Carbon dots(CDs)are light-emitting nanoparticles that show great promise for applications in biology and medicine due to the ease of fabrication,biocompatibility,and attractive optical *** chirality,on the other hand,is an intrinsic feature inherent in many objects in nature,and it can play an important role in the formation of artificial complexes based on CDs that are implemented for enantiomer recognition,site-specific bonding,*** employed a one-step hydrothermal synthesis to produce chiral CDs from the commonly used precursors citric acid and ethylenediamine together with a set of different chiral precursors,namely,L-isomers of cysteine,glutathione,phenylglycine,and *** resulting CDs consisted of O,N-doped(and also S-doped,in some cases)carbonized cores with surfaces rich in amide and hydroxyl groups;they exhibited high photoluminescence quantum yields reaching 57%,chiral optical signals in the UV and visible spectral regions,and two-photon *** signals of CDs were rather complex and originated from a combination of the chiral precursors attached to the CD surface,hybridization of lower-energy levels of chiral chromophores formed within CDs,and intrinsic chirality of the CD *** DFT analysis,we showed how incorporation of the chiral precursors at the optical centers induced a strong response in their circular dichroism *** optical characteristics of these CDs,which can easily be dispersed in solvents of different polarities,remained stable during pH changes in the environment and after UV exposure for more than 400 min,which opens a wide range of bio-applications.

AIM:To study the demographic and endoscopic characteristics of patients with sessile serrated adenoma(SSA) in a single ***:Patients with SSA were identified by review of the pathology database of Mayo Clinic Arizona from 2005 to 2007.A retrospective chart review was performed to extract data on demographics,polyp characteristics,presence of synchronous adenomatous polyps or cancer,polypectomy methods,and related ***:One hundred and seventy-one(2.9%) of all patients undergoing colonoscopy had a total of 226 *** mean(SE) size of the SSAs was 8.1(0.4) mm;42% of SSAs were ≤ 5 mm,and 69% were ≤ 9 ***-one per cent of SSAs were located in the cecum or ascending *** half of the patients had synchronous polyps of other histological types,including hyperplastic and adenomatous *** adenocarcinoma was present in seven(4%) ***-seven percent of polyps were removed by ***:Among patients with colon polyps,2.9% were found to have *** of the SSAs were located in the right side and were safely managed by colonoscopy.

Anti-viral role of toll like receptor 4 in hepatitis B virus infection: An in vitro study

AIM Toll like receptors plays a significant anti-viral role in different infections. The aim of this study was to look into the role of toll like receptor 4(TLR4) in hepatitis B virus(HBV) *** Real time PCR was used to analyze the transcription of TLR4 signaling molecules, cell cycle regulators and HBV DNA viral load after triggering the Hep G2.2.15 cells with TLR4 specific ligand. Nuclear factor(NF)-κB translocation on TLR4 activation was analyzed using microscopic techniques. Protein and cell cycle analysis was done using Western Blot and FACS *** The present study shows that TLR4 activation represses HBV infection. As a result of HBV suppression, there are several changes in host factors which include partial release in G1/S cell cycle arrest and changes in host epigenetic marks. Finally, it was observed that anti-viral action of TLR4 takes place through the NF-κB *** The study shows that TLR4 activation in HBV infection brings about changes in hepatocyte microenvironment and can be used for developing a promising therapeutic target in future.

Various imaging modalities are available for the diagnosis, staging and response evaluation of patients with renal cell carcinoma(RCC). While contrast enhanced computed tomography(CT) is used as the standard of imaging for size, morphological evaluation and response assessment in RCC, a new functional imaging technique like perfusion CT(p CT), goes down to the molecular level and provides new perspectives in imaging of RCC. p CT depicts regional tumor perfusion and vascular permeability which are indirect parameters of tumor angiogenesis and thereby provides vital information regarding tumor microenvironment. Also response evaluation using p CT may predate the size criteria used in Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors, as changes in the perfusion occurs earlier following tissue kinase inhibitors before any actual change in size. This may potentially help in predicting prognosis, better selection of therapy and more accurate and better response evaluation in patients with RCC. This article describes the techniques and role of p CT in staging and response assessment in patients with RCCs.
