Ischaemic heart disease(IHD)is a major cause of morbidity and mortality *** there have been major advances in this field,these patients are still a higher risk *** such,strategies to mitigate risk and tailor secondary prevention measures are of the utmost *** rehabilitation(Cr),encompassing several domains including exercise training,cardiovascular risk factor optimization,nutritional and psychological assessments,as well as other ancillary interventions has shown to be one of the pillars in the contemporary management of patients with ***,Cr is associated with several benefits in this population,ranging from functional capacity to improvements in *** this,there are still several issues concerning the optimal application of Cr which are still not fully ascertained,such as lack of referral and completion,as well as questions related to programme design(particularly among patients with multiple comorbidities).In this review,we aim at presenting a pragmatic overview on the current role of Cr in the management of individuals with IHD,while also discussing some of the caveats in the current data,as well as future concepts which could help improve the uptake and personalization of this pivotal time-tested intervention.

Efflux Pumps Modulation in Colorectal Adenocarcinoma Cell Lines: The role of Nuclear Medicine

Introduction: Multidrug resistance (MDr) is one of the major problems of chemotherapy. Overexpression of efflux pumps, such as P-glycoprotein (Pgp), multiple resistance-related protein 1 (MrP-1) and lung resistance protein (LrP) can lead to MDr. Verapamil and L-buthionine-sulfoximine (BSO) are two modulators of these proteins. This study aims to compare 99mTc-Sestamibi transport kinetics in human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines, in the presence and absence of the MDr modulators verapamil and BSO. Material and Methods: MDr proteins expression was evaluated in sensitive (WiDr) and resistant (LS1034) human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines. Intracellular and plasma membrane Pgp and MrP1, and LrP expression was analyzed by flow-cytometry and western blot. Cellular transport kinetics was assessed using 99mTc-Sestamibi. MDr modulation was evaluated though retention studies in resistant cells after incubation with the modulators. results: Pgp expression was significantly higher (p≤0.001) in resistant cells. These results were confirmed by western blot analysis. 99mTc-Sestamibi uptake and retention percentage were significantly higher (p99mTc-Sestamibi, there were differences among the MDr modulators used (p99mTc-Sestamibi could indicate MDr phenotype in colorectal adenocarcinoma cells. As the modulators used showed a reversion of the retention profile only for the first minutes, their administration should occur immediately before the administration of cytotoxic drugs.

Characteristics of Vertical Distributions of Fatty Acids in Surface Sediments of the Yellow Sea and East China Sea

Fatty acids(FAs) in sediment collected from three different stations in the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea were analyzed for their distributions and to determine evidence of harmful algal blooms in the sediment *** diverse FAs were found in the Yellow Sea(YS) station,whereas in the two stations of the East China Sea(ECS) the FAs were more *** of some FA species in the two ECS stations displayed an occasional surge in their vertical *** highest concentration of FAs was found in the surface layer of station QT3(43.28 μg g^(-1)).Monounsaturated FAs were more susceptible to degradation compared to their saturated counterparts,and changes of 16:0,18:2 and 20:5 accounted for the most variability in total concentrations of FAs as those species made up most of the quantified *** origins of the major fraction of FAs were attributed to autotrophic sources,and bacterial FAs accounted for only a small fraction of the total FAs in the *** availability was a possible regulating factor controlling bacteria abundances in marine sediments in the ECS and the YS.A principal component analysis(PCA) was applied to analyze the FA dataset and to reveal the principal environmental factors that control the composition of FAs in the ***2,which explains 15% of the variance,was estimated to reflect the diagenetic effects on the FA compositional changes in sediments influenced by bacterial degradation.

