Growth performance of Avicennia officinalis L. and the effect of spacing on growth and yield of trees planted in the Western coastal belt of Bangladesh

A trial ofAvicennia officinalis L. with five different spacings was conducted in the newly accreted lands along the western coastline （Patuakhali district） of Bangladesh since 1993 to assess growth perform- ance and the effect of spacing on tree growth. Data on tree density, height, diameter, bole height, crown diameter were recorded and ana- lyzed when the stand was 19 years old. Mean height ranged from 12.89-13.52 m and diameter at breast height （dbh） from 26.57-32.16 cm in plots of different spacings. The mean annual height increment ranged from 0,67-0.71 m, mean annual diameter increment from 1.40-1.69 cm and wood volume from 6.02-10.04 ***＇*** in different treatments. Significantly greater diameter （32.16 cm） and wood volume （10.04 ***.a-1） were obtained with wider （2.13 m × 2.13 m） spacing than with closer spacings. But tree growth was unaffected by other spacings. Growth data were also recorded from other .4. officinalis plantations raised by Forest Department （FD） on different islands in Patuakhali and Bhola districts of Bangladesh. At these sites, mean annual height incre- ment ranged from 0.33-0.62 m, mean annual diameter increment from 0.72-1,37 cm and wood volume from 1.55-5.73 m3·ha-1·a·-1. The growth performance of A. offindicated that the newly aecreted lands along the western shoreline may be suitable for raising Avicennia planta- tions for the enrichment of coastal vegetation.

An entropy-stabilized multicomponent ultrahigh-temperature ceramic(UHTC)coating,(Ti_(0.25)V_(0.25)Zr_(0.25)Hf_(0.25))B_(2),on a graphite substrate was in-situ sintered by spark plasma sintering(SPs)from constituent transition metal diboride ***(Ti_(0.25)V_(0.25)Zr_(0.25)Hf_(0.25))B_(2) coating had a hardness of 31.2±2.1 GPa and resisted 36.9 GPa of stress before delamination,as observed at the *** temperature-dependent thermal properties of the multicomponent diboride(Ti_(0.25)V_(0.25)Zr_(0.25)Hf_(0.25))B_(2) were obtained by molecular dynamics(md)simulations driven by a machine learning force field(MLFF)trained on density functional theory(DFT)*** thermal conductivity,density,heat capacity,and coefficient of thermal expansion obtained by the md simulations were used in time-dependent thermal stress finite element model(FEM)*** low thermal conductivity(<6.52 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1))of the multicomponent diboride coupled with its similar coefficient of thermal expansion to that of graphite indicated that stresses of less than 10 GPa were generated at the interface at high temperatures,and therefore,the coating was mechanically resistant to the thermal stress induced during *** experiments at 220℃ showed that the multicomponent diboride coating was resistant to thermal stresses with no visible cracking or *** ablation mechanisms were mechanical denudation and evaporation of B_(2)O_(5) and light V-Ti oxides,which caused a decrease in the mass and thickness of the coating and resulted in mass and linear ablation rates of-0.51 mg·s^(-1) and -1.38μm·s^(-1),respectively,after 60 *** findings demonstrated the thermal and mechanical stability of multicomponent entropy-stabilized diborides as coatings for carbon materials in engineering components under extreme environments.

Nitric oxide （NO） is a gaseous reactive oxygen species （ROS） that has evolved as a signaling hormone in many physiological processes in animals. In plants it has been demonstrated to be a crucial regulator of development, acting as a signaling molecule present at each step of the plant life cycle. NO has also been implicated as a signal in biotic and abiotic responses of plants to the environment. Remarkably, despite this plethora of effects and functional relationships, the fundamental knowledge of NO production, sensing, and transduction in plants remains largely unknown or inadequately characterized. In this review we cover the current understanding of NO production, perception, and action in different physiological sce- narios. We especially address the issues of enzymatic and chemical generation of NO in plants, NO sensing and downstream signaling, namely the putative cGMP and Ca^2＋ pathways, ion-channel activity modulation, gene expression regulation, and the interface with other ROS, which can have a profound effect on both NO accumulation and function. We also focus on the importance of NO in cell-cell communication during developmental processes and sexual reproduction, namely in pollen tube guidance and embryo sac fertilization, pathogen defense, and responses to abiotic stress.

