To explore the potential of conventional image processing techniques in the classification of cervical cancer cells, in this work, a co-occurrence histogram method was employed for image feature extraction and an ensemble classifier was developed by combining the base classifiers, namely, the artificial neural network(ANN),random forest(RF), and support vector machine(SVM), for image classification. The segmented pap-smear cell image dataset was constructed by the k-means clustering technique and used to evaluate the performance of the ensemble classifier which was formed by the combination of above considered base classifiers. The result was also compared with that achieved by the individual base classifiers as well as that trained with color, texture, and shape features. The maximum average classification accuracy of 93.44% was obtained when the ensemble classifier was applied and trained with co-occurrence histogram features, which indicates that the ensemble classifier trained with co-occurrence histogram features is more suitable and advantageous for the classification of cervical cancer cells.

Fraudulent labeling and adulteration are the major concerns in the global rice *** all the paddy varieties being sold in the market are prone to *** is very difficult to differentiate paddy grains of various varieties in the mixed bulk sample based on visual ***,there is no sophisticated appearance-based commercial scale technology to reliably detect and quantify adulteration in bulk paddy grain *** paper presents a cost-effective image processing technique for the recognition of adulteration and classification of adulteration levels(%)from the images of adulterated bulk paddy samples using state-of-the-art color and texture *** this work,seven adulterated bulk paddy samples are considered and each of the samples is prepared by mixing a premium paddy variety with the identical looking and commercially inferior paddy variety at five different adulteration levels(weight ratios)of 10%,15%,20%,25%and 30%.The study compares the performances of three different classification models,namely,Multilayer Back Propagation Neural Network(BPNN),Support Vector Machine(SVM)and k-Nearest Neighbor(k-NN).The Principal Component Analysis(PCA)and Sequential Forward Floating Selection(SFFS)methods have been employed separately for the automatic selection of optimal feature subsets from the combined color and texture *** maximum average adulteration level classification accuracy of 93.31%is obtained using the BPNN classification model trained with PCA-based reduced *** proposed technique can be used as an economic,rapid,non-destructive and quantitative technique for testing adulteration,authenticity,and quality of bulk paddy grain samples.

On-time recognition and early control of the stresses in the paddy crops at the booting growth stage is the key to prevent qualitative and quantitative loss of agricultural *** conventional paddy crop stress recognition and classification activities invariably rely on human experts identifying visual symptoms as a means of *** process is admittedly subjective and error-prone,which in turn can lead to incorrect actions being taken in stress management *** work presented in this paper aims to design a deep convolutional neural network(DCNN)framework for automatic recognition and classification of various biotic and abiotic paddy crop stresses using the field *** has adopted the pre-trained VGG-16 CNN model for the automatic classification of stressed paddy crop images captured during the booting growth *** trained models achieve an average accuracy of 92.89%on the held-out dataset,demonstrating the technical feasibility of using the deep learning approach utilizing 30,000 field images of 5 different paddy crop varieties with 12 different stress categories(including healthy/normal).The proposed work finds applications in developing the decision support systems and mobile applications for automating the field crop and resource management practices.

Successful endovascular treatment of endoscopically unmanageable hemorrhage from a duodenal ulcer fed by a renal artery: A case report

A 52-year-old woman was admitted with hypovolemic shock. Emergency endoscopy revealed three hemorrhagic duodenal ulcers(all stage A1) with exposed vessels. Two ulcers were successfully treated by endoscopic clipping; however, the remaining ulcer on the posterior wall of the horizontal portion of the duodenum could not be clipped. Because her vital signs were rapidly worsening, we performed transcatheter arterial embolization(TAE) as it is less invasive than surgery. Computed tomography aortography showed that the duodenal hemorrhage was sourced from the lower branch of the right renal artery. In general, the duodenum is fed by branches from the gastroduodenal artery or superior mesenteric artery. However, this patient had three right renal arteries. The lower branch of the right renal artery at the L3 vertebral level was at the same level as the horizontal portion of the duodenum. Complete hemostasis was achieved by TAE using metallic coils and n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate. After TAE, she recovered from the hypovolemic shock and was discharged from hospital. She has had no recurrence of the hemorrhagic duodenal ulcer for over 1 yr, and followup endoscopy showed no necrosis or stricture of the duodenum. Although she developed a small infarct of her right kidney, her renal function was satisfactory. In summary, the present case is the first reported case of hemorrhagic duodenal ulcer in which the culprit vessel was a renal artery that was successfully treated by TAE. Computed tomography aortography before TAE provides valuable information regarding the source of a duodenal hemorrhage.

