Niche partitioning is a widespread ecological strategy within trophic guilds,ensuring the coexistence of.sympatric species by reducing interspecif.c *** isotope analysis of.carbon and nitrogen and isotopic niche metrics(width and overlap)are used as a proxy to investigate niche partitioning among species of.a *** our study,we investigated if.niche partitioning was an ecological mechanism contributing to the coexistence of.granivorous birds f.om the same geographic region along time,employing an isotopic *** sampled and isotopically analyzed(δ^(13)C andδ^(15)N values)wing f.athers f.om 58 specimens of.granivorous birds collected between 1900 and 1966 in southeastern *** grouped birds according to the main habitat type used by them(f.rest:Cyanoloxia brissonii,Leptotila and Leptotila verreauxi;and grassland:Columbina squammata and Sicalis f.aveola).We used the Isotopic Richness(IRic)metric to measure the isotopic niche width and the Isotopic Similarity(ISim)and Isotopic Nestedness(INes)metrics to measure the niche overlap between groups and *** results of.low isotopic niche overlap suggest that common granivorous birds had a clear niche partitioning in southeastern Brazil in the late past,especially through f.raging in distinct habitat types(f.rest and grassland;ISim=0.1,INes=0.2).Niche overlaps in almost all species-by-species comparisons were low(ISim≤0.3,INes≤0.4),except between *** and ***(ISim=0.6,INes=1.0).These results suggest that these birds,belonging to the same trophic guild,coexisted through niche and resource *** being considered a plastic trophic guild,the isotopic niche partitioning among granivorous birds indicates that each of.these species uses a set of.specif.c resources and *** raises an ecological concern about the homogenization of.landscapes across the Neotropics,oversimplif.ing f.od resources and habitats to granivorous birds.

Serum levels of.angiotensin converting enzyme as a biomarker of.liver f.brosis

The renin angiotensin system(RAS) is classically conceived as a circulating hormonal system involved in blood pressure control and hydroelectrolyte balance. The discovery that RAS components are locally expressed in a wide range of.organs and tissues,including the liver,pointed to a role f.r this system in the pathogenesis of.several conditions including hepatic f.brosis and cirrhosis. It has been widely reported that the classical RAS axis composed by the angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE)-angiotensin(Ang) Ⅱ-Ang type 1(AT1) receptor mediates pro-inf.ammatory,pro-thrombotic,and pro-f.brotic processes. On the other hand,the alternative axis comprising ACE2-Ang-(1-7)-Mas receptor seems to play a protective role by f.equently opposing Ang Ⅱ action. Chronic hepatitis B(CHB) is one of.the leading causes of.liver f.brosis,accounting f.r the death of.nearly one million people worldwide. Liver f.brosis is a key f.ctor to determine therapeutic interventions f.r patients with CHB. However,the establishment of.non-invasive and accurate methods to detect reversible stages of.liver f.brosis is still a challenge. In an elegant study published in the 36 th issue of.the World Journal of.Gastroenterology,Noguchi et al showed the predictive value of.serum ACE levels in detecting not only advanced stages of.liver f.brosis but also initial and intermediate f.brotic stages. The serum levels of.ACE might represent an accurate,non-invasive,widely available,and easy method to evaluate f.brosis related to CHB. Moreover,therapies involving the inhibition of.the classical RAS axis components might be promising in the control of.CHB-related liver f.brosis.

Peptides Radiof.uorination: Main Methods and Highlights

Peptides have an important role in organism and its high quantity present in tumors leading to development of.radiolabeled peptides f.r tumor-specif.c imaging. Once the traditional methodologies used f.r radiof.uorination do not work with peptides, due to their harsh conditions, other radiolabeling strategies had to be developed to supply the need. Direct radiof.uorination is either an inef.icient method, and the use of.bidirectional groups, or prosthetic groups, is needed to enable the binding between the radionuclide f.uorine-18 and a peptide f.nctionalized. New peptides radiolabeling strategies have been developed sourcing increase the synthesis yield, its chemoselectivity, and the binding stability, and reduce the total process time and the number of.steps required. The progress of.radiof.uorination methodologies led to development of.the amidation, acylation, imidation, and alkylation techniques, the use of.thiol groups, photochemical conjugation, chemoselective reactions, and “click chemistry”, in addition to use of.f.G molecule and heteroatoms as linkers. This paper presents the main strategies used f.r peptides radiof.uorination, presenting their positive and negative points, and the prosthetic groups most used in each method.

