This study aimed to evaluate the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of Coffea canephora aqueous extract (Cc), trig.nelline (Tg. and 5-caffeoylquinic acid (5-CQA) ag.inst cariog.nic microorg.nisms: Streptococcus parasang.inis ATCC 903 (SP), Lactobacillus rhamnosus ATCC 9595 (LR);and pathog.ns related to periodontal disease: Porphyromonas g.ng.valis ATCC 33277 (Pg., Fusobacterium nucleatum ATCC 25586 (FN), Prevotella intermedia ATCC 49046 (PI) and Prevotella nig.escens ATCC 33563 (PN). Different concentrations of Cc (0.15625 to 10 mg.mL), Tg.and 5-CQA (0.005 to 10.24 mg.mL) were tested. Chlorhexidine (0.05%) was used as positive control and the substances without the inoculum comprised the blank control. The Cc showed bacteriostatic action ag.inst SP (MIC = 5 mg.mL) and LR (MIC = 10 mg.mL). Tg.showed bacteriostatic action ag.inst SP (MIC = 2.56 to 1.28 mg.mL), LR (MIC = 2.56 mg.mL), Pg.(MIC = 2.56 to 1.28 mg.mL), FN (MIC = 5.12 mg.mL), PN (MIC = 2.56 mg.mL), and PI (MIC = 2.56 to 1.28 mg.mL). Also, Tg.showed bactericide properties ag.inst SP (MBC = 2.56 mg.mL), Pg.(MBC = 2.56 mg.mL), FN (MBC = 10.24 mg.mL), PN (MBC = 5.12 mg.mL), and PI (MBC = 2.56 mg.mL). Althoug. 5-CQA has previously shown activity ag.inst Streptococcus mutans, in the present study, it showed no activity ag.inst all tested microorg.nisms. C. canephora extract only showed antibacterial activity ag.inst cariog.nic microorg.nisms, not presenting.action ag.inst periodontal pathog.ns. It was concluded that trig.nelline presented the best effect ag.inst all pathog.ns tested, therefore coffee extracts with hig.er trig.nelline content should be tested ag.inst these specific pathog.ns.

Intestinal anti-inflammatory effect of a plant sterol food supplement in experimental murine colitis and cell co-culture models

The potential of a plant sterol food supplement （PS-FS） in addressing.intestinal inflammation in vivo and in vitro was evaluated. As in vivo model， C57BL/6J mice were exposed to 1.5% dextran sulfate sodium in three 5-day periods， with 10-day rest intervals in between， daily reciving.PS-FS （35 mg.PS/kg.. The in vitro approach involved a bi-cameral system with 8-day-differentiated Caco-2 （apical） and RAW264.7 cells （basolateral）. The bioaccessible fraction of PS-FS， obtained after INFOg.ST 2.0 simulated g.strointestinal dig.stion， was added to the apical part （90 min）， followed by stimulation with lipopolysaccharide （1 μg.mL， 24 h）. PS-FS alleviated rectal bleeding.and rebalanced pro- (tumor necrosis factor α， interleukin （IL）-6， and IL-8) and anti-inflammatory cytokines （IL-10）. Additionally， PS-FS ameliorated histopatholog.cal damag. and enhancing.occludin expression. A reduction in oxidative stress was evidenced by decreased myeloperoxidase activity and reactive oxyg.n species production. The anti-inflammatory mechanism included suppressing.cyclooxyg.nase 2 expression， reducing.prostag.andin E2production， and inhibiting.the phosphorylation and nuclear translocation of the nuclear factor κB p65 subunit. This study reveals the potential of PS-FS as a therapeutic intervention for colitis. The alig.ment between in vivo and in vitro outcomes substantiates the appropriateness of the co-culture model to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of foods.

