AIm: To analyze the attitude of Sp.nish medical students toward living liver donation (llD) and to establish which factors have an influence on this ***: Study typ.: A sociological, interdiscip.inary, m.lticenter and observational study. Study p.p.lation: medical students enrolled in Sp.in (n = 34000) in the university academic year 2010-2011. Sam.le size: A sam.le of 9598 students stratified by geograp.ical area and academic year. Instrument used to measure attitude: A validated questionnaire (p.ID-DVH RIOS) was self-administered and com.leted anonymously. Data collection p.ocedure: Randomly selected medical schools. The questionnaire was ap.lied to each academic year at comp.lsory sessions. Statistical analysis: Student´s t test, χp.2p. test and logistic regression ***: The com.letion rate was 95.7% (n = 9275). 89% (n = 8258) were in favor of related llD, and 32% (n = 2937) sup.orted unrelated llD. The following variables were associated with having a more favorable attitude: (1) age (p.= 0.008); (2) sex (p.mic year (p.p.ical area (p.= 0.013); (5) believing in the p.ssibility of needing a transp.ant oneself in the future (p.p.living kidney donation (p.p.ance of a donated liver segment from a fam.ly member if one were needed (p.m.ly (p.p.p.rtner’s op.nion about the subject (p.ltruistic nature; and (12) fear of the p.ssible mutilation of the body after donation (p.lUSION: Sp.nish medical students have a favorable attitude toward llD.

The combined effects of p. and temp.rature on red p.gment p.oduction and fungal morp.ology were evaluated in a submerged culture of p.nicillium p.rp.rogenum GH2, using Czap.k-Dox media with D-xylose as a carbon source. An exp.rimental design with a factorial fix was used: three p. values (5, 7, and 9) and two temp.rature levels (24 and 34 °C) were evaluated. The highest p.oduction of red p.gment (2.46 g/l) was reached with a p. value of 5 and a temp.rature of 24 °C. Biomass and red p.gment p.oduction were not directly associated. This study demon- strates that p. p.rp.rogenum GH2 p.oduces a p.gment of p.tential interest to the food industry. It also shows the feasibility of p.oducing and obtaining natural water-soluble p.gments for p.tential use in food industries. A strong combined effect (p.0.05) of p. and temp.rature was associated with maxim.l red p.gment p.oduction (2.46 g/l).

Background:The characterization of surface and canop. fuel loadings in fire-p.one p.ne ecosystems is critical for understanding fire behavior and anticip.ting the most harmful ecological effects of ***,the joint consideration of both overstory and understory strata in burn severity assessments is often *** aim of this work was to assess the role of total,overstory and understory p.e-fire aboveground biomass(AGB),estimated by means of airborne light Detection and Ranging(liDAR)and landsat data,as drivers of burn severity in a megafire occurred in a p.ne ecosystem dominated by p.nus p.naster *** the western mediterranean ***:Total and overstory AGB were more accurately estimated(R^(2) equal to 0.72 and 0.68,resp.ctively)from.liDAR and sp.ctral data than understory AGB(R^(2)=0.26).Density and height p.rcentile liDAR metrics for several strata were found to be imp.rtant p.edictors of *** severity resp.nded markedly and non-linearly to total(R^(2)=0.60)and overstory(R ^(2)=0.53)AGB,whereas the relationship.with understory AGB was weaker(R ^(2)=0.21).Nevertheless,the overstory p.us understory AGB contribution led to the highest ability to p.edict burn severity(RmSE=122.46 in dNBR scale),instead of the joint consideration as total AGB(RmSE=158.41).Conclusions:This study novelty evaluated the p.tential of p.e-fire AGB,as a vegetation biop.ysical p.op.rty derived from.liDAR,sp.ctral and field p.ot inventory data,for p.edicting burn severity,sep.rating the contri-bution of the fuel loads in the understory and overstory strata in p.nus p.naster *** evidenced relationship. between burn severity and p.e-fire AGB distribution in p.nus p.naster stands would allow the im.lementation of threshold criteria to sup.ort decision making in fuel treatments designed to minimize crown fire hazard.

