the suicide phenomenon involves complex interactions between psychological,biological,cultural and socio-environmental *** study aimed to assess the epidemiological and toxicological profiles of officially confirmed suicide *** study was performed using autopsy reports,forensic anthropology examinations and police summaries of all suicide cases that underwent toxicological analysis at an Official Forensic Laboratory(minas Gerais,Brazil)in 1 *** sample set was composed of 351 suicide victims,predominantly men(70.32%),most of them were adults between 31 and 64 years old(62.11%),with mixed skin colour(48.89%)and low educational level(66.44%).the most common suicide method was hanging(57.79%),followed by intoxication(30.45%).most victims presented positive toxicological results(56.41%),especially for the presence of medicines(37.6%),illicit drugs(36.3%)and pesticides(26.1%).Our study corroborated previous data that most suicide victims have low educational *** most common toxicological findings were medicines,especially prescription drugs,followed by illicit drugs and *** hope this study contributes to reflections and planning of preventive suicide programmes,considering the described profiles of victims.

In spite of advances in surgical care and rehabilitation, the consequences of spinal cord injury （SCI） are still challenging. Several experimental therapeutic strategies have been studied in the SCI field, and recent advances have led to the development of therapies that may act on the inhibitory microenvironment. Assorted lineages of stem cells are considered a good treatment for SCI. this study investigated the effect of systemic transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells （mSCs） in a compressive SCI model. Here we present results of the intraperitoneal route, which has not been used previously for mSC administration after compressive SCI. We used adult female C57BL/6 mice that underwent laminectomy at the t9 level, followed by spinal cord compression for 1 minute with a 30-g vascular clip. the animals were divided into five groups： sham （anesthesia and laminectomy but without compression injury induction）, mSC i.p. （intraperitoneal injection of 8×10^5 mSCs in 500 μL of DmEm at 7 days after SCI）, mSC i.v. （intravenous injection of 8 × 10^5 mSCs in 500μL of DmEm at 7 days after SCI）, DmEm i.p. （intraperitoneal injection of 500μL of DmEm at 7 days after SCI）, DmEm i.v. （intravenous injection of 500 μL of DmEm at 7 days after SCI）. the effects of mSCs transplantation in white matter sparing were analyzed by luxol fast blue staining. the number of preserved fibers was counted in semithin sections stained with toluidine blue and the presence of trophic factors was analyzed by immunohistochemistry. In addition, we analyzed the locomotor performance with Basso mouse Scale and Global mobility test. Our results showed white matter preservation and a larger number of preserved fibers in the mSC groups than in the DmEm groups. Furthermore, the mSC groups had higher levels of trophic factors （brain-derived neurotrophic factor, nerve growth factor, neurotrophin-3 and neurotrophin-4） in the spinal cord and improved locomotor performance. Fracture in sheet metal forming usually occurs as ductile fracture, rarely as brittle fracture, at the operating temperatures and rates of loading that are typical of real processes in two different modes：（1） tensile and（2） in-plane shear（respectively, the same as modes I and II of fracture mechanics）. the circumstances under which each mode will occur are identified in terms of plastic flow and ductile damage by means of an analytical approach to characterize fracture loci under plane stress conditions that takes anisotropy into consideration. Fracture loci was characterized by means of the fracture forming limit line and by the shear fracture forming limit line in the fracture forming limit diagram. Experiments were performed with single point incremental forming and double-notched test specimens loaded in tension, torsion and in-plane shear give support to the presentation and allow determining the fracture loci of AA1050-H111 aluminium sheets with1 mm thickness. the relation between fracture toughness and the fracture forming limits was also investigated by comparing experimental values of the strains at fracture obtained from a truncated conical part produced by single point incremental forming and from double-notched test specimens loaded in tension.