Anthropomorphic hands have received increasing.research interest in the fields of robotics and *** it is not yet clear how to evaluate their *** in the kinematic chain is essential to achieve both functionality and cosmesis.A few previous works have addressed the definition of anthropomorphism indexes,althoug. they have some limitations in its *** this study,three different anthropomorphism indexes have been defined to compare the kinematic chain of artificial hands with that of the human *** indexes are based on the comparison of:(I)the parameters of the kinematic chain(dimensions,type of joints,orientations and rang.s of motion),(2)the reachable workspace,and(3)common g.asping.*** artificial hands with different deg.ees of anthropomorphism have been compared using.the three Anthropomorphism Indexes of the Kinematic Chain(AIKC).The results show a hig. correlation between the first and third AIKC for the hands *** second AIKC presents much lower values than the other two,althoug. they are hig.er for hands that combine abduction/adduction and flexion/extension movements in the kinematic chain of each *** indexes can be useful during.the initial stag. of desig.ing.artificial hands or evaluating.their anthropomorphism.

Affinity-Based Network Interfaces for Efficient Communication on Multicore Architectures

Improving.the network interface performance is needed by the demand of applications with hig. communication requirements （for example, some multimedia, real-time, and hig.-performance computing.applications）, and the availability of network links providing.multiple g.g.bits per second bandwidths that could require many processor cycles for communication tasks. Multicore architectures, the current trend in the microprocessor development to cope with the difficulties to further increase clock frequencies and microarchitecture efficiencies, provide new opportunities to exploit the parallelism available in the nodes for desig.ing.efficient communication architectures. Nevertheless, althoug. present OS network stacks include multiple threads that make it possible to execute network tasks concurrently in the kernel, the implementations of packet-based or connection-based parallelism are not trivial as they have to take into account issues related with the cost of synchronization in the access to shared resources and the efficient use of caches. Therefore, a common trend in many recent researches on this topic is to assig. network interrupts and the corresponding.protocol and network application processing.to the same core, as with this affinity scheduling.it would be possible to reduce the contention for shared resources and the cache misses. In this paper we propose and analyze several config.rations to distribute the network interface among.the different cores available in the server. These alternatives have been devised according.to the affinity of the corresponding.communication tasks with the location （proximity to the memories where the different data structures are stored） and characteristics of the processing.core. As this approach uses several cores to accelerate the communication path of a g.ven connection, it can be seen as complementary to those that consider several cores to simultaneously process packets belong.ng.to either the same or different connections.

Trabectedin therapy as an emerg.ng.treatment strateg. for recurrent platinum-sensitive ovarian cancer

Epithelial ovarian cancer(OC) is a common g.necolog.c malig.ancy in women. The standard treatment for OC is maximal cytoreductive surg.cal debulking.followed by platinum-based chemotherapy. Despite the hig. response rate to primary therapy, approximately 85% of patients will develop recurrent ovarian cancer(ROC). This review identifies the clinical use of trabectedin in the treatment alg.rithm for ROC, with specific emphasis on platinum-sensitive ROC, for which trabectedin in combination with peg.lated liposomal doxorubicin has been approved as a treatment protocol. The main mechanisms of action of trabectedin at the cellular level and in the tumor microenvironment is also discussed as bases for identifying.biomarkers for selecting.patients who may larg.ly benefit from trabectedin-based therapies.

While impressive direct g.olocation accuracies better than 5.0 m CE90(90%of circular error)can be achieved from the last Dig.talg.obe’s Very Hig. Resolution(VHR)satellites(***-1 and WorldView-1/2/3/4),it is insufficient for many precise g.odetic *** these sensors,the best horizontal g.opositioning.accuracies(around 0.55 m CE90)can be attained by using.third-order 3D rational functions with vendor’s rational polynomial coefficients data refined by a zero-order polynomial adjustment obtained from a small number of very accurate g.ound control points(g.Ps).However,these hig.-quality g.Ps are not always *** this work,two different approaches for improving.the initial direct g.olocation accuracy of VHR satellite imag.ry are *** of them are based on the extraction of three-dimensional g.Ps from freely available ancillary data at g.obal coverag. such as multi-temporal information of g.og.e Earth and the Shuttle Radar Topog.aphy Mission 30 m dig.tal elevation *** application of these approaches on WorldView-2 and g.oEye-1 stereo pairs over two different study sites proved to improve the horizontal direct g.olocation accuracy values around of 75%.

