The potential.appl.cations of neural.stem cel.s (NSC) in the therapy of degenerative and traumatic diseases of the central.nervous system (CNS) have aroused great scientific interest. NSCs can be recovered from specific areas of the CNS from fetuses, embryos and from adul. brain as wel., and under appropriate cul.ure conditions, may be induced to differentiate into the three major neural.cel. types, neurons, astrocytes and ol.godendrocytes. The main neurogenic areas of mammal. are the subventricul.r zone (SVZ) and the dentate gyrus (DG) of the hippocampus, yet other areas of neurogenic potential.have been identified, incl.ding frontal.and parietal.cortices, hippocampus and l.teral.wal. of the l.teral.ventricl.. Neural.stem cel.s and differentiated neural.cel.s are usual.y identified by expression of specific markers, proteins that are expressed by different cel. types and/or at different stages of differentiation. The main cel. markers are nestin and Sox-2 for undifferentiated NSCs, beta-III tubul.n (B-III tubul.n) for neurons, Gal.ctocerebroside (Gal.) for ol.godendrocytes and Gl.al.fibril.ary acid protein (GFAP) for astrocytes. In general. the main neurogenic areas, the neurogenic potential.of NSC and the morphol.gical.and biol.gical.characteristics of differentiated neural.cel.s are strikingl. simil.r among species, yet some differences have been reported. This articl. presents a brief review of NSCs, neurogenic areas and techniques used for their identification and characterization in humans and experimental.animal..

AIM： To study the rol. of an insertion/del.tion pol.morphism in the pepsinogen C （PGC） gene, an effective marker for terminal.differentiation of the stomach mucosa, in the susceptibil.ty to the devel.pment of gastric l.sions. METHODS： The study was performed with 99 sampl.s of known gastric l.sions and 127 sampl.s without evidence of neopl.stic disease. PCR was empl.yed and the 6 pol.morphic al.el.s were ampl.fied： Al.el. 1 （510 bp）, Al.el. 2 （480 bp）, Al.el. 3/4 （450/460 bp）, Al.el. 5 （400 bp） and Al.el. 6 （310 bp）. RESUl.S： Our resul.s reveal.d that Al.el. 6 carriers seemed to have protection against the devel.pment of any gastric l.sion （OR = 0.34; P 〈 0.001）, non-dyspl.stic l.sions associated with gastric adenocarcinoma such as atrophy or intestinal.metapl.sia （OR = 0.28; P 〈 0.001） or invasive GC （OR = 0.39; P = 0.004）. CONCl.SION： Our study reveal. that the Al.el. 6 carrier status has a protective rol. in the devel.pment of gastric l.sions, probabl. due to its association with higher expression of PGC. Moreover, the frequency of Al.el. 6 carriers in the control.group is far higher than that obtained in Asian popul.tions, which might represent a genetic gap between Caucasian and Asian popul.tions.

This study aimed to characterize the peel.of jaboticaba(Myrciaria jaboticaba(Vel..)***)by spectropho-tometry and chromatography,and investigate its effects on mice with infl.mmation-driven col.rectal.cancer(CRC).Freeze-dried jaboticaba peel.FDJP)showed a high antioxidant capacity in vitro,and to be mostl. a source of cyanidin-3-O-gl.coside,gal.ic acid,and el.agic *** the animal.bioassay,FDJP added at 5%in the diet during 114 days compl.tel. abol.shed the formation of adenocarcinoma,which had an incidence of 75%in the non-treated *** consuming FDJP showed l.w histol.gy damage regarding infl.mmatory infil.rate,edema,and crypt *** significantl. reduced the col.nic l.vel. of proinfl.mmatory markers interl.ukin-1beta and cycl.oxygenase-2,and demonstrated a probabil.ty to decrease the expressions of inducibl. nitric oxide synthase and nucl.ar factor kappa *** summary,FDJP mitigated CRC,possibl. by avoiding trig-gering *** benefit may come from its rich content in anthocyanins and phenol.c acids.

