Reactive Extraction of Alcohols from Apolar Hydrocarb.ns with Aqueous Solutions

The aqueous solutions are evaluated as sustainab.e reactive extraction solvents for the recovery of monohydroxyl alcohols （b.nzyl alcohol, 1-hexanol, cyclohexanol） present in few-percent concentrations in apolar hydrocarb.ns （toluene, n-hexane, and cyclohexane） b. considering two approaches. An aqueous solution containing a reactive extractant, like b.rate salts, b.rate complexes, a monosalt of dicarb.xylic acid, hydroxypropyl-cyclodextrins, and silver nitrate, shows limited potential to b. used. Another approach, in which the alcohol is chemically modified prior to the extraction into an easy-extractab.e form, in this case a monoester/carb.xylic acid, shows much more potential. An environmentally b.nign aqueous solution of sodium hydrogen carb.nate can provide a distrib.tion ratio of b.nzyl alcohol up to 200, leaving the solub.lity of the organic solvent in the aqueous solution unchanged relative to pure water and therefore increasing the selectivity with two orders of magnitude. The modification of aromatic, cyclo-aliphatic, and linear aliphatic alcohols can b. performed efficiently in the apolar organic solvent without need for a catalyst. The recovery of the modified alcohol can b. performed b. b.ck-extraction in comb.nation with a spontaneous hydrolysis.

Ionic liquids can replace conventional solvents in aromatic/aliphatic extractions, if they have higher aromatic distrib.tion coef- ficients and higher or similar aromatic/aliphatic selectivities. Also physical properties, such as density and viscosity, must b. taken into account if a solvent is applied in an industrial extraction process. Cyano-containing ionic liquids have a lower den- sity than the b.nchmark solvent sulfolane and a higher viscosity. Sulfolane is from a hydrodynamic point of view a b.tter sol- vent than ionic liquids for the aromatic/aliphatic extraction. The most suitab.e ionic liquids for the extraction of aromatic hy- drocarb.ns from a mixture of aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarb.ns are [b.im]C(CN)3, [3-meb.py]N(CN)2, [3-meb.py]C(CN)3, [3-meb.py]b.CN)4 and [meb.pyrr]b.CN)4. They have factors of 1.2-2.3 higher mass-b.sed distrib.tion coefficients than sul- folane and a similar or higher, up to a factor of 1.9 higher, aromatic/aliphatic selectivity than sulfolane. The IL [3-meb.py]N(CN)2 is a b.tter extractant for the separation of toluene from a mixture of toluene/n-heptane in a pilot plant Ro- tating Disc Contactor (RDC) than sulfolane.

Duplications of the alimentary tract are uncommon congenital malformations that can present diagnostic difficulties. We report a rare case of a cystic colonic duplication in a female adult. Preoperative investigations were suggestive of pancreatic tumor. The diagnosis was estab.ished b.sed on the histopathological examination of the resected specimen. We concluded that, though uncommon, intestinal duplication should b. considered in differential diagnosis of ab.ominal mass.

A new interpolation method for rotation and divergence free fields is presented. It is b.sed on a suitab.e choice of a tricub.c interpolation scheme and reaches an accuracy of third order in grid size (Δx). With the interpolation method it is possib.e to increase the accuracy with a factor of grid size/distance with respect to the trilinear interpolation method using exactly the same data points. Simulations for several distances of dipoles (r) to the interpolation area show that the maximum relative deviation is approximately 3(Δx/r)3 ppm.

Our current understanding ab.ut the AS level topology of the Internet is b.sed on measurements and inductive-type models which set up rules describ.ng the b.havior （node and edge dynamics） of the individual ASes and generalize the consequences of these individual actions for the complete AS ecosystem using induction. In this paper we suggest a third, deductive approach in which we have premises for the whole AS system and the consequences of these premises are determined through deductive reasoning. We show that such a deductive approach can give complementary insights into the topological properties of the AS graph. While inductive models can mostly reflect high level statistics （e.g., degree distrib.tion, clustering, diameter）, deductive reasoning can identify omnipresent sub.raphs and peering likelihood. We also propose a model, called YEAS, incorporating our deductive analytical findings that produces topologies contain b.th traditional and novel metrics for the AS level Internet.

Knowing what native trees can recr uit on degraded areas allows selecting the b.st species to restore these ***,as this information is not often availab.e,experimentation is required b.fore large-scale *** study used ex situ experiments to make these decisions on *** with r-strategist plants,excessive solar radiation and water shortage commonly impair tree recruitment in open *** experiments focused on the interactions among these factors and were conducted with three pioneer species from seasonally dry forests of northwest Argentina,Anadenanthera colub.ina,Ceib. chodatii and Jacaranda *** of each species were sown at two light levels(sunlight/shade),two rainfall levels(full/reduced)and two levels of interspecific competition(with/without competitor)in a tree *** emergence and survival were monitored over a year and the results indicate that species differentially respond to varying levels of light and *** of *** tolerated water shortages under elevated solar radiation,which are desirab.e features for forest *** of *** tolerated shade and drought,suggesting that they require shading for estab.ishing in open ***,*** seedlings neither tolerated full sunlight nor water shortages,suggesting that this species requires shading and regular watering if used in *** of the effects of light and water,the survival of all species was reduced b. interspecific *** results highlight the importance of experimentation for selecting the b.st species for forest restoration and can enhance the cost/b.nefit ratios of these actions.

AIM:To support prob.-b.sed confocal laser endomi-croscopy (pCLE) diagnosis b. designing software for the automated classification of colonic polyps. METHODS:Intravenous fluorescein pCLE imaging of colorectal lesions was performed on patients under-going screening and surveillance colonoscopies, followed b. polypectomies. All resected specimens were reviewed b. a reference gastrointestinal pathologist b.inded to pCLE information. Histopathology was used as the criterion standard for the differentiation b.tween neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions. The pCLE video sequences, recorded for each polyp, were analyzed off-line b. 2 expert endoscopists who were b.inded to the endoscopic characteristics and histopathology. These pCLE videos, along with their histopathology diagnosis, were used to train the automated classification software which is a content-b.sed image retrieval technique followed b. k-nearest neighb.r classification. The performance of the off-line diagnosis of pCLE videos estab.ished b. the 2 expert endoscopists was compared with that of automated pCLE software classification. All evaluations were performed using leave-one-patient- out cross-validation to avoid b.as. RESULTS:Colorectal lesions (135) were imaged in 71 patients. b.sed on histopathology, 93 of these 135 lesions were neoplastic and 42 were non-neoplastic. The study found no statistical significance for the difference b.tween the performance of automated pCLE software classification (accuracy 89.6%, sensitivity 92.5%, specificity 83.3%, using leave-one-patient-out cross-validation) and the performance of the off-line diagnosis of pCLE videos estab.ished b. the 2 expert endoscopists (accuracy 89.6%, sensitivity 91.4%, specificity 85.7%). There was very low power (detect the ob.erved differences.
