Contemporary construction in historical sites:The missing factors

Historical sites(HSs)are akin to living entities,and their existence is perpetuated through the erection of new buildings or *** HSs need sustainable development and new construction,as existing monuments fail to meet contemporary user *** the urgent demand,many new buildings within HSs have been constructed without considering the influencing factors on contextual value,built,and natural *** oversight has led to irreversible damage to their historical *** studies have independently explored interventions,construction,and development within ***,there is a conspicuous absence of comprehensive research that concurrently addresses these issues while preserving the intrinsic value of the *** study aims to identify the variables and factors contributing to the successful design and construction of new buildings within HSs,satisfying user needs,conserving contextual values,and achieving sustainability with the natural and built *** research employs a mixed-method approach,gathering raw data through literature reviews,case studies,and expert *** study population comprised 97 experts in architectural heritage conservation and sustainable *** factor analysis was utilized for data analysis,leading to the identification of influential *** study highlights the significance of the location,function,scale,form,material,skyline,viewpoint,accessibility,reversibility,topography,sustainability,technology,structural system,lifespan,and interior design in constructing new buildings within a ***,the design of new additions should adhere to five guiding principles:integrated design,volume design,green design,compatible design,and modern *** this context,the new structures will fulfill user needs,preserve or enhance contextual values,and harmonize with the built and natural environment.

Assessment of rehabilitation strategies for lakes affected by anthropogenic and climatic changes: A case study of the Urmia Lake, Iran

Recognition of defensive factors in the architectural heritage of Iran’s organic ancient shelters

In ancient Iran, in addition to defensive elements such as castles, fortresses, and fortifications, there were underground cities called dastkand. These cities had a shelter-protection function and provided safe space to protect residents when enemies attacked. In the scope of dastkand architectural studies, form typology, land-use typology, and provision of thermal comfort have been investigated in various studies but there is no study on dastkand defensive architecture, which is the main purpose of the present research. The research method is a mixed method (qualitative-quantitative). The required data are collected through a survey and then, analyzed using factor analysis in R method. The statistical population includes Iranian architectural heritage specialists and the sample size is estimated to be 165 persons. Sampling adequacy is confirmed based on the results of KMO test. The samples are selected using a non-probability sampling method. The obtained results indicate that ten factors have been effective in the architecture of Iran’s ancient organic shelters. In order from largest to smallest coefficient of variance, the factors include collective defense, multi-layered defense, environmental camouflage, path control, self-sufficiency, secret passage, sustainable architecture, residential values, covert surveillance, and cluster development.

Thermal treatment effect on structural features of mechano-synthesized fluorapatite-titania nanocomposite: A comparative study

The influence of thermal treatment on the structural features of mechano-synthesized fluorapatite-titania composite nanopowders was studied.A mixture of calcium and phosphate reagents was mixed with a certain amount of titania(20 wt%)and then was mechanically activated for 5 h,10 h and 15 h *** that,the mechano-synthesized powders were annealed at 700℃for 2 *** crystallite size of the composite nanopowders estimated from Williamson-Hall method was in good agreement with transmission electron microscopy(TEM)*** electron microscopy(SEM)/TEM images confirmed the formation of a cluster-like composite which was composed of ellipse-like nanoparticles with an average size of about 16±7 nm after 15 h of *** the milling process,large variations in mechanochemical behavior of the CaHPO_(4)-Ca(OH)_(2)-CaF2-TiO_(2) system were *** the beginning of milling,no trace of the composite was found due to the lack of sufficient time for the mechanical *** the mechanical activation time increased to 15 h,composite nanopowders with the crystallite size of around 21.66 nm were *** heating at 700℃,the recovery of crystallinity occurred and the fraction of crystalline phase reached a maximum around 88.79%for the 10-h milled *** indicated that the structural features of the composite were strongly influenced by the subsequent annealing.

An investigation on the strain accumulation of the lightly EICP-cemented sands under cyclic traffic loads

Industrial production of chemical cement leads to extreme emissions of greenhouse *** or bioinspired sustainable materials for soil treatment projects can be employed instead of chemical cement to heal the carbon cycle in the *** enzyme-induced calcite precipitation(EICP)method is one of the novel bio-inspired technologies that can be employed in soil treatment projects to increase desired properties of *** the monotonic and cyclic behavior of the enzymatically treated sands has been investigated comprehensively,the strain accumulation pattern in these improved soils under cyclic traffic loads has not been evaluated *** this paper,confined and unconfined cyclic compression tests are applied to the enzymatically lightly cemented sands,and the effects of the different parameters on their strain accumulation pattern are investigated for the first time in the *** study uses two types of specimens with unconfined compression strengths(UCS)equal to 42 kPa and 266 *** is shown that the treated specimens have a rate-dependent behavior where cyclic loads with low frequencies lead to more resilient and plastic strains in the *** results show that by approaching the maximum applied stresses to the UCS of the specimens(by breaking more calcite bonds between sand particles),the rate dependency behavior of specimens will *** of the effects of the cementation level demonstrated that by increasing the amount of the precipitated calcite from 0.38%to 0.83%,accumulated plastic strains are reduced almost 95%under the same loading *** of the initial static loads,confining pressures,the number of cycles,and amplitudes of the cyclic loads are also evaluated.

