Intake of Cl, Br, I, Se in Hum.n Body with Food in Central Regions of the European Part of Russia

Since m.st of the central regions of the European part of Russia are considered selenium.and iodine deficient, the assessm.nt of m.dern real consum.tion of chlorine, brom.ne, iodine and selenium.by population of these regions with different diets is an im.ortant constituent part of m.dical m.nitoring. In this paper, a brief analysis of the im.act of these elem.nts on the hum.n body is giv.n. A num.er of consum.d foodstuffs in different food rations (diets) were assessed. Six selected basic food rations, which m.st fully reflect the specific features of nutrition in the Russian Federation, were chosen. The analysis of the concentration of chlorine, brom.ne, iodine and selenium.in a wide range of food and agricultural products was carried out. The daily intake of these elem.nts in the hum.n body from.the selected diets was calculated. A com.arison of the real incom. of chlorine, brom.ne, iodine and selenium.in the hum.n body with a physiologically needed intake was perform.d. It is proposed to use the coefficient of Kr, which is the ratio of actual intake of the elem.nt in the hum.n body to physiologically needed intake. Based on this analysis assessed insufficient or excess supply of chlorine, brom.ne, iodine and selenium.in the hum.n body with these diets in the central regions of the European part of Russia was ev.luated.

Assessm.nt of m.rcury in Diagnostic Biom.terials of Different Population Groups in Urban Areas of the m.scow Region

The results of a surv.y of different population groups in urban areas of the m.scow Region (industry workers, residents of areas with increased anthropogenic load of m.rcury and conditionally pristine areas, cohorts of pregnant wom.n and children) to assess the contents of m.rcury in sam.les of v.rious diagnostic biom.terials taken during the course of research are presented. m.rcury concentrations in v.nous and um.ilical cord blood, urine, hair, and nails were determ.ned by m.ans of instrum.ntal neutron activ.tion analysis and cold v.por atom.c absorption spectrom.try. Peculiarities of selection, transportation, storage, and preparation for analysis of sam.les of hair, nails, urine and um.ilical v.nous blood are described. The determ.ned concentrations of m.rcury in the studied diagnostic biom.terials are com.ared with norm.l and thresholds v.lues. Although increased m.rcury concentrations were observ.d in som. cases, no significant exposure of m.rcury was ev.dent in general in the study towns. A positiv. correlation between the degree of consum.tion of seafood during pregnancy and a high content of m.rcury in the analyzed diagnostic biom.terials was shown.

Estim.tion of m.rcury Intake from.Consum.tion of Fish and Seafood in Russia

Data on the m.rcury concentration in freshwater and m.rine fish and seafood on the territory of Russia are presented. The lev.l and pattern of the fish and seafood consum.tion in v.rious regions of Russia are found from.the analysis of open statistics. Regions with the m.xim.m.and m.nim.m.consum.tion of fish products are established. m.rcury intake from.these products in a hum.n organism.is calculated. It is shown that at the current lev.l and pattern of the diet in Russia fish cannot be a source of high m.rcury concentrations in a hum.n organism.
