Climatic zone is one of the most important units for horticultural planning. Survival and failure of particular land use or farming system in a given region heavily relies on careful assessment of agroclimatic resources. Large variety of crops is being grown in Meghalaya traditionally, based on the needs and cultural practices of people without any consideration to the suitability of the climate. This study attempts to make adjustments with the climate based upon scientific knowledge to make the best use of the natural resources so as to recommend more area under horticultural crops. This has been made by identifying existing land use and appropriate land use strategies mainly for horticultural crops for each agro-climatic region. Modern Geospatial technology such as satellite Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) and GPS have been used effectively to provide newer dimensions in identifying suitable sites for various horticultural crops and also for appropriate monitoring and management of land resources in an integrated manner with reference to agro-climatic condition.

Urbanization in recent years plays an important role in increase in impervious areas with reducing in vegetation cover and pervious areas of natural landscape. This leads to a rise in temperature of urban areas, by several degrees particularly at night [1,2]. A novel geospatial approach has been adopted to determine the maximum temperature areas (hot spots) over Kamrup Metro District of Assam, which is a gateway for seven neighboring north eastern states of India. The G statistics have been calculated for detecting the presence of hot spot or cold spot over the entire study area which is a new approach in urban heat island studies. The resultant z-scores and p-values show the pixels with either high or low values cluster spatially. For statistically significant positive z-scores, the larger the z-score is, the more intense the clustering of high values (hot spot) and vice versa. Land Surface Temperature (LST) anomaly values and percentage of Impervious Surface Area (ISA) along with climatic data are used to conform the hot spot location. It is one of the densely populated areas with more commercial pockets thereby giving rise to anthropogenic heat discharge which accelerates the heat island phenomenon. Incorporation of socio-economic survey data as well as certain biophysical parameters can be used to know about the cause and future impact of urbanization.

The present study describes the production optimization of recombinant L-asparaginase II of Pectobacterium carotovorum MTCC 1428 in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) at batch and fed batch bioreactor level. Production of recombinant L-asparaginase II in batch and fed batch mode was found to be 1.34 and 5.38 folds higher, respectively as compared to shake flask culture. SDS-PAGE and native PAGE of the purified enzyme revealed that molecular mass of the subunits and native enzyme are ~37.5 kDa and ~150 kDa, respectively. Optimum range of pH and temperature for hydrolysis of L-asparagine were found to be 7.5 - 8.5 and 47°C - 52°C, respectively. The recombinant enzyme is very specific for its natural substrate, L-asparagine. The activity of recombinant L-asparaginase II is improved by mono cations and diverse effectors including Na+, K+, L-cystine, L-histidine, glutathione and 2-mercaptoethanol whereas, it is moderately inhibited by different divalent cations and thiol group blocking reagent. The kinetic parameters Km, Vmax, kcat and Km/Kcat of purified recombinant L-asparaginase II were determined. The purified L-asparaginase II possesses no partial glutaminase activity, which is prerequisite to reduce the possibility of side effects during the course of anti-cancer therapy.

Objective:Mandate from WHO has boosted up anti-filarial drug *** citrate（DEC） was not known for any direct effect on filarial ***,recent report proposed its direct apoptotic *** stress has been implicated in apoptotic impact.A study was designed to explore the possibility of oxidative rationale to be operative in the direct anti-filarial effect of ***:Various doses of DEC and potent oxidant H2O2 alone were used in vitro to check for the effects on *** microfilariae,followed by the use of DEC in combination with H2O2.Reversal of the oxidative impact of the drug was tested using the antioxidant,vitamin C and also lipid peroxidation levels in the post incubation culture supematants were ***:As expected,DEC alone failed to record any anti-filarial effect.H2O2 alone also failed to show any significant effect until a very high dose was ***,in combination significant anti-filarial effect was noticed,which allowed even 44%reduction in the dose of H2O2.Any significant lipid peroxidation was not *** C demonstrated 30%inhibitory ***:DEC and H2O2 combination being able to educe synergistic anti-filarial effect and inhibition of the same by vitamin C hinted towards covert oxidative component in the mechanism of *** implication of non-significant lipid peroxidation was addressed in the perspective of subtle oxidative nexus that seems to be operative in observed anti-filarial effect. Exploration of such rationale might lead to novel drug development.