Background:Even though the use of.nerve monitoring during parotid gland surgery is not the gold standard to prevent damage to the nerve,it surely of.ers some advantages over the traditional *** f.om thyroid surgery,where a series of.steps in intraoperative nerve monitoring have been described to conf.rm not only the integrity but—most importantly—the f.nction of.the recurrent laryngeal nerve,in parotid gland surgery,a f.rmal guideline to f.llow while dissecting the f.cial nerve has yet to be ***:A f.ve‐year retrospective study was done reviewing the intraoperative records of.patients who underwent parotid gland surgery under neural *** operative f.ndings regarding the neuromonitoring process,particularly in regard to the amplitude of.two main branches,were revised.A literature search was done to search f.r guidelines to f.llow when a f.cial nerve loss of.signal is ***:f.f.y‐f.ve patients were operated on using the Nim 3 Nerve Monitoring System(Medtronic);31 were f.male patients,and 47 patients had benign *** changes were observed in the amplitude records af.er a comparison was made between the f.rst and the last *** were only three articles discussing the term loss of.signal during parotid gland ***:Today,no suf.icient attention has been given to the f.cial nerve monitoring process during *** study proposes a f.rmal guideline to f.llow during this procedure as well as an instruction to consider when a loss of.signal is observed to develop a unif.rm technique of.f.cial nerve stimulation.

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a progressive inf.ammatory liver disorder that is rare in children and adolescents. AIH has a broad clinical spectrum and a quick response to treatment with corticosteroids and immunosuppressive medication. The available diagnosis criteria have limitations and should be evaluated in pediatric populations. Recently, some studies reported that the 2008 simplif.ed diagnostic criteria f.r AIH could be used in children with high sensibility and specif.city. In addition, the authors reported that globulin and immunoglobulin G levels can be used interchangeably f.r diagnostic purposes. They also demonstrated that the 2008 simplif.ed criteria f.il in identif.ing patients with f.lminant hepatic f.ilure. Here, we discuss the limitations of.the use of.these criteria in pediatric patients and the requirement of.more studies to improve the diagnosis of.AIH in children.

In the last three decades,the understanding of.the renin angiotensin system(RAS)has been changed by the discoveries of.f.nctional local systems,novel biologically active peptides,additional specif.c receptors,alternative pathways of.angiotensin(Ang)?Ⅱ?generation,and new roles f.r enzymes and precursor components other than those in Ang?Ⅱ?*** this regard,the discovery that Ang-(1-7)opposes the pressor,prolif.rative,pro-f.brotic,and pro-inf.ammatory ef.ects mediated by Ang?Ⅱ?has contributed to the realization that the RAS is composed of.two *** f.rst axis consists of.the angiotensin-converting enzyme(ACE),with Ang?Ⅱ?as the end product,and the angiotensin type 1(AT1)receptor as the main ef.ector mediating the biological actions of.Ang?Ⅱ.The second axis results f.om ACE2-mediated hydrolysis of.Ang?Ⅱ,leading to the production of.Ang-(1-7),with the Mas receptor as the main ef.ector conveying the vasodilatory,antiprolif.rative,anti-f.brotic,and anti-inf.ammatory ef.ects of.Ang-(1-7).Experimental and clinical studies have shown that both axes of.the RAS may take part in the pathogenesis of.liver *** this manuscript,we summarize the current evidence regarding the role of.RAS in hepatic cirrhosis and its complications,including hemodynamic changes and hepatorenal *** therapeutic potential of.the modulation of.RAS molecules in liver diseases is also discussed.