Electrocardiographic measures of repolarization dispersion and their relationships with echocardiographic indices of ventricular remodeling and premature ventricular beats in hypertension

Objective to examine the relationship between tpeak- tend interval （tpe） and tpe/Qt ratio with occurrence of ventricular premature beats （VPBs） and left ventricular remodeling in hypertension. methods A total of 52 patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension were included, undergoing echocardiography and 24-hours Holter monitoring. Ventricular remodeling was assessed by left ventricular mass index （LVmI） using the Devereux formula and diastolic fimction by transmitral E and A wave velocities and E/A ratio. tpe was measured in the precordial leads. the end of the t wave was set by the method of the tangent to the steepest descending slope of the t wave. Results tpe and tpe/Qt in leads V2 （r = 0.33, P = 0.01; r = 0.27, P = 0.04 respectively） and V3 （r = 0.40, P = 0.002; r = 0.40, P = 0.003, respectively） correlated significantly with LVmI. A significant inverse relationship was observed between E/A ratio and Qt （r = -0.33, P = 0.01）, tpe in V3 （r = -0.39, P = 0.003） and tpe/Qt in V3 （r = -0.31, P = 0.02）. tpe in V3, V5, mean tpe and maximum tpe with cut-offvalues of 60 ms, 59 ms, 62 ms and 71 ms, respectively, associated with the occurrence of ventricular premature beats. Conclusions the repolarization parameters tpe interval and tpe/Qt ratio correlate with LVmI and indices of left ventricular diastolic function and show better predictive values than traditional parameters such as Qt interval and Qt dispersion. Lead V3 is the best lead for measuring tpe and tpe/Qt. these ECG indices can therefore be used in clinical practice to monitor LV remodeling and predict occurrence of VPBs.

Problems associated with carbon support corrosion under operating fuel cell conditions require the identification of alternative supports for platinum-based nanosized *** supported on manganese vanadate(Pt/mnV_(2)O_(6))was prepared by microwave irradiation method and characterized using X-ray diffraction,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy,and transmission electron *** borohydride oxidation reaction(BOR)on Pt/mnV_(2)O_(6) was studied in highly alkaline media using voltammetry,chronoamperometry,and electrochemical impedance *** electrocatalytic activity of Pt/mnV_(2)O_(6) was also compared with that of commercial Pt/C(46 wt%Pt)*** apparent activation energy of BOR at Pt/mnV_(2)O_(6) was estimated to be 32 k J mol^(-1) and the order of reaction to be 0.51,indicating that borohydride hydrolysis proceeds in parallel with its ***-term stability of Pt/mnV_(2)O_(6) under BOR typical conditions was observed.A laboratory-scale direct borohydride fuel cell assembled with a Pt/mnV_(2)O_(6) anode reached a specific power of 274 W g^(-1).Experimental results on Pt/mnV_(2)O_(6) were complemented by DFt calculations,which indicated good adherence of Pt to mnV_(2)O_(6),beneficial for electrocatalyst stability.

Soil salinization and non-point source pollution are among the most important and widespread environmental problems in European mediterranean regions. Sweet sorghum （Sorghum bicolor （L.） moench var. saccharatum） is a moderate to high salinity tolerant crop with low water and nutrient needs, seen as an alternative to grow in the water scarce regions. A three-year multifactorial study was conducted in southern Portugal to evaluate the combined effects of saline water and nitrogen application on the dry biomass （total, stems, and leaves）, sugar content （total reducing sugars and sucrose eontents） and sugar yield （here defined as the product of total reducing sugars and stems dry biomass） functions of sweet sorghum. Sorghum dry biomass and sugar yield showed diminishing returns for each incremental change of nitrogen. the use of saline irrigation waters also led to yield reduction. Exception was sucrose content which increased with increasing levels of sodium in the soil. Nitrogen need decreased as the amount of sodium applied increased. Stem dry biomass, sucrose content, and sugar yield progressively increased with progress in the experiment. the effect could be attributed to the increase of the amount of irrigation applied throughout the years, thus increasing the leaching fraction which promoted salt leaching from the root zone, reduced the salinity stress, increased plant transpiration, nitrogen uptake and biomass yield.