Influences of the fluidizing and spouting pulsation on particle motion in spout-fluid beds

Effects of variable airflow on particle motion in spout-fluid beds are studied. Computational fluid dynam- ics using Navier-Stokes equations for the gas phase coupled with the discrete element method using Newton＇s laws for the solid phase have been employed. Results indicate that increasing the fluidizing velocity diminishes dead zones and increases both the total height of the bed and the traversed distance by particles in the steady spout-fluid bed. In pulsed airfows, two configurations are investigated, namely, the spouted pulsed-fluidized bed with pulsed flow of the fluidizing velocity, and the pulsed-spouted flu- idized bed with pulsed flow of the spouting velocity. The positive effect of pulsation on particle motion is shown and the effects of parameters, such as amplitude and frequency, on the dynamics of the bed are investigated in each configuration. An increase of up to 19% in traversed distance is found for the range studied, which suggests flow pulsation as a promising technique for increasing particle mixing in spout-fluid beds.

Characterization of mechanothermal-synthesized hydroxyapatite-magnesium titanate composite nanopowders

Hydroxyapatite-magnesium titanate composite nanopowders have been developed using a mechanothermal *** treatment of the milled powders at 700℃resulted in the formation of HAp/MgTiO_(3)-MgO nanocomposite.X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX)techniques were utilized to characterize the synthesized *** results revealed that the dominant phases after mechanical activation were hydroxyapatite,anatase(TiO_(2))and periclase(MgO);while after thermal annealing process at 700℃,hydroxyapatite along with geikielite(MgTiO_(3))and periclase(MgO)were the major *** on the XRD analysis,the evaluation of structural features of the samples indicated that the average crystallite sizes of hydroxyapatite after 10 h of milling and subsequent thermal treatment at 700℃were about 21 nm and 34 nm,*** observations illustrated that the synthesized powders contained large agglomerates which consisted of significantly finer particles with spheroidal *** is concluded that the mechanothermal method can be used to produce hydroxyapatite-based nanocomposite with appropriate structural and morphological features.

Supply chain network design under uncertainty with new insights from contracts

In this paper, the classical problem of supply chain network design is reconsidered to emphasize the role of contracts in uncertain environments. The supply chain addressed consists of four layers: suppliers, manufacturers, warehouses, and customers acting within a single period. The single owner of the manufacturing plants signs a contract with each of the suppliers to satisfy demand from downstream. Available contracts consist of long-term and option contracts, and unmet demand is satisfied by purchasing from the spot market. In this supply chain, customer demand, supplier capacity, plants and warehouses, transportation costs, and spot prices are uncertain. Two models are proposed here: a risk-neutral two-stage stochastic model and a risk-averse model that considers risk measures. A solution strategy based on sample average approximation is then proposed to handle large scale problems. Extensive computational studies prove the important role of contracts in the design process, especially a portfolio of contracts. For instance, we show that long-term contract alone has similar impacts to having no contracts, and that option contract alone gives inferior results to a combination of option and long-term contracts. We also show that the proposed solution methodology is able to obtain good quality solutions for large scale problems.

Mechanochemical preparation and structural characterization of Ta-doped chlorapatite nanopowders

Nanocrystalline tantalum-doped chlorapatite（Ta-doped ClA） was successfully synthesized using a facile mechanochemical method. In the absence of the dopant, milling for 3 h led to the formation of a poorly crystalline hydroxyapatite, while in its presence of the Ta dopant, Ta-doped ClA nanopowders were produced as a result of an oncoming reaction. The results indicated that lattice micro-strain, crystallite size, crystallinity level, phase percentage and hexagonal lattice constants of the substituted apatite nanopowders were dramatically affected by the doping concentration. The a-axis and unit cell volume increased with the increase in the doping concentration, owing to the ionic radius difference of Cl;and OH;ions. From the TEM observations, the doped powders consisted of nanoneedles with a mean size of 60 ± 20 nm in length and 14 ±4 nm in width.