We report the case of a 69-year-old woman with reactive lymphoid hyperplasia(RLH) of the *** underwent partial hepatectomy under a preoperative diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma; however,histopathological analysis revealed *** liver nodule showed the imaging feature of perinodular enhancement in the arterial dominant phase on contrast-enhanced computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging,which could be a useful clue for identifying RLH in the ***,the perinodular enhancement was compatible with prominent sinusoidal dilatation surrounding the liver nodule.

We report a patient with hyperplastic polyposis who had two asynchronous colon cancers, a combined adenoma-hyperplastic polyp, a serrated adenoma, and tubular adenomas. Hyperplastic polyposis is thought to be a precancerous lesion; and adenocarcinoma arises from hyperplastic polyposis through the hyperplastic polyp-adenoma-carcinoma sequence. Most polyps in patients with hyperplastic polyposis present as bland- looking hyperplastic polyps, which are regarded as non- neoplastic lesions; however, the risk of malignancy should not be underestimated. In patients with multiple hyperplastic polyps, hyperplastic polyposis should be identified and followed up carefully in order to detect malignant transformation in the early stage.

An Unexpected Complication by Misplacement of an External Ventricular Drain;Transient Oculomotor Palsy Due to Direct Compression by a Drain—A Case Report

Background: Insertion of an external ventricular drain (EVD) is an important neurosurgical technique. There is a minor risk of misplacement, and complications including infections or hemorrhages have been reported. Transient neurological complications are, however, very rare, especially when EVD is placed under endoscope assistance. We report a case of unilateral transient oculomotor palsy after an EVD procedure. Case presentation: An 11-year-old boy with past medical history of moyamoya disease suffered from intraventricular hemorrhage and acute hydrocephalus. Insertion of EVD and hematoma removal was performed with endoscope assistance. After the surgery, transient oculomotor palsy occurred by the direct compression of the brain stem by the drainage tube. Conclusion: Transient unilateral oculomotor palsy due to the direct compression of the midbrain by an EVD tube is a very rare, but possible complication, even under endoscopic assistance. Attention through the procedure is required until skin closure to avoid tube dislocation.

Maize is one of the most important cereal crops in Sub-Saharan Africa and an important source of energy for humans. However, the difference in the dedifferentiation frequency of immature embryos among various genotypes indicates that callus induction and genetic transformation is dependent on the genotype. This phenomenon is an impediment in the fundamental process of improving tropical maize germplasm especially through genetic engineering. Here, five tropical maize （Zea mays L.） genotypes, CML 216, CML 144, A 04, E 04 and TL 21, were evaluated for callus induction on MS medium supplemented with the growth regulator dicamba. Embryogenic and non embryogenic callus induction was independent ofgenotype when young immature embryos, 12 days after pollination （DAP） were used for tissue culture in combination with dicamba. The optimal concentration of dicamba for induction ofembryogenic callus in all the genotypes was 3 mg/L, which was also the concentration at which non embryogenic callus formation was lowest. The frequency of embryogenic callus induction ranged from 35% to 79% among the five genotypes and somatic embryos regenerated R0 shoots that produced normal R1 progenies. This regeneration method is expected to facilitate the development of a more efficient genotype independent Agrobacterium- mediated transformation system for tropical inbred lines.

Stretching from the plains to the mountains, Beijing’s villages all have their own special and different characteristics. Some originated as coal mining or trading villages. Others quarried stone for a living or sold kindling. Some functioned as post towns, guardians of tombs or defenders of mountain, river and canal crossings. Villages also grew up around important temples or tea stalls along important roads or pilgrim paths. Imperial order founded villages to serve as builders of forts or to produce pottery and tiles. This great variety in the rural scene around the capital reflects not only the diverse geographical landscape, but the importance these hamlets had in the history of Beijing.
