clinical studies have associated the consumption of tiger nuts(cyperus esculentus L.),and its derivates,with improved macular health,due to the presence of certain liposoluble compounds with antioxidant activity,especially to lutein and ***,the benefits derived from ingestion of tiger nut products may vary depending on the release of these compounds from the food matrix to the digestive fluids and their eventual ***,this study aims at evaluating the influence of the food matrix on the liberation and final bioaccessibility of bioactive compounds with positive impact on macular health in different tiger nut products(flour,oil,and milk with and without added sucrose).The in vitro digestibility of macronutrients and the release of vitamin E,lutein,zeaxanthin,β-carotene,and total polyphenols of tiger nut products was *** addition,the antioxidant activity of the bioaccessible fraction was determined by ABTS,DPPH and FRAP *** showed that tiger nut milk resulted in the greatest proteolysis and total polyphenols ***,flour can contribute to hypoglycaemia and,alongside oil,were the best sources of carotenoids and vitamin *** digestion increased the antioxidant activity of milk,but the addition of sucrose decreased this *** food matrix was a highly relevant factor protecting or hindering the digestion and release of bioactive compounds in the digestive ***,tiger nut products are presented as ingredients with great potential to develop functional foods oriented to macular health.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc)is the fifth most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death *** data suggest that the epidemiology of Hcc is changing;while the frequencies of hepatitis B virus(HBV)-and hepatitis c virus(HcV)-related Hcc are progressively decreasing owing to the development of nucleo(t)side-based therapies and directly acting antiviral agents,respectively,the frequency of cryptogenic Hcc continues to increase(15–30%of cases)(1).The rise of cryptogenic Hcc is mainly related to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)(1,2).NAFLD encompasses a wide spectrum of liver injuries,ranging from steatosis to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),which may progress to cirrhosis(1,3).

AMP-activated kinase （AMPK）, a protein that regulates energy balance and metabolism, has recently been identified in boar spermatozoa where regulates key functional sperm processes essential for fertilization. This work＇s aims are AMPK identification, intracellular localization, and their role in human spermatozoa function. Semen was obtained from healthy human donors. Sperm AMPK and phospho-Thr172-AMPK were analyzed by Western blotting and indirect immunofluorescence. High- and low-quality sperm populations were separated by a 40%-80% density gradient. Human spermatozoa motility was evaluated by an Integrated Semen analysis System （ISAS） in the presence or absence of the AMPK inhibitor compound c （cc）. AMPK is localized along the human spermatozoa, at the entire acrosome, midpiece and tail with variable intensity, whereas its active form, phospho-Thr172-AMPK, shows a prominent staining at the acrosome and sperm tail with a weaker staining in the midpiece and the postacrosomal region. Interestingly, spermatozoa bearing an excess residual cytoplasm show strong AMPK staining in this subcellular compartment. Both AMPK and phospho-Thr172-AMPK human spermatozoa contents exhibit important individual variations. Moreover, active AMPK is predominant in the high motility sperm population, where shows a stronger intensity compared with the low motility sperm population. Inhibition of AMPK activity in human spermatozoa by cc treatment leads to a significant reduction in any sperm motility parameter analyzed： percent of motile sperm, sperm velocities, progressivity, and other motility coefficients. This work identifies and points out AMPK as a new molecular mechanism involved in human spermatozoa motility. Further AMPK implications in the clinical efficiency of assisted reproduction and in other reproductive areas need to be studied.

Hazardous elements and amorphous nanoparticles in historical estuary coal mining area

In Brazil, intense coal exploitation activities have led to environmental deterioration, including soil mortification, water contamination, loss of ecosystem, and atmospheric contamination. In addition,considerable quantities of sulfur-rich residues are left behind in the mining area; these residues pose grave environmental issues as they undergo sulfide oxidation reactions. When sulfur oxides come in contact with water, extreme acid leachate is produced with great proportions of sulfate, and hazardous elements(HEs), which are identified as coal drainage(cMD). cMD is an environmental pollution challenge, particularly in countries with historic or active coal mines. To prevent cMD formation or its migration, the source must be controlled; however, this may not be feasible at many locations. In such scenarios, the mine water should be collected, treated, and discharged. In this study, data from 2005 to2010 was gathered on the geochemistry of 11 cMD discharges from ten different mines. There are several concerns and questions on the formation of nanominerals in mine acid drainage and on their reactions and interfaces. The detailed mineralogical and geochemical data presented in this paper were derived from previous studies on the coal mine areas in Brazil. Oxyhydroxides, sulfates, and nanoparticles in these areas possibly go through structural transformations depending on their size and formation conditions. The geochemistry of Fe-precipitates(such as jarosite, goethite, and hematite) existent in the cMD-generating coal areas and those that could be considered as a potential source of hazardous elements(HEs)(e.g., cr) were also studied because these precipitates are relatively stable in extremely low pH conditions. Assessment and Monitoring Damage by <i>coraebus florentinus</i>(coleoptera: Buprestidae) in Mediterranean Oak Forests

coraebus florentinus (Herbst) is a wood borer beetle that damages the most abundant Quercus species making up the Mediterranean forests. Damage is due to the feeding activity of the larvae which cuts the sap flow into the branch where it develops, drying it. In the last decades, the geographical range and the damage records of this species have expanded northwardly as a result of the climate global change since warmer conditions favor higher reproduction and quicker development of this species. On this paper, historical series of data after ten years evaluating damages by c. florentinus in Hornachuelos Natural Park (Southern Spain) are analyzed under the perspective of the environmental temperature increase linked to the global climate change. The assessment was done between 2007 and 2017, in two sampling plots of Mediterranean mixed-oak forests where holm and cork oaks are the predominant tree species. Results show that the infestation levels of this species at the beginning of the assessment period were higher than those described previously in the nineties and that they increased progressively during the monitoring time. The results also agree with the expansion of its distribution areas noticed in other areas of Europe. The foreseeable rising of damages of c. florentinus is discussed, at greater scale, under the perspective of future scenery of environmental warming and oaks decaying by losing fitness due to higher soil aridity.

Deep convolutional autoencoders as generic feature extractors in seismological applications

The idea of using a deep autoencoder to encode seismic waveform features and then use them in different seismological applications is *** this paper,we designed tests to evaluate this idea of using autoencoders as feature extractors for different seismological applications,such as event discrimination(i.e.,earthquake *** waveforms,earthquake *** waveforms),and phase *** tests involve training an autoencoder,either undercomplete or overcomplete,on a large amount of earthquake waveforms,and then using the trained encoder as a feature extractor with subsequent application layers(either a fully connected layer,or a convolutional layer plus a fully connected layer)to make the *** comparing the performance of these newly designed models against the baseline models trained from scratch,we conclude that the autoencoder feature extractor approach may only outperform the baseline under certain conditions,such as when the target problems require features that are similar to the autoencoder encoded features,when a relatively small amount of training data is available,and when certain model structures and training strategies are *** model structure that works best in all these tests is an overcomplete autoencoder with a convolutional layer and a fully connected layer to make the estimation.

Stand-level biomass models for predicting c stock for the main Spanish pine species