Objective To study its effects on reproductive performance in albino rats.Methods The chromatographic fraction （CF） of crude methanolic extract of the herb has been subcutaneously administered to female albino rats. Experiments were carried out in adult cyclic females and oavriectomised （OVX） females during early gestation period. Uterine horns were collected following the respective treatment regimen to stud）, the protein profile in 15% gel SDS-PAGE.Results The CF induced changes in the expression of protein in rat uterus. New proteins have been expressed in uterus of adult cyclic females having ovary in-situ. The OVX females treated with CF showed altered uterine protein profile compared with that of OVX control and OVX estradiol-17β （E2） treated rats. The CF exerted its effect on expression of uterine protein during early gestation period in rats. While uterine proteins of CF treated females were similar to that of controls during preimplantation period; many of the proteins on day 6 of gestation have been found either missing or expressed in lesser intensity.Conclusion The root of Polygonum hydropiper contains potential compound（s） which can alter the reproductive performance of female rats modulating uterine protein expression.

An exact solution to the problem of an MHD transient flow with Hall current past a uniformly accelerated horizontal porous plate in a rotating system has been presented. The dimensionless governing equations of the flow problem are solved by Laplacetransform technique in closed form. A uniform magnetic field is assumed to be applied transversely to the direction of the flow. The expressions for velocity fields and skin-frictions are obtained in non-dimensional form. The primary and secondary velocity distributions and skin-frictions at the plate due to primary and secondary velocity field are demonstrated graphically and the effects of the different parameters namely, rotational parameter, Hartmann number, Hall parameter and acceleration parameter are discussed and the results are physically interpreted.

Multi-criteria spatial modeling is one of the important components of spatial decision support system (SDSS). Multi-criteria spatial modeling often requires a common scale of values for diverse and dissimilar inputs to create an integrated analysis. Weighted overlay function is most commonly used for site suitability analysis which identifies the most preferred locations for a specific phenomenon. However, weighted overlay function gives inconsistent and erroneous results for highly dissimilar inputs as it assumes that most favorable factors result in the higher values of raster, while identifying the best sites. This paper conveys the effectiveness of fuzzy overlay function for multi-criteria spatial modeling. It is based on the principle of fuzzy logic theory which defines membership using Gaussian function on each of the input rasters instead of giving individual rank to them like in weighted overlay function. A case study on preparation of land resources map for Mawsynram block of East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, India is presented here. It was observed that fuzzy overlay function has given more satisfactory output in terms of site suitability while comparing with the result of weighted overlay function.

Functional Diversity: An Important Measure of Ecosystem Functioning

Functional diversity is a component of biodiversity that generally covers the range of functional traits of microorganisms prevailing in an ecosystem. Functional diversity is of high ecological importance because it is capable of influencing several aspects of ecosystem functioning like ecosystem dynamics, stability, nutrient availability, etc. Functional diversity of a community can be measured by functional richness and evenness. Functional richness refers to the number of species inhabiting a particular niche and functional evenness reveals how evenly the species are being distributed. Increase or decrease in functional richness and evenness simultaneously increases and decreases the functional diversity respectively. Decrease in functional richness and evenness decreases the ecosystem productivity and stability which ultimately decreases functional diversity of the same ecosystem. The effects of functional diversity on the productivity of an ecosystem can be quantitatively explained by the sampling effect model and the niche differentiation model. There are other proposed mechanisms like Niche complementarity and species redundancy relating functional diversity with ecosystem functioning. Rivets and idiosyncratic models relate functional diversity and species richness with ecosystem functioning. By considering the above proposed models on ecosystem functioning, it can be considered that functional diversity is a principal component of ecosystem functioning. So it can be assumed that, knowledge about a particular ecosystem reveals its richness and evenness which enable an individual knowing about the diversity of functional traits prevailing in the ecosystem. Thus, it opens up a new way in understanding and carrying out ecology related studies more efficiently and precisely in ecosystem.

In this paper, we define Sumudu transform with convergence conditions in bicomplex space. Also, we derive some of its basic properties and its inverse. Applications of bicomplex Sumudu transform are illustrated to find the solution of differential equation of bicomplex-valued functions and find the solution for Cartesian transverse electric magnetic （TEM） waves in homogeneous space.

Quality poultry meat depends upon the feed and as such there are many commercially available feeds. However, their composition and standard by and large throughout the year may not remain same due to obvious reasons. Moreover, there is no mention of locally produced feed particularly in the north eastern part of India. The major objective of this study was to prepare mesh feed E1 with the available ingredients as well as their effect were compared with that of the two commercially available feed Amrit and Godrej (E2 and E3) in terms of Crude protein, fats and element composition. The findings showed that the protein content (240 g/kg) and fats (105 g/kg) in the breast muscle of female was higher in the E3 received against the broiler chicken received local feed. Element analysis of the E1, E2 and E3 depicted significantly higher value of Ca, K, Cu Zn and Se against the commercial feed. Other elements like Mg, Na, Fe, P, and Mn showed no variation while compared E1, E2 and E3 together. Thus the present findings suggest that the local feed E1 could be accepted at per with that of the commercial feed for poultry.
