the basement(0.04-0.24 wt.%),it would suggest possibility of an extraterrestrial impact over the Indian terrain during the erstwhile Gondwana sedimentation period that may be associated with the Permian-Triassic mass extinction,the most severe one in the Earth's history.

Napoleonaea vogelii, Lecythidaceae family is a tropical evergreen shrub widely distributed in the coastal regions of West African countries including Benin. It is a medicinal plant whose leaves and bark are of great utility in traditional medicine. Despite its importance, it is little used in ethnoveterinary medicine and its pharmacological basis in this field and especially in the treatment of parasitic diseases caused by Haemonchus contortus is very little documented. This review aims to synthesise existing data on the chemical composition, pharmacological and zootechnical usefulness of N. vogelii and to identify the gaps of these works in order to propose research perspectives. Google Scholar database was used to gather the majority of useful information available on N. vogelii. The results showed that of the 23 publications included in the present study, 60.87% dealt distinctly with the pharmacological properties of N. vogelii. These properties include anthelmintic, antidiabetic, wound healing, antimicrobial, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties and N. vogelii contains many secondary metabolites including alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, saponins, glycosides which give it its pharmacological properties. The Correspondence Factor Analysis performed for the variables extracts and chemical compounds showed that the presence of a given chemical compound is not dependent on the type of extract. This work has gathered information on N. vogelii and found that the species has powerful therapeutic potentials but very little use in traditional veterinary medicine. COMPUTATION OF RETURN FLOWS DUE TO NAVIGATION TRAFFICS IN RESTRICTED WATERWAYS

The paper deals with the development of an empirical model to compute the return flow due to the movement of navigation traffics in restricted waterway when the speed of the navigation traffic is under sub-critical range. The velocity profile of the return flow is modelled, where the functional dependence with respect to ambient flow, principal dimensions of the vessel, wetted cross-sectional area of the river, width and average depth of the river, and the lateral distance of the vessel from the bank are implicitly considered. This model has been validated with the observed data collected from the four specific sites, such as Kampsville, Apple River Island, Goose Island and Clarks Ferry of Illinois River during barge-tow movement. The present model shows significant improvement of return flow prediction in comparison to earlier empirical results. This model has also the ability to determine the locus of zero velocity point.

Cell proliferation is an important process in life for growth of normal and cancer cells. The signal transduction pathways activated during this process are strictly regulated. This editorial focuses on the role of nicotine, a mitogen, in the induction of signaling pathways resulting in proliferation of pancreatic tumor cells and compares these events with those in normal acinar cells isolated from the rat pancreas. The data shows striking similarities between these two cellular systems. In addition, the editorial reviews very recent literature of the contribution of MAPK signaling in cell lines associated with human diseases. A prospective cellular model of nicotine induced activation of MAPK cascade is presented.

关节源性肌肉抑制(AMI)是膝关节损伤后股四头肌激活失败和膝关节伸展功能障碍的常见原因,但目前对其认识尚不足。虽然这被认为是防止进一步伤害的保护机制,但它也可能对有效恢复构成挑战。本研究旨在确定前交叉韧带损伤(ACL)后AMI的发生率和相关因素。受试者为ACL损伤的连续性患者。所有患者均接受体格检查并完成患者报告的结局指标,包括疼痛视觉模拟量表(VAS)、主观国际膝关节文献委员会(IKDC)评分、Lysholm评分、膝关节损伤和骨关节炎结局评分(KOOS)、简单膝关节数值和入组前活动水平。
