Type I interferons promote the survival and proinflammatory properties of transitional B cells in systemic lupus erythematosus patients

A hallmark of systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE)is the breaking of B-cell tolerance with the generation of high-affinity autoantibodies;however,the antibody-independent features of the B-cell compartment in SLE are less *** this study,we performed an extensive examination of B-cell subsets and their proinflammatory properties in a Chinese cohort of new-onset SLE *** observed that SLE patients exhibited an increased frequency of transitional B cells compared with healthy donors and rheumatoid arthritis *** from SLE patients potently promoted the survival of transitional B cells in a type I IFN-dependent manner,which can be recapitulated by direct IFN-α***,the effect of IFN-αon enhanced survival of transitional B cells was associated with NF-κB pathway activation and reduced expression of the pro-apoptotic molecule *** B cells from SLE patients harbored a higher capacity to produce proinflammatory cytokine IL-6,which was also linked to the overactivated type I IFN *** addition,the frequency of IL-6-producing transitional B cells was positively correlated with disease activity in SLE patients,and these cells were significantly reduced after short-term standard ***,the current study provides a direct link between type I IFN pathway overactivation and the abnormally high frequency and proinflammatory properties of transitional B cells in active SLE patients,which contributes to the understanding of the roles of type I IFNs and B cells in the pathogenesis of SLE.

Er-doped concentric-cores optical fiber for simultaneous amplification and compensation of positive dispersion

The Er-doped concentric-cores dispersion compensating fiber (EDDCF) has been demonstrated. The rare earth has been doped as a ring around the inner core. We have obtained 14-dB gain at 1550 nm (using 100-mW pump power and 980-nm wavelength) with dispersion of about -165 ps/(km·nm). It is useful for the optical fiber network where amplification as well as negative dispersion are necessary.

Design of a Li-Fi Transceiver

The latest uproar in this era is about a technology termed as Light Fidelity or more commonly known as Li-Fi. There are currently two trends being seen: First, the extension or enrichment of wireless services and other being increased in user demand for these services, but the available RF spectrum for usage is very limited. So the new technology of Li-Fi came into picture, which uses visible light as a source of communication. Li-Fi is the most recent development which is resourceful. In this technology, LEDs are used to transmit data in the visible light spectrum. This technology can be compared with that of Wi-Fi and offers advantages like increased accessible spectrum, efficiency, security, low latency and much higher speed. This research paper aims at designing a Li-Fi transceiver using Arduino that is able to transmit digital data. The hardware has been designed using Eagle CAD (version 7.1.0) tool and Proteus design tool (version 8). The software coding is done by using Java (version 8). Successful transmission and reception of text, image and video signals is carried out on the transceiver. Hence this research work gives an innovative way of designing a transceiver which works by using off the shelf low cost components and using visible light spectrum.

Biological Synthesis of Colloidal Gold Nanoprisms Using <i>Penicillium citrinum</i>MTCC9999

This report provides for the first time rapid novel environment friendly cell surface based synthesis of stable gold nanoprisms at room temperature using Penicillium citrinum MTCC9999 biomass. The UV-Visible spectral scan of dispersed gold nanoparticles (GNPs) solution showed absorption maxima at 540 nm due to surface plasma resonance (SPR) of gold nanoparticles. Typical Transmission Electron Microscopic (TEM) images showed that most of them were prism (55%) shaped with a diameter ranging from 20 - 40 nm. These results obtained from TEM correlated well with the data obtained from Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) experiment. Average zeta potential of GNPs was -20 mV suggesting some biomolecules capped the nanoparticles imparting a net negative charge over it. FTIR analysis also showed that protein molecules were involved in stabilization.

The present study enumerates the diversity of corticolous lichens from Kokrajhar district of Assam *** study records 54 species of lichens belonging to 21 genera and 14 *** of the species are crustose(44 species)and 10 are *** of the species,Astrothelium alboverrucoides is a new record to India while five species viz.,Graphis sayeri,Hemithecium croceum,Malmidea piperis,Ocellularia allosporoides and Porina belanospora are new additions to the lichen biota of *** the species,nine are endemic to *** is the dominant family and Dirinaria consimilis is frequently found in all the study *** indicates its scope for future applications in other studies related to lichens in the region.

Wastewaters from various process industries,namely food and agricultural,sugar mill,brewery,milk,vegetable and fruit,and meat and fsheries processing industries and their wastewater efuents contain nutrients,organic matter,inorganic,heavy metals,suspended solids,and *** discharges of non-treated wastewater enter the nearby aquatic ecosystem(e.g.,lakes,rivers)and are a signifcant concern due to the presence of diferent nutrients,competing ions and C containing *** causes excessive growth of algae,loss of habitat/species,and other negative impacts on human health/*** the present review,diferent treatment approaches have been discussed in utilizing these nutrients to synthesize value-added products such as biopolymer,biofuel,pigment,organic acid,or *** biopolymers can be used to prepare various food products/packaging ***,chitosan,carrageenan,alginate,and pectin are good examples of non-food *** these products,poly-β-hydroxybutyrate(PHB)synthesis from wastewater nutrients is reported as a new source of bio-nanocomposite materials/biopolymer-based *** this review,the diferent treatment approaches are discussed,which are being used worldwide for the removal/recovery of nutrients,toxic pollutants,and the potential resource recovery of value-added products from wastewater.