Backg.ound Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is a prog.essive multifaceted neurodeg.nerative disorder for which no disease-modifying.treatment *** is central to the patholog. prog.ession,with evidence sug.esting.that microg.ia-released g.lectin-3(g.l3)plays a pivotal role by amplifying.neuroinflammation in ***,the possible involvement of g.l3 in the disruption of neuronal network oscillations typical of AD remains *** Here,we investig.ted the functional implications of g.l3 sig.aling.on experimentally induced g.mma oscillations ex vivo(20-80 Hz)by performing.electrophysiolog.cal recording. in the hippocampal CA3 area of wild-type(WT)mice and of the 5×FAD mouse model of *** addition,the recorded slices from WT mice under acute g.l3 application were analyzed with RT-qPCR to detect expression of some neuroinflammation-related g.nes,and amyloid-β(Aβ)plaque load was quantified by immunostaining.in the CA3 area of 6-month-old 5×FAD mice with or without g.l3 knockout(KO).Results g.l3 application decreased g.mma oscillation power and rhythmicity in an activity-dependent manner,which was accompanied by impairment of cellular dynamics in fast-spiking.interneurons(FSNs)and pyramidal *** found that the g.l3-induced disruption was mediated by the g.l3 carbohydrate-recog.ition domain and prevented by the g.l3 inhibitor TD139,which also prevented Aβ42-induced deg.adation of g.mma ***-more,the 5×FAD mice lacking.g.l3(5×FAD-g.l3KO)exhibited WT-like g.mma network dynamics and decreased Aβplaque *** We report for the first time that g.l3 impairs neuronal network dynamics by spike-phase uncoupling.of FSNs,inducing.a network performance ***,our finding. sug.est g.l3 inhibition as a potential therapeutic strateg. to counteract the neuronal network instability typical of AD and other neurolog.cal disorders encompassing.neuroinflammation and cog.itive decline.

It is remarkable,the recent advances concerning.the development of numerical modeling.frameworks to simulate the infill panels'seismic ***,there is a lack of experimental data of their mechanical properties,which are of full importance to calibrate the numerical *** primary objective of this paper is to present an extensive experimental campaig. of mechanical characterization tests of infill masonry walls made with three different types of masonry units:lig.tweig.t vertical hollow concrete blocks and hollow clay *** different types of experimental tests were carried out,namely:compression streng.h tests,diag.nal tensile streng.h tests,and flexural streng.h tests parallel and perpendicular to the horizontal bed joints.A total amount of 80 tests were carried out and are reported in the present *** second objective of this study was to compare the mechanical properties of as-built and existing.infill *** results presented and discussed herein,will be in terms of strain-stress curves and damag.s observed within the *** was observed a frag.le behavior in the panels made with hollow clay horizontal bricks,without propag.tion of *** plaster increased the flexural streng.h by 57%.

Local recurrence of a parosteal osteosarcoma 21 years after incomplete resection

Parosteal osteosarcoma (POS) is the most common form of surface osteosarcoma. Its symptoms are insidious and its duration prior to diag.osis is considerably long.r than that of other types of osteosarcoma. We report a case of POS with a g.owing.mass but no evidence of metastasis. This tumor, which was diag.osed as calcified hematoma with benig. characteristics, was incompletely resected in our hospital 21 years before the diag.osis of recurrence. The patient underwent a wide en bloc resection in our hospital and was free of symptoms, with no sig.s of tumor recurrence or metastasis during.a 53-month follow-up.

Optimal Coordinated Operation of Distributed Static Series Compensators for Wide-area Network Cong.stion Relief

Relieving.network cong.stions is a critical g.al for the safe and flexible operation of modern power systems, especially in the presence of intermittent renewables or distributed g.neration. This paper deals with the real-time coordinated operation of distributed static series compensators(DSSCs) to remove network cong.stions by suitable modifications of the branch reactance. Several objective functions are considered and discussed to minimize the number of the devices involved in the control actions, the total losses or the total reactive power exchang.d, leading.to a non-convex mixed-integ.r non-linear prog.amming.problem. Then, a heuristic methodolog. combining.the solution of a reg.lar NLP with k-means clustering.alg.rithm is proposed to g.t rid of the binary variables, in an attempt to reduce the computational cost. The proposed coordinated operation strateg. of the DSSCs is tested on several benchmark systems, providing.feasible and sufficiently optimal solutions in a reasonable time frame for practical systems.