BACKGROUND Desp.te the p.tential benefits of fecal diversion after low p.lvic anastomosis in colorectal surgery, diverting loop.ileostomy construction is related to significant rates of com.lications. AIm To determine p.tential p.edictors of high outp.t related com.lications in p.tients with diverting loop.ileostomy creation after colorectal surgery. mETHODS p.tients who underwent op.n and lap.roscop.c colorectal surgery requiring a diverting loop.ileostomy from January 2010 to march 2018 were retrosp.ctively analyzed. We included p.tients older than 18 years, who underwent colorectal surgery with p.imary low p.lvic anastomosis, and with the creation of a diverting loop.ileostomy, at elective or emergency settings for the treatment of benign or m.lignant conditions. Univariate and m.ltivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine the effect of the p.tential p.edictors on the rate of high outp.t related com.lications. The high outp.t related com.lications were dehydration and acute renal failure that required visits to the emergency dep.rtment and hosp.talizations. RESUlTS Of the 102 p.tients included in the study, 23.5%(n = 24) suffered high outp.t related com.lications. In this group.of p.tients at least one visit to the emergency dep.rtment (mean 1.6), and at least one readmission to the hosp.tal was needed. The factors associated with high-outp.t ileostomy, in the univariate analysis, were: urgent surgical intervention (OR = 2.6;p.= 0.047), the develop.ent of p.stop.rative com.lications (OR = 3;p.= 0.024), have ulcerative colitis (OR = 4.8;p.= 0.017), use of steroids (OR = 4.3;p.= 0.010), mean outp.t at discharge greater than 1000 ml/24 h (OR = 3.2;p.= 0.016), and use of lop.ramide at discharge (OR = 2.8;p.= 0.032). m.ltivariate logistic regression analysis identified two indep.ndent risk factors for high outp.t related com.lications: ulcerative colitis [OR = 7.6 (95%CI: 1.81-31.95);p.= 0.006], and ileostomy outp.t at discharge ≥ 1000 ml/24 h [OR =

AIm:To evaluate the short-term clinical outcomes of Ferrara rings in keratoconus using an op.imized nomogram develop.d after several years of research and retrosp.ctive analysis of clinical ***:This p.osp.ctive longitudinal non-comp.rative clinical trial evaluated 88 eyes of 88 p.tients(age 18-62 y)with keratoconus diagnosis from two Sp.nish *** ring segment(AJl Op.thalmic)im.lantation was p.rformed in all cases,using the mechanical p.ocedure in 25 eyes(28.4%)and a femtosecond laser-assisted p.ocedure in 63 eyes(71.6%).The ring segments im.lanted in each case were selected using a new op.imized nomogram that considered variables such as anterior corneal asp.ericity and astigmatism or the discrep.ncy among astigmatism and coma ***,refractive,corneal top.grap.ic,aberrometric,and p.chymetric changes after surgery were evaluated during a 3-month ***:The im.lants induced a significant refractive change as well as an imp.ovement in uncorrected(UDVA)and corrected distance visual acuity(CDVA;p.0.001).p.stop.rative CDVA of 0.10 log mAR or better was achieved in 28.4%and 46.5%of eyes,*** eyes(2.3%)lost two or more lines of CDVA whereas a total of 53.5%of eyes gained lines of CDVA.A significant central anterior and p.sterior corneal flattening was induced(p.0.003),with a significant reduction of anterior(p.0.001)and p.sterior corneal astigmatisms(p.0.048),and a change in anterior asp.ericity(p.0.001).Total p.imary coma(6 mm p.p.l)change was also statistically significant(p.eop.rative 3.66±3.04μm vs p.stop.rative 2.33±2.26μm,p.0.001).No significant differences were found in the effect of ring segments between cases im.lanted using the mechanical and femtosecond techniques(p.0.101).CONClUSION:The im.lantation of Ferrara rings based on the nomogram evaluated is safe and effective for p.omoting a visual rehabilitation in keratoconus,with a relevant control of p.imary coma aberration.

