Parkinson’s disease is the most common movement disorder,affecting about 1%of the population over the age of 60 ***’s disease is characterized clinically by resting tremor,bradykinesia,rigidity and postural instability,as a result of the progressive loss of nigrostriatal dopaminergic *** addition to this neuronal cell loss,Parkinson’s disease is characterized by the accumulation of intracellular protein aggregates,Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites,composed primarily of the proteinα-*** it was first described almost 200 years ago,there are no disease-modifying drugs to treat patients with Parkinson’s *** addition to conventional therapies,non-pharmacological treatment strategies are under investigation in patients and animal models of neurodegenerative *** such strategies,environmental enrichment,comprising physical exercise,cognitive stimulus,and social interactions,has been assessed in preclinical models of Parkinson’s *** enrichment can cause structural and functional changes in the brain and promote neurogenesis and dendritic growth by modifying gene expression,enhancing the expression of neurotrophic factors and modulating *** this review article,we focus on the current knowledge about the molecular mechanisms underlying environmental enrichment neuroprotection in Parkinson’s disease,highlighting its influence on the dopaminergic,cholinergic,glutamatergic and GABAergic systems,as well as the involvement of neurotrophic *** describe experimental pre-clinical data showing how environmental enrichment can act as a modulator in a neurochemical and behavioral context in different animal models of Parkinson’s disease,highlighting the potential of environmental enrichment as an additional strategy in the management and prevention of this complex disease.

Aqueous biphasic systems(ABS)are promising for proteins purification;however,when dealing with samples comprising several proteins,the selectivity towards a target protein is difficult to *** this work,the addition of ionic liquids(ILs)as adjuvants(5 wt%and 10 wt%)in ABS composed of polyethylene glycol(PEG)and dextran was investigated to tailor proteins partitioning between the coexisting *** liquid-liquid phase diagrams were determined at 298 K,followed by partition studies of three proteins(bovine serum albumin(BSA),immunoglobulin G(IgG),and cytochrome C(Cyt C)).Partition coefficients of IgG and BSA indicate the preference of both proteins to the dextran-rich phase,whereas Cyt C has no preferential partitioning between the *** addition of chloride-based ILs as adjuvants allows to increase or decrease the partition coefficients,thus tailoring the proteins partitioning between the *** partitioning essentially depends on the IL content in each phase,whereas Cyt C and IgG partitioning is ruled by the ILs chemical structure and established *** docking was carried out to address the ILs effect on the proteins partitioning,supporting experimental observations,while identifying the specific interactions *** partition of each protein in polymer-salt ABS with ILs as adjuvants was determined,demonstrating the higher tailoring ability of polymer-polymer ABS when adding ***,the partition of each protein in presence of the remaining ones was determined,as well as the selectivity of the studied systems to separate each pair of proteins,paving the way for their use in liquidliquid chromatography.

The science and technology interact with the art in several ways. Biotechnological coupled with analytical approaches can play an important role in protecting and preserving cultural heritage for future generations. Many microorganisms influenced by environmental conditions are the main responsible for biological contamination in built heritage. Biocides based on chemical compounds have been used to mitigate this problem. Thus, it is vitally important to develop proper remediation actions based on environmentally innocuous alternative. Bacillus specie is emerging as an optimistic alternative for built heritage treatment due to their capacity to produce secondary metabolites with antagonistic activities against many fungal pathogens. Therefore, the intent of this work was to access a rapid evaluation of antifungal potential of bioactive metabolites produced by Bacillus strains and simultaneously their characterization using spectroscopic (NMR) and chromatographic techniques (LC-ESI-MS). The high antifungal activity obtained for Bacillus sp. active compounds produced in this study confirms the great potential to suppress biodeteriogenic fungi growth on historical artworks. Additionally, the proposed methodology allowed to access bioactive metabolites produced without need of the laborious total previous isolation and could be used as a viable alternative to be employed for screening and production of new green biocides.

This paper presents a study on the biotic/abiotic conditions of the S?o Giácomo sanitary landfill, located near the city of Caxias do Sul, Brazil, through statistical analysis of fourteen physic-chemical data sets for the leachate, produced in the garbage dump site over a long period of years. Different chemometric methods are used in the statistical analysis. For example, the correlations between the variables, related to the degraded organic matter and biological activity, are determined by means of multivariate methods. The results highlight that BOD, COD, VTS, FTS and TS give information on the anaerobic degradation of the organic matter contained in the cells, and suggest that the greater the contribution of the variables with positive weights in PC1 the greater the level of organic matter degradation. The variables TN, Amon Nit. and alkalinity are related to the biological activity and determine the potency of the variables in relation to time. The greater the contribution of the variables related to organic degradation the greater the values in PC2 and the lesser the potency of these variables, whose influence is greater in the second stage of anaerobic degradation. The variables of PC2 is important plans of the contamination of the leached in the bodies hídrics.

