nutritional status expresses the physiological and nutritional needs to maintain the composition and adequate functioning of the organism. nRS 2002 and MnA protocols were applied to short-term institutionalized patients in Rio Verde (Brazil). Older adults and people with special needs of all ages, both sexes, regardless of possible pathology they may have, except if it causes contagion, were included, patients duly authorized by the person responsible for the institution and who were able to undergo evaluation. Thirty-eight patients from the institution were evaluated, of which ten were excluded from the research according to pre-established criteria. More than 50% of participants were male, with an overall average age of 63.43 years. The characteristics related to nutritional status by nRS 2002 and MnA showed that the risk of malnutrition and its absence are associated with a wide age range. The MnA presents a more nuanced nutritional risk classification, showing that even 61% of the 96% of participants who would be out of nutrition risk, according to the nRS 2002, are “at risk of malnutrition”. Applying the MnA can demonstrate more conservative results than the nRS 2002.

The study of the propagation of infectious diseases in urban centers finds a close connection with their population's social characteristics and *** work performs a spatial analysis of dengue cases in urban centers based on the basic reproduction numbers,R0,and incidence by planning areas(pAs),as well as their correlations with the Human Development Index(HDI)and the number of *** analyzed dengue epidemics in 2002 at two Brazilian urban centers,Belo Horizonte(BH)and Rio de Janeiro(RJ),using pAs as spatial *** results reveal heterogeneous spatial scenarios for both cities,with very weak correlations between R0 and both the number of trips and the HDI;in BH,the values of R0 show a less spatial heterogeneous pattern than in *** BH,there are moderate correlations between incidence and both the number of trips and the HDI;meanwhile,they weakly correlate for ***,the absence of strong correlations between the considered measures indicates that the transmission process should be treated considering the city as a whole.

Hepatocyte nuclear factor 1 alpha(HnF1A),hepatocyte nuclear factor 4 alpha(HnF4A),and forkhead box protein A2(FOXA2)are key transcription factors that regulate a complex gene network in the liver,cre-ating a regulatory transcriptional *** Encode and chIp-Atlas databases identify the recognition sites of these transcription factors in many glycosyltransferase *** in silico analysis of HnF1A,*** FOXA2 binding to the ten candidate glyco-genes studied in this work confirms a significant enrich-ment of these transcription factors specifically in the *** previous studies identified HnF1A as a master regulator of fucosylation,glycan branching,and galactosylation of plasma ***,we aimed to functionally validate the role of the three transcription factors on downstream glyco-gene transcriptional expression and the possible effect on glycan *** used the state-of-the-art clus-tered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/dead Cas9(CRISpR/dCas9)molecular tool for the downregulation of the HnF1A,HnF4A,and FOXA2 genes in HepG2 cells-a human liver cancer cell *** results show that the downregulation of all three genes individually and in pairs affects the transcrip-tional activity of many glyco-genes,although downregulation of glyco-genes was not always followed by an unambiguous change in the corresponding glycan *** effect is better seen as an overall change in the total HepG2 n-glycome,primarily due to the extension of biantennary *** propose an alternative way to evaluate the n-glycome composition via estimating the overall complexity of the glycome by quantifying the number of monomers in each glycan *** also propose a model showing feedback loops with the mutual activation of HnF1A-FOXA2 and HnF4A-FOXA2 affecting glyco-genes and protein glycosylation in HepG2 cells.

The Amazon basin has experienced an extreme drought that started in the austral summer of 2022-23 and extends into 2024. This drought started earlier than other previous droughts. Although some rain fell during the austral summer, totals remained below average. Higher temperatures during austral winter and spring 2023, which affected most of Central South America, then aggravated drought conditions. This coincided with an intense El niño and abnormally warm tropical north Atlantic Ocean temperatures since mid-2023. Decreased rainfall across the Amazon basin, negative anomalies in evapotranspiration (derived from latent heat) and soil moisture indicators, as well as increased temperatures during the dry-to-wet transition season, September-October-november (SOn) 2023, combined to delay the onset of the wet season in the hydrological year 2023-24 by nearly two months and caused it to be uncharacteristically weak. SOn 2023 registered a precipitation deficit of the order of 50 to 100 mm/month, and temperatures +3˚C higher than usual in Amazonia, leading to reduced evapotranspiration and soil moisture indicators. These processes, in turn, determined an exceptionally late onset and a lengthening of the dry season, affecting the 2023-2024 hydrological year. These changes were aggravated by a heat wave from June to December 2023. Drought-heat compound events and their consequences are the most critical natural threats to society. River levels reached record lows, or dried up completely, affecting Amazonian ecosystems. Increased risk of wildfires is another concern exacerbated by these conditions.

