Effect of dietary canthaxanthin and 25-hydroxycholecalciferol supplementation on the performance of duck b.eeders under two different vitamin regimens

b.ckground： Dietary canthaxanthin（CX）, 25-hydroxycholecalciferol（25-OH-D3） and vitamins have b.en widely reported to b. involved in productive and reproductive performance of b.oiler b.eeders. However, limited information is availab.e for duck b.eeders. In this study, a total of 1,560 Cherry Valley SM3 duck b.eeder females and 312 males were used to assess if the addition of CX and 25-OH-D3 could increase the performance of duck b.eeders under two different dietary vitamin regimens. Four diets were used under a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with 2 kinds of vitamin premixes（REGULAR and HIGH; HIGH premix had higher levels of all vitamins except K3 than REGULAR premix）, and with or without the supplementation of the mixture of CX（6 mg/kg） and 25-OH-D3（0.069 mg/kg）. The ducks were fed ad lib.tum with pelleted diets b.sed on corn-soyb.an meal from 38 to 77 wk of ***： HIGH vitamin premix decreased malondialdehyde（MDA） level（P 〈 0.001） of egg yolk, increased hatchab.lity of fertile eggs（P = 0.029）, increased hatchab.lity of total eggs（P = 0.029）, and decreased serum protein carb.nyl level（P = 0.037） of b.eeder males. The mixture of CX and 25-OH-D3 increased serum calcium of b.eeder females（P = 0.010）, decreased the cracked egg rate（P = 0.001）, increased the pigmentation of egg yolk（P 〈 0.001）and male b.ll（P 〈 0.001）, and decreased MDA level of egg yolk（P 〈 0.001） and male serum（P = 0.034）. Interactive effects were ob.erved in cracked egg rate（P = 0.038）, shell thickness（P = 0.011） and serum phosphorus（P = 0.026）of b.eeder females. HIGH vitamin premix together with the mixture of CX and 25-OH-D3 decreased cracked egg rate and increased shell thickness of duck b.eeders. Ob.ective: The use of animal models of aortic stenosis(AS) remains essential to further elucidate its pathophysiology and to evaluate new therapeutic strategies. The waved-2 mouse AS model has b.en proposed;data have indicated that while aortic regurgitation(AR) is effectively induced, development of AS is *** aimed to evaluate the effect of high-fat diet(HFD) and vitamin D_3 supplementation in this ***: HFD and sub.utaneous vitamin D_3 injections were initiated at the age of 6 weeks until the age of 6(n = 16, 6-month treatment group) and 9(n = 11, 9-month treatment group) months. Twelve waved-2 mice without supplementation were used as control. Echocardiography was performed at 3, 6 and 9 months. b.ood serum analysis(calcium, 1,25(OH)_2D_3 and cholesterol), histology and immunohistochemistry(CD-31, CD-68 and osteopontin) were evaluated at the end of the experiment(6 or 9 months).Results: Total cholesterol and 1,25(OH)_2D_3 were significantly increased relative to the control group. HFD and vitamin D_3 supplementation did result in improvements to the model, since AS was only detected in 6(15.3%) mice(2 in the 3 groups) and AR was developed in the remaining animals. Echocardiographic parameters, fib.osis, thickness, inflammation and valvular calcification, were not significantly different b.tween the 6-month treatment and control groups. Similar results were also ob.erved in the 9-month treatment ***: These results suggest that HFD and vitamin D_3 supplementation have no effect in the waved-2 mouse model. This model essentially mimics AR and rarely AS. Further studies are needed to find a reliab.e animal model of AS.

Clustering b.havior of solid particles in two-dimensional liquid-solid fluidized-b.ds

In this paper, the clustering b.havior of solid particles in a two-dimensional (2D) liquid-solid fluidized-b.d was studied b. using the charge coupled devices (CCD) imaging measuring and processing technique and was characterized b. fractal analysis. CCD images show that the distrib.tion of solid particles in the 2D liquid-solid fluidised-b.d is not uniform and self-organization b.havior of solid particles was ob.erved under the present experimental conditions. The solid particles move up in the 2D fluidized-b.d in groups or clusters whose configurations are often in the form of horizontal strands. The b.x fractal dimension of the cluster images in the 2D liquid-solid fluidized-b.d increases with the rising of solid holdup and reduces with the increment of solid particle diameter and superficial liquid velocity. At given solid holdup and solid particle size, the lighter particles show smaller fractal dimensions.

Dear Editor, Host chaperone proteinsarecritical factors in plant virus infec- tion. One ofthe most commonly identified host factors involved in plant virus infection is Hsp70, which functions in ATP hydroly- sis, protein folding, assemb.y of protein complexes, and translo- cation b.tween cellular compartments. A comparative study of plant virus infection, including Potato virus X （PVX）, reported that Hsp70 is up-regulated b. virus infection and possib.y con- trib.tes to pathogenesis in b.th Arab.dopsis and N. b.nthami- ana plants （Aparicio et al., 2005）. Cytosolic Hsp70 interacts with the tomb.svirus and tymovirus replication complexes （Wang et al., 2009）, the potyvirus coat protein （Hafren et al., 2010）, and closteroviruses encode an HSP70 homolog that functions to enab.e virus intercellular transport （Agranovsky et al., 1998）.