Chromatographic Fraction of Polygonum hydropiper Root Modulates the Expression of Transforming Growth Factor-βI (TGF-βI) in Rat Uterus during Days 2-6 of Gestation

Objective To examine the effect of the root extract on the growth factor during early pregnancy from day 2 to day 6 of gestation. Methods A purified form of root extract of Polygonum hydropiper was obtained by Thin Layer Chromatography （TLC）. Localization of transforming growth factor （TGF）- β1 was studied by immunohistochemistry and the expression of the mRNA of TGF- β1 was studied by Reverse transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction （RT-PCR） in uterine tissue from day 2 to day 6 of gestation. Results The TLC fraction treated in a dose of 5 mg/kg body weight per day showed decreased the number of implantation sites. The expression of TGF- β1 from day 2 to day 6 of gestation was altered by the TLCfraction and suppression of the mRNA transcript of the TGF- β1 on day 6 of gestation during implantation. Conclusion The root extract of Polygonum hydropiper in a dose of 5 mg/kg body weight per day decreased the expression of TGF- β1 in the implantation sites of rat uterus.

Objective:To assess the effect of cryopreservation on stemness and proliferation potential of sheep spermatogonial stem cells(SSCs)in ***:Sheep testicular cells were isolated and putative SSCs were enriched by the laminin-based differential plating *** SSCs were co-cultured with the Sertoli cell feeder prepared by the Datura Stramonium Agglutinin(DSA-lectin)-based *** cultured putative SSCs were cryopreserved in Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium-10%fetal bovine serum mixture(DMEM-10%FBS)media containing 10%dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO)alone or 10%DMSO plus 200 mM *** putative SSCs were evaluated for their proliferation potential using in vitro culture and stemness by ***,the transfection ability of cryopreserved putative SSCs was ***:We isolated 91%viable testicular cells from sheep *** majority of the laminin enriched cells expressed the SSC related marker,***-culture of sheep putative SSCs with Sertoli cell feeder resulted in the generation of stable colonies,and the expression of SSC marker was maintained after several passages.A significantly higher number of viable putative SSCs was recovered from SSCs cryopreserved in media containing 10%DMSO and 200 mM trehalose compared to 10%DMSO alone(P<0.01).Cryopreserved putative SSCs formed colonies and showed SSC marker expression similar to the non-cryopreserved putative *** appearance of green fluorescent colonies over the Sertoli cell feeder indicated that cryopreserved sheep SSCs were successfully ***:Cryopreserved putative SSCs can retain their stemness,colony forming ability,and transfection efficiency in *** research may help in the effective preservation of germplasm and the generation of transgenic ovine species.

Electrochemical, Photophysical, and Magnetic Properties of Green Emitting bis(2,5-Hexyloxy)-Phenylene-<i>alt</i>-Thiophene Fluorescent Conducting Oligomer Addended Fullerene-Diol Dyad

Towards the development of potential new organic photovoltaic and optoelectronic materials, a simple route to synthesize flexibly ether linked fullerene-bis[oligo-(phenylene-alt-thiophene)] and evaluation of electrochemical, photophysical and magnetic properties is presented. Flexible ether linking of oligo-phenylene-thiophene chain to 1, 2 C60(OH)2 is achieved employing Williamson’s ether synthesis. 7-chain phenylene-thiophene chain fluorescent conducting oligomer is synthesized using Grignard coupling reaction with preservation of bromo end groups. Oligomer is highly ordered and soluble in all organic solvents while on linking to fullerene-diol, solubility of adduct restricts only to dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). All the synthesized materials are characterized through spectroscopic techniques and molecular weight is determined by mass spectrometry and GPC. Properties of the material indicate the substantial effect of fullerene. High quenching in fluorescence intensity and strong paramagnetic property are observed in this material.

Comparison of Different Classification Methods on Glass Identification for Forensic Research

Classification methods play an important role in investigating crime in forensic research. Here we assess the relative performance of several classification methods, such as Logistic Regression （LR）, Linear Discriminant Analysis （LDA）, Quadratic Discriminant Analysis （QDA）, Mixture Discriminant Analysis （MDA） and Classification Tree （CT） on glass identification data. We present a different approach to investigate the relative performance of the classifiers by invoking the tests of statistical significance and the receiver operating characteristic （ROC） curves in addition to estimating the probabilities of correct classification （PCC）. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve （AUC）, the error rate and its 95% confidence interval are used to measure predictive power of these algorithms. Dimensionality reduction of data has been conducted using principal component analysis （PCA） and Fisher＇s linear discriminant analysis （FDA） and two major components were identified. Among all the classification methods mentioned above, the LDA and the QDA are observed to be statistically significant. The Box＇s M test （P〈0.0001）, which is used to test the homogeneity of covariance matrices, showed that the homogeneity of covariance could not be assumed for LDA. This suggests that for glass types, window and non-window, the QDA is superior to all methods. The CT, however, has been found to outperform FDA when all six categories of glass are considered.