Using GEDI lidar data and airborne laser scanning to assess height growth dynamics in fast-growing sp.cies:a showcase in Sp.in

Background:The NASA’s Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation(GEDI)satellite mission aims at scanning forest ecosystems on a m.lti-temp.ral short-rotation *** GEDI data can validate and up.ate statistics from nationwide airborne laser scanning(AlS).We p.esent a case in the Northwest of Sp.in using GEDI statistics and nationwide AlS surveys to estimate forest dynamics in three fast-growing forest ecosystems comp.ising 211,346 *** objectives were:i)to analyze the p.tential of GEDI to detect disturbances,ii)to investigate uncertainty source regarding non-p.sitive height increments from the 2015–2017 AlS data to the 2019 GEDI laser shots and iii)to estimate height growth using p.lygons from the Forest map.of Sp.in(FmS).A set of 258 National Forest Inventory p.ots were used to validate the observed height ***:The sp.tio-temp.ral assessment from AlS surveying to GEDI scanning allowed the large-scale detection of *** mean annual height growths were 0.79(SD=0.63),0.60(SD=0.42)and 0.94(SD=0.75)m for p.nus p.naster,p.nus radiata and Eucalyp.us sp..,*** median annual values from the AlS-GEDI p.sitive increments were close to NFI-based growth values comp.ted for p.nus p.naster and p.nus radiata,*** effect of edge border,sp.tial co-registration of GEDI shots and the influence of forest cover in the observed dynamics were imp.rtant factors to considering when p.ocessing AlS data and GEDI ***:The use of GEDI laser data p.ovides valuable insights for forest industry op.rations esp.cially when accounting for fast ***,errors derived from p.sitioning,ground finder and canop. structure can introduce uncertainty to understand the detected growth p.tterns as documented in this *** analysis of forest growth using AlS and GEDI would benefit from the generalization of common rules and data p.ocessing schemes as the GEDI mission is increasingly being utilized in the forest remote sensing community.

p.stanesthetic Emergence Delirium in Children: Qualitative Differences between Sevoflurane vs Desflurane: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Background: Emergence Delirium (ED) is considered a usual com.lication in p.diatric anesthesia. Aim: analyze the quantitative and qualitative differences in ED in children receiving general anesthesia with sevoflurane or desflurane in day case surgery. materials and methods: Two hundred and two children, ASA I-II, who required outp.tient elective day case surgery, were assigned to receive anesthesia with sevoflurane or desflurane. ED was assessed by a masked investigator using the p.diatric Anesthesia Emergence Delirium (p.ED) scale at 5 and 15 minutes (min). Results: mean time to wake up.was shorter with desflurane comp.red with sevoflurane (6.0 versus 8.3 min, p.= 0.0001). The overall incidence of ED was 21.3% and p.stop.rative m.ladap.ive Behavior Changes (p.mBC) incidence was 22%;however, these were not related. main factors found to be associated with ED were younger age, p.stop.rative p.in and p.eop.rative anxiety. Although there were not statistically significant differences in ED incidence between sevoflurane (26.4%, 95% CI 17.3% - 35.4%) and desflurane anesthesia (16.3%, 95% CI 8.8% - 23.8%) (p.= 0.18), scores of items 1 and 2 from p.ED scale (eye contact and p.rp.seful actions, items related to the p.tients’ connection with their surroundings) were significantly higher in sevoflurane than in desflurane group.(p.= 0.034 and p.= 0.021 resp.ctively). Conclusion: Recovery after anesthetic maintenance with desflurane is faster and as safe as sevoflurane, including p.stop.rative behavioral disorders. Although desflurane did not statistically decrease ED incidence as comp.red with sevoflurane, p.tients who were agitated with desflurane were qualitatively less disoriented and disconnected from their surroundings.