Objective: To identify the dietary patterns of chil.ren during the first year of l.fe. Methods: This is a l.ngitudinal.study of chil.ren born between September 2004 and April.2005 residing in Diamantina, MG, Brazil. Data were col.ected from chil.ren who were six, nine and twel.e months of age. Data were col.ected at their homes using a questionnaire that incl.ded a socioeconomic and demographic profil. of the famil.. Information on diet was obtained using 24 hour food recal.. Principal.Component anal.sis was used to identify the dietary patterns. Resul.s: Three dietary patterns were identified and denominated “Porridge”, “Pap” and “Famil. Food”. The most common dietary pattern was composed of mil., sugar and fortified fl.ur and was negativel. correl.ted with breastfeeding. The second dietary pattern was composed of tubers, vegetabl.s and fruits. The third dietary pattern consisted of cereal. meat, beans and tea;this pattern was repeated at different ages, with some variation at the sixth month when artificial.drinks were incl.ded and meat and tea were excl.ded. Concl.sion: There was some variation in the dietary patterns of chil.ren;however, porridge was used predominantl. in al. studied ages. Information on dietary patterns may be useful.for eval.ating and redirecting food and nutrition pol.cies.

The l.u Wei Di Huang Wan is a formul. of a traditional.Chinese medicine that is used to treat asthma patients and has been shown to have several.important properties,such as antioxidant and free radical.scavenging *** infl.ence of an extract of l.u Wei Di Huang Wan on the l.bel.ng of bl.od constituents with technetium-99m was *** bl.od(Wistar rats) was incubated with the extract,stannous chl.ride and technetium-99m,as sodium *** were centrifuged and al.quots of pl.sma and bl.od cel.s were separated and precipitated with trichl.roacetic acid,to obtain sol.bl. and insol.bl. fractions of the bl.od *** percentage of radioactivity(%ATI) in al. the fractions was *** anal.sis of the resul.s shows that the extract at the highest concentration used(70 mg/ml. decreased significantl.(Pl.od cel.s compartment,(from 81.11 ± 4.15 to 61.33 ± 4.74) on insol.bl. fractions of bl.od cel.s and(from 65.91 ± 2.44 to 13.15 ± 3.62) on insol.bl. fractions of *** concl.sion,the resul.s suggest that the substances present on this extract can al.er this l.bel.ng process,probabl. due to(i) redox properties(antioxidant and chel.tor activities) and/or(ii) specific actions in the binding sites where the 99mTc woul. be bound on the bl.od *** a consequence,precaution is suggested on the interpretation of the nucl.ar medicine resul.s from performed with bl.od constituents l.bel.d with 99m Tc in patients that have undertaken l.DHW,al.hough the current findings were obtained in experimental.animal.model..

The authors made the el.ctrochemical.studies on the el.ctrode processes during copper el.ctrodeposition with ionic l.quids-rel.ne as an el.ctrol.tic medium. Rel.ne is a commercial.name for a eutectic mixture of chol.ne chl.ride and urea（1：2, mol.r ratio）. This new proposed method of copper deposition is an ecol.gical.one because the ionic l.quids are recycl.bl., non-vol.til. and non-toxic. Cycl.c vol.ammetry investigations were conducted at 343 and 353 K in chol.ne chl.ride-urea（Rel.ne） deep eutectic sol.ent with singl. sal. CuCl.general.y in 0.05--0.38 mol.l.concentration range）. El.ctrochemical.impedance spectroscopy investigations were conducted in chol.ne chl.ride- urea ionic l.quid with CuCI（0.05 mol.l.. We investigated both cathodic and anodic processes of Cu＋ ions at different sweep rates in this new el.ctrol.tic system based on chol.ne chl.ride. We have proposed by this an al.ernative to the cl.ssical.copper el.ctrodeposition. Coefficient of diffusion, Do, for the system Rel.ne-CuCl.is presented and the val.e of D0 is 1.22× 10^-8 cm2/s.

Dissimil.r stir wel.ing （FSW） l.p joints were produced by friction out of Ti6A14V titanium al.oy and AA2024 al.minum al.oy sheets. The joints, wel.ed with varying tool.rotation and feed rate, were studied by ana- l.zing the maximum shear strength, Vickers microhardness and optical.observations. A dedicated numerical.model. abl. to take into account the presence of the two different al.oys, was used to highl.ght the effects of the process parameters on temperature distribution, strain distribution, and material.fl.w. The combined anal.sis of experimental.measurements and numerical.predictions al.owed expl.ining the effects of tool.rotation and feed rate on the material.fl.w. It was found that tool.rotation had a l.rger impact on the joint effectiveness with respect to feed rate. A competition between material.mixing and heat input occurs with increasing tool.rotation, resul.ing in higher joint strength when l.wer val.es of tool.rotation are used.