AIM:To evaluate small bowel cleansing quality,diagnostic yield and transit time,comparing three cleansing protocols prior to capsule ***:Sixty patients were prospectively enrolled and randomized to one of the following cleansing protocols:patients in Group A underwent a 24 h liquid diet and overnight fasting;patients in Group B followed protocol A and subsequently were administered 2 L of polyethylene glycol(PEG) the evening before the procedure;patients in Group C followed protocol B and were additionally administered 100 mg of simethicone 30 min prior to capsule *** bowel cleansing was independently assessed by two experienced endoscopists and classified as poor,fair,good or excellent according to the proportion of small bowel mucosa under perfect conditions for *** there was no agreement between the two endoscopists,the images were reviewed and discussed until a consensus was *** preparation was considered acceptable if > 50% or adequate if > 75% of the mucosa was in perfect cleansing *** amount of bubbles was assessed independently and it was considered significant if it prevented a correct interpretation of the *** endoscopic findings,gastric emptying time(GET) and small bowel transit time(SBTT) were recorded for each ***:There was a trend favoring Group B in achieving an acceptable(including fair,good or excellent) level of cleansing(Group A:65%;Group B:83.3%;Group C:68.4%) [P = not significant(NS)] and favoring Group C in attaining an excellent level of cleansing(Group A:10%;Group B:16.7%;Group C:21.1%)(P = NS).The number of patients with an adequate cleansing of the small bowel,corresponding to an excellent or good classification,was 5(25%) in Group A,5(27.8%) in Group B and 4(21.1%) in Group C(P = 0.892).Conversely,7 patients(35%) in Group A,3 patients(16.7%) in Group B and 6 patients(31.6%) in Group C were considered to have poor small bowel cleansing(P = 0.417),with sig

The appearance of fresh meat is a major determinant of its appeal to consumers. Ground beef in retail display oxidizes at a faster rate than whole muscle products;the use of antioxidants to break the radical chain reaction in the oxidation process is an effective method for slowing oxidation. Soybean is a complex matrix with several bioactive compounds, including peptides and proteins, isoflavones, saponins, and other compounds with antioxidant properties. This study was conducted for 1) to evaluate the antioxidant properties of dry soybeans sprouts (DSS) from Glycine max (L.) Merr., MUNASQA?;2) to evaluate quality characteristics of raw beef patties added with dried soybean sprouts at different levels (0.5%, 1% and 2%) and soybean oil as a replacer of fat;and 3) to estimate color changes and lipid oxidation of n3 fortified raw beef under frozen storage. Results showed that dry soybean sprouts had a high level of superoxide dismutase enzyme, high total phenolics and flavonoids content and appreciable vitamin c content. Although reduction power was low, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-ulphonic acid) (ABTS) radicals scavenging activity were elevated. When different concentrations of DSS were incorporated to enriched beef patties with soybean oil, the nutritional value was slightly affected, while that n3 and n6 fatty acid content were increased around three twice. The beef patties formulated with 1% of natural antioxidant showed significantly (p < 0.05) better color stability than those without antioxidants. The lipid oxidation was inhibited in all cases, and was strongly effective at 1% concentration of DSS being the reduced percent of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) comparable to butilated hydroxianisole (BHA). The results shown in this research suggest that dry soybeans sprouts could also be used as a cheap natural antioxidant source for meat products.

Human milk is the ideal nutritional support for premature neonates. Considering the need for aggregating nutritional value to human milk provided to such vulnerable group of infants, human milk was concentrated by the block freeze concentration technique. The effects of freeze concentration on the physicochemical properties, the efficiency of the process, color parameters, and the density and dynamic viscosity of human milk were assessed. The freeze concentration technology was used to successfully concentrate human milk to a factor equal to 180.48% and 72% of total solid retention in the second stage of freeze concentration. The values observed in the concentrates for the biochemical properties showed that the fraction of concentrated fluid human milk of the second stage (C2) presented elevated amounts of carbohydrates, protein and energy. The elevated caloric value observed in the ice fraction of the first stage (I1) refers to the retention of lipids in it. When added to human milk, C2 and I1 may satisfy the special requisites of nutrients and energy to guarantee the growth and development of preterm neonates.

Dunnigan-type partial lipodystrophy, which is characterized by a number of metabolic alterations, change in body fat distribution, and autosomal dominant inheritance pattern, is rare in the general population. Objective: To report the case of an adolescent with clinical and laboratory findings suggestive of Dunnigan-type partial lipodystrophy. Methods: Case report and literature review. Results: A 15-year-old adolescent presented at the clinic complaining of darkening of skin folds on her trunk and back. During physical examination, the presence of serious acanthosis nigricans in her cervical region, axillae, and intergluteal space was noted. Hirsutism in androgen-dependent areas was also observed, as well as relevant reduction of subcutaneous adipose tissue in the limbs, gluteal region, abdomen, and trunk and fat accumulation in the face and chin. Discussion. Dunnigan-type familial partial lipodystrophy is a rare dominant autosomal disease resulting from a heterozygous missense mutation in the LMNA gene, known as LPF type 2 (Dunnigan variant), which encodes the nuclear protein A/C-type lamin. It is characterized by the progressive disappearance of the subcutaneous adipose tissue in the limbs, gluteal region, abdomen, and trunk, with onset in puberty, followed by fat accumulation in other areas such as the face, chin, labia majora, and intra-abdominal region, leading to hypertrophy that may mimic the Cushing’s syndrome phenotype. Affected patients display marked insulin resistance and may consequently develop diabetes mellitus, acanthosis nigricans, hirsutism, and polycystic ovary syndrome. Conclusion: This case report highlights the importance of suspecting Dunnigan-type familial partial lipodystrophy in clinical practice. Early clinical diagnosis allows for measures that minimize the severe metabolic disorders associated with this disease and, consequently, these adolescents’ self-esteem issues.
