Stroke is the second leading cause of death in the world. A significant part of survived people b.come invalids, dependent on others and in need of outside care. This is a heavy b.rden for their families and society. The life of patients surviving ischemic stroke(~80% of all strokes) may b. sub.ivided b. three main phases:(a) The acute phase that lasts ab.ut first 24 hours, when the neurons may b. saved and the neuroprotective therapy may b. efficient;(b. The early recovery phase that lasts for several days and weeks, when the repair and regeneration processes develop, and partial recovery of b.ain functions occurs;and (c) The chronic phase(weeks, months and years)。

Fundamental prob.ems related to the high-speed comb.stion are analyzed. The result of plasma-chemical modeling is presented as a motivation of experimental activity. Numerical simulations of the effect of uniform non-equilib.ium discharge on the premixed hydrogen and ethylene-air mixture in supersonic flow demonstrate an advantage of such a technique over a heating. Experimental results on multi-electrode non-uniform discharge maintenance b.hind wallstep and in cavity of supersonic flow are presented. The model test on hydrogen and ethylene ignition is demonstrated at direct fuel injection to low-temperature high-speed airflow.

Characterization and Electrochemical Properties of Nanostructured Zr-Doped Anatase Tio_2 Tub.s Synthesized b. Sol–Gel Template Route

A series of nanostructured Zr-doped anatase Tio_2 tub.s with the Zr/Ti molar ratio of 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, and0.09 were prepared b. a sol–gel technology on a carb.n fib.r template. The electrochemical performance of Zr-doped anatase Tio_2 as anodes for rechargeab.e lithium b.tteries was investigated and compared with undoped titania. Tests represented that after 35-fold charge/discharge cycling at C/10 the reversib.e capacity of Zr-doped titania（Zr/Ti = 0.03） reaches 135 m A h g^（-1）, while the capacity of undoped titania（Zr/Ti = 0） yielded only 50 m A h g^（-1）. b.sed on the results of the physicochemical investigation, three reasons of improving electrochemical performance of Zr-doped titania were suggested. According to the scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, Zr^（4＋） doping induces a decrease in nanoparticle size, which facilitates the Li＋diffusion. The Raman investigations show the more open structure of Zr-doped Tio_2 as compared to undoped titania due to changing of the unit cell parameters, that significantly affects on the reversib.lity of the insertion/extraction process. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy results indicate that sub.titution of Zr^（4＋） for Ti^（4＋） into anatase Tio_2 has favorab.e effects on the conductivity.

Cytotoxicity and non-specific cellular uptake of b.re and surface-modified upconversion nanoparticles in human skin cells

The cytotoxicity and non-specific cellular uptake of the most popular composition of upconversion nanoparticle （UCNP）, NaYF4：Yb.3＋：Er^3＋, is reported using normal human skin cells, including dermal fib.ob.asts and immortalized human epidermal linear keratinocytes （HaCaT）. A new hydrophilization reaction of as-synthesized UCNPs b.sed on tetramethylammonium hydroxide （TMAH） enab.ed evaluation of the intrinsic cytotoxicity of b.re UCNPs. The cytotoxicity effects of the UCNP surface-coating and polystyrene host were investigated over the concentration range 62.5-125 μg/mL with 24-h incub.tion, using a MTT test and optical microscopy. The fib.ob.ast viab.lity was not compromised b. UCNPs, whereas the viab.lity of keratinocytes varied from 52% ± 4% to 100% ± 10% than the control group, depending on the surface modification. b.re UCNPs reduced the keratinocyte viab.lity to 76% ± 3%, while exhib.ting profound non-specific cellular uptake. Hydrophilic poly（D,L-lactide）- and poly（maleic anhydride-alt-l-octadecene）-coated UCNPs were found to b. least cytotoxic among the polymer-coated UCNPs, and were readily internalized b. human skin cells. Polystyrene microb.ads impregnated with UCNPs remained nontoxic. Surprisingly, no correlation was found b.tween UCNP cytotoxicity and the internalization level in cells, although the latter ranged b.oadly from 0.03% to 59%, b.nchmarked against 100% uptake level of TMAH-UCNPs.