This is a multicentre forensic study that identifies all sports-related sudden deaths (SRSDs) in young people,due to myocardial diseases (mds) that occurred in a large area of *** aim of the study is to assess the epidemiology,causes of death,and sport activities associated with these *** is a retrospective study based on forensic autopsies performed in the provinces of Biscay,Seville,Valencia and in the jurisdiction covered by the National Institute of Toxicology and Forensic Sciences in Madrid (Spain).The retrospective study encompasses from 2010 to *** sudden cardiac deaths (SCDs) in persons 1-35years old were *** total number of SCDs were divided into death occurred during exercise (SRSD) and death during rest,sleep or normal activities (non-SRSD).Each of these two groups was subdivided according to the cause of death into md (primary cardiomyopathies and myocarditis) and ***-pathological,toxicological and genetic characteristics of SRSD due to md were *** the 8-year study period,we identified 645 cases of SCD in the young: 75 SRSD (11.6%) and 570 non-SRSD (88.4%).md was diagnosed in 33 (44.0%) of the SRSD and in 112 (19.6%) of the non-SRSD *** cases of SRSD due to md were males (mean age (24.0±7.6) years) practicing recreational sports (85%).SRSDs were more frequent in arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM) (37%) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) (24%),followed by myocarditis (15%) and idiopathic left ventricular hypertrophy (ILVH) (9%).Only in five cases of SRSD the md responsible of death (HCM) had been diagnosed in *** symptoms related to the disease were present in other seven patients (six of them with ACM).Postmortem genetic studies were performed in 15/28 (54%) primary cardiomyopathies with positive results in 12 (80%) *** most frequent sports disciplines were football (49%) followed by gymnastics (15%) and running (12%).In Spain,SRSD in young people due to mds occurs in mal

Introduction:md is considered a rare *** adequate model that explains md's pathophysiology is not well ***,the vascular theory of the disease has been ***:To characterize a md population according to its cardiovascular risk and correlate it to the md clinical ***:In this retrospective chart study the data of 31 md patients observed between January 2017 and April 2018 in a tertiary university hospital were *** included in the study were diagnosed according to the Barany Society *** follow-ups,patients with autoimmune disease,atopy or allergy,major psychiatric disease and migraine were ***,gender,cardiovascular risk factors,audiometric and vestibular parameters,occurrence of md attacks in the previous 6 months,vestibular medication in course and time course of md were recorded and compared between groups(with and without cardiovascular risk factors).Results:31 patients(61.3%females)mean aged 60.3 years(±9.7)were studied.74%of the population had at least one risk factor and 51.6%of patients had attacks in the last 6 *** was a statistically significant difference in the occurrence of md attacks in the last 6 months(p=0.014)between md patients with and without risk *** PTA thresholds were higher and speech discrimination was lower in individuals with more cardiovascular risk ***:Treatment of md focusing on vascular risk factors may allow a better control of symptoms and result in a decreased need for ablative procedures in this disorder.

Long-term treatment with PP2 after spinal cord injury resulted in functional locomotor recovery and increased spared tissue

The spinal cord has the ability to regenerate but the microenvironment generated after trauma reduces that capacity. An increase in Src family kinase （SFK） activity has been implicated in neuropathological conditions associated with central nervous system trauma. Therefore, we hypothesized that a decrease in SFK activation by a long-term treatment with 4-amino-5-（4- chlorophenyl）-7-（t-butyl）pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyramidine （PP2）, a selective SFK inhibitor, after spinal cord contusion with the New York University （NYU） impactor device would generate a permissive environment that improves axonal sprouting and/or behavioral activity. Results demonstrated that long-term blockade of SFK activation with PP2 increases locomotor activity at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days post-iniury in the Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan open field test, round and square beam crossing tests. In addition, an increase in white matter spared tissue and serotonin fiber density was observed in animals treated with PP2. However, blockade of SFK activity did not change the astrocytic response or infiltration of cells from the immune system at 28 days post-injury. Moreover, a reduced SFK activity with PP2 diminished Ephexin （a guanine nudeotide exchange factor） phosphorylation in the acute phase （4 days post-injury） after trauma. Together, these findings suggest a potential role of SFK in the regulation of spared tissue and/or axonal outgrowth that may result in functional locomotor recovery during the pathophysiology generated after spinal cord injury. Our study also points out that ephexinl phosphorylation （activation） by SFK action may be involved in the repulsive microenvironment generated after spinal cord injury.