Urban Air Quality Plans and Integrated Assessment Methodologies

The air quality directive （2008/50/EC （of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 May 2008）） requires European Member States to design appropriate AQPs （air quality plans） for zones and agglomerations where the air quality does not comply with the limit values and to assess possible emission reduction measures to decrease concentration levels. The Portuguese agglomeration of Porto Litoral is one of the several European Union urban areas that had to develop and implement AQPs to reduce particulate matter （PM10）. The AQPs were initially designed based on a scenario approach and using an air quality model, which was applied over the study region for the reference situation with the current PM10 emissions, and for a reduction scenario with PM10 emissions re-estimated considering the implementation of abatement measures. Aiming to cost-efficiently optimize Porto Litoral PM10 abatement measures, the assessment procedure was repeated using an optimization approach based on the rIAT ＋（regional integrated assessment tool ＋）. Porto Litoral urban area＇s technical and non-technical measures were characterized （including associated costs） and, through the application of the air quality model to 20 emissions abatement scenarios, S-r （source-receptor） relationships were created. This paper comparatively describes the air quality plans designed to improve PM10 levels in the Porto Litoral agglomeration based on both the scenario analysis and the optimization approach.

BACKGrOUND The evaluation of periportal fibrosis(PPF)is essential for a prognostic assessment of patients with Schistosomiasis *** WHO Niamey Protocol defines patterns of fibrosis from abdominal ultrasonography,^(1)H-nuclear magnetic resonance(NMr)-based metabonomics has been employed to assess liver fibrosis in some *** To build 1H-NMr-based metabonomics models(MM)to discriminate mild from significant periportal PPF and identify differences in the metabolite *** A prospective cross-sectional study was performed on schistosomiasis patients at a University Hospital in Northeastern *** evaluated 41 serum samples from 10 patients with mild PPF(C Niamey pattern)and 31 patients with significant PPF(D/E/F Niamey patterns).MM were built using partial least squares-discriminant analysis(PLS-DA)and orthogonal projections to latent structures discriminant analysis(OPLS-DA)*** PLS-DA and OPLS-DA resulted in discrimination between mild and significant PPF groups with r2 and Q2 values of 0.80 and 0.38 and 0.72 and 0.42 for each model,*** OPLS-DA model presented accuracy,sensitivity,and specificity values of 92.7%,90.3%,and 100%to discriminate significant *** metabolites identified as responsible by discrimination were:Nacetylglucosamines,alanine,glycolaldehyde,carbohydrates,and *** MMs discriminated mild from significant PPF patterns in patients with Schistosomiasis mansoni through identification of differences in serum metabolites profiles.

Tree Crown Variation and Seasonal in the Phenolic Compounds Content of Stryphnodendron adstringens(Mart)Coville Leaves

The aim of this study was to compare phenolic compounds contents between different positions within the crown and between collection periods, and to evaluate the tannin contents by the Folin-Ciocalteu method. The collections were performed in Lavras, in the southern region of the Brazilian state Minas Gerais. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design (factorial 3 × 4);the first factor being the position (base, middle, top);and the months, the second factor (February, May, September and December). We verified that the leaves of S. adstringens present higher total phenolic and tannin contents at the top (23.05% and 18.23%) and base (21.42% and 16.61%) of the crown, in May (25.79% and 20.85%) and September (25.57% and 20.50%), respectively. There was no difference in the residual phenol and flavonoid contents between the positions within the crown or in the months of collection. These facts suggest that within the crown and climatic changes may be one of the factors affecting phenol levels in Stryphnodendron adstringens.

Factors That Influence the Choice of Dialysis Modality in the Elderly

This study aimed to identify the influencing factors on choice of dialysis modality in patients aged 60 years or more and the barriers and/or facilitators in the decision-making process. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted involving patients undergoing renal replacement therapy for at least three months. Of the 55 patients included, 35 (64%) were under medical care before starting dialysis. The majority of patients, 55% (30), reported being consulted regarding the type of dialysis they would like. The most chosen therapy was hemodialysis with physician indication being the most influencing factor on the choice of dialysis modality. Visual and mobility problems were those principally reported by the elderly participants. This study suggests the need for greater pre-dialysis participation by the multidisciplinary team and emphasizes the importance of patient involvement in the decision-making process.