Epithelioid sarcoma(ES), a mesenchymatous malign neoformation, is often diagnosed in later stages and associated with high recurrence index, metastasis and mortality. We report a case of a 65 years old male, with history of abdominal pain and upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Endoscopy demonstrated a posterior duodenal wall perforation communicating with a solid retroperitoneal neoformation. Endoscopic biopsy was performed, with a final report of ES. The patient was submitted for surgical palliation due to the tumor's unresectability. Retroperitoneal ES is an extremely rare condition with limited reports in the literature where guidelines for its optimal treatment are not well established.

Herpes zoster(HZ) infection occurs in approximately 10% to 30% of individuals. Visceral neuropathies secondary to HZ can cause cystitis and urinary retention. But colonic pseudo-obstruction can also occur. peripheral neuropathy may reveal segmental motor paresis of either upper or lower limbs, the abdominal muscles or the diaphragm. We report the case of a 62-year-old male patient who presented with abdominal distention and cutaneous vesicular eruption on the left side of the abdominal wall. plain X-rays and computed tomography scan showed distended small bowel. A diagnosis of intestinal pseudo-obstruction was made secondary to segmental paresis of the small intestine and visceral neuropathy. Conservative management was successful and the patient was discharged uneventfully. Intestinal pseudo-obstruction ought to be consideredwhen dealing with non-obstructive(adynamic) conditions of the digestive tract associated with HZ infection; since early recognition may help to avoid unnecessary surgery.

nitrification inhibitors are widely used in agriculture to mitigate nitrous oxide(n_(2)O)emission and increase crop ***,no concrete information on their mitigation of n_(2)O emission is available under soil and environmental conditions as in pakistan.A field experiment was established using a silt clay loam soil from peshawar,pakistan,to study the effect of urea applied in combination with a nitrification inhibitor,nitrapyrin(2-chloro-6-tri-chloromethyl pyridine),and/or a plant growth regulator,gibberellic acid(GA_3),on n_(2)O emission and the nitrogen(n)uptake efficiency of *** experimental design was a randomized complete block with five treatments in four replicates:control with no n(CK),urea(200 kg n ha^(-1))alone,urea in combination with nitrapyrin(700 g ha^(-1)),urea in combination with GA_3(60 g ha^(-1)),and urea in combination with nitrapyrin and GA_*** n_(2)O emission,yield,n response efficiency,and total n uptake were measured during the experimental *** treatment with urea and nitrapyrin reduced total n_(2)O emission by 39%–43%and decreased yield-scaled n_(2)O emission by 47%–52%,relative to the treatment with urea *** maize plant biomass,grain yield,and total n uptake increased significantly by 23%,17%,and 15%,respectively,in the treatment with urea and nitrapyrin,relative to the treatment with urea alone,which was possibly due to n saving,lower n loss,and increased n uptake in the form of ammonium;they were further enhanced in the treatment with urea,nitrapyrin,and GA_3 by 27%,36%,and 25%,respectively,probably because of the stimulating effect of GA_3 on plant growth and development and the reduction in biotic and abiotic *** results suggest that applying urea in combination with nitrapyrin and GA_3 has the potential to mitigate n_(2)O emission,improve n response efficiency,and increase maize yield.

盘状星系中的棒结构特征与星系自身所处环境及整体恒星形成特征之间存在复杂的相互关系。利用细致的星系形态特征测量计划Galaxy Zoo DECaLS中的数据构建了一组目前最大的具有同样恒星质量分布的强棒、弱棒和无棒星系样本。通过引入星系所处暗晕质量及相空间特征来控制星系所处的环境效应之后,进一步对比研究强棒、弱棒和无棒星系的恒星形成特征。研究表明,有棒星系中的恒星形成熄灭的比例系统地高于无棒星系,且强棒的效应更为明显。但是,对于仍处于恒星形成主序上的星系来说,强棒、弱棒和无棒星系的恒星形成特征并没有显著差别。以上结果表明,星系中的棒特征在其存在的时标中可能使部分星系迅速地从恒星形成转入熄灭状态。

chitosan-based nanocarriers(CS-nCs)show a promising role in improving drugs and bioactive compounds delivery for ***,the effects exerted by CS-nCs at the cellular level,including their recognition and uptake,have not been fully investigated *** factors,including size,shape,concentration,and surface chemistry of CS-nCs,play an important role in determining the types of intracellular signals *** mechanism of uptake and the involvement of the cytoskeleton during the CS-nCs endocytosis variates among the different cell types as well as further effects observed inside *** the present work,we discuss the effects induced by CS-nCs per se on the cytoskeleton,a key component in cell architecture and *** focus of this report is made on tumoral and normal biological models in which CS-nCs could differentially affect the cell *** recent years reports regarding the impact of CS-nCs on cytoskeleton dynamics and the current techniques for its evaluation are summarized and *** mechanisms underlying cytoskeletal impact after cell exposure to CS-nCs is critical for the design of safest value-added formulations in the biomedical ***,this revision points out some interesting aspects of cytoskeletal changes and cell death encompassing anti-tumoral effects.
