anatomical, Histochemical and Cytogenetic Features of <i>Doryopteris triphylla</i>(Pteridaceae)

Doryopteris triphylla (Pteridaceae-Cheilanthoideae) grows in xeric habitats in Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina. The aim of this study was to characterize D. triphylla anatomically, histochemically and cytogenetically. For anatomical characterization, rhizomes, roots, petioles and leaves were made and then stained using Safranine-Astra Blue for further observations. Leaf blades were also cleared. For histochemical analysis, leaf cross sections were stained with different reagents to identify glandular trichomes compounds. For cytogenetic characterization, a karyogram was performed using laboratory cultivated roots. Results show a dictyostelic rhizome covered with scales with apical secreting gland;diarch roots;petiole cross-sections show thick cuticle, uniseriate epidermis, parenchymatic cortex cells with thick walls and a vascular bundle with two xylem groups;and hypostomatic fronds with glandular trichomes. Histochemical studies of secretion products of the glandular trichomes were positive for polysaccharides, pectins, lipids, acid lipids, dihydroxyphenols, phenols and flavonoids. Cytogenetically, D. triphylla is described as a diploid species (2n = 60), with chromosomes gradually decreasing in size. The apical glands in scales of rhizomes, the presence of two xylem groups in the vascular bundle in the petiole and the glandular trichomes on the abaxial surface are new contributions to the species. The type of chemical products secreted by glandular leaf trichomes and karyotype estimation is shown for the first time in this species.

BACKGROUND Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children(MIS-C) has emerged as a new disease associated with COVID-19 that presents in acute critically ill children with acute cardiovascular *** To determine whether the age-adjusted N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP) value(Z-log-NT-proBNP) is associated with severe MIS-C and myocardial *** A retrospective study was conducted which included children with MIS-C managed at our institution between April 1,2020,and February 28,*** divided the population into groups depending on severity based on pediatric intensive care unit(PICU) *** compared Z-log-NT-proBNP values across these groups and analyzed Z-log-NT-proBNP dynamics during the onemonth *** We included 17 participants [median age 3(2-9) years] and seven(41%) required PICU ***(100%) of these cases presented very high(Z-log > 4) levels of NT-proBNP at the time of admission compared to only 5(50%) patients with non-severe MIS-C(P = 0.025).NT-proBNP was significantly correlated with highsensitive Troponin I levels(P = 0.045),Ross modified score(P = 0.003) and left ventricle ejection fraction(P = 0.021).CONCLUSION Raised NT-proBNP,specifically very high values(Z-log-NT-proBNP > 4) could help in the early identification of MIS-C patients with myocardial dysfunction requiring inotropic support and PICU admission.

Influence of Pt/Ru anodic ratio on the valorization of ethanol by PEM electrocatalytic reforming towards value-added products

Clinical presentation and early predictors for poor outcomes in pediatric myocarditis:A retrospective study

BACKGROUND Myocarditis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in children, leading to long-term sequelae including chronic congestive heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy, heart transplantation, and death. The initial diagnosis of myocarditis is usually based on clinical presentation, but this widely ranges from the severe sudden onset of a cardiogenic shock to asymptomatic patients. Early recognition is essential in order to monitor and start supportive treatment prior to the development of severe adverse events. Of note, many cases of fulminant myocarditis are usually misdiagnosed as otherwise minor conditions during the weeks before the unexpected *** To provide diagnostic clues to make an early recognition of pediatric *** investigate early predictors for poor *** We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional single-center study from January 2008 to November 2017 at the Pediatric Department of our institution, including children analyzed different clinical features and diagnostic test findings in order to provide diagnostic clues for myocarditis in children. According to World Health Organization(WHO)estimates,in 2020,there were 1.8 million human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)-infected children below 15 years old living with HIV and 150,000 children who acquired the infection[1].Every year,110,000 children die as a consequence of acquired immune deficiency syndrome-related causes[2].As in adults,optimal management of infected children depends on early diagnosis and treatment with antiretroviral drugs based on their viral genotype.

T follicular helper expansion and humoral-mediated rejection are independent of the HVEM/BTLA pathway

The molecular pathways contributing to humoral-mediated allograft rejection are poorly defined. In this study, we assessed the role of the herpesvirus entry mediator/B- and T-lymphocyte attenuator （HVEM/BTLA） signalling pathway in the context of antibody-mediated allograft rejection. An experimental setting was designed to elucidate whether the blockade of HVEM/BTLA interactions could modulate de novo induction of host antidonor-specific antibodies during the course of graft rejection. To test this hypothesis, fully allogeneic major histocompatibility complex-mismatched skin grafts were transplanted onto the right flank of recipient mice that were treated with isotype control, anti-CD40L or modulatory antibodies of the HVEM/BTLA signalling pathway. The frequencies of CD4 T follicular helper （Tfh） cells （B220-, CD4＋ CXCR5＋ PD-lhigh）, extrafollicular helper cells （B220-, CD4＋ CXCR5- PD-1＋ and PD-1-） and germinal centre （GC） B cells （B220＋Fas＋ GL7＋） were analysed by flow cytometry in draining and non-draining lymph nodes at day 10 post transplantation during the acute phase of graft rejection. The host antidonor isotype-specific humoral immune response was also assessed. Whereas blockade of the CD40/CD40L pathway was highly effective in preventing the allogeneic humoral immune response, antibody-mediated blockade of the HVEM/BTLA-interacting pathway affected neither the expansion of Tfh cells nor the expansion of GC B cells. Consequently, the course of the host antidonor antibody-mediated response proceeded normally, without detectable evidence of impaired development. In summary, these data indicate that HVEM/BTLA interactions are dispensable for the formation of de novo host antidonor isotype-specific antibodies in transplantation.
