Over the past decades,empirical evidence has been accumulated indicating that olfactory information plays a fundamental role in bird life ***,many aspects of avian olfaction remain poorly *** purpose was to broaden the knowledge about the importance of the sense of smell in some neglected bird groups:psittaciformes and ramphastids,and to compare how the response varied between the *** of the lack of information about the use of chemical cues for locating food in fruit-eating species,we also aimed to delve into this *** conducted a 3-choice(water/vinegar/papaya and banana juice)scent test in 5 Costa Rican native species:scarlet macaw(Ara macao),red-lored amazon(Amazona autumnalis),yellow-naped amazon(Amazona auropalliata),keel-billed toucan(Ramphastos sulfuratus),and yellow-throated toucan(Ramphastos ambiguus).Results revealed that macaws and toucans allocated signiﬁcantly more time to interacting with the fruit scent container,indicating that these species can perceive the volatile chemicals emitted by ripe fruits and that they can use this information to make foraging ***,amazons did not dedicate more time to interact with the fruit *** research provides theﬁrst evidence of the ability to exploit chemical volatile cues in macaws and toucans.

This is a multicentre forensic study that identifies all sports-related sudden deaths (SRSDs) in young people,due to myocardial diseases (mDs) that occurred in a large area of *** aim of the study is to assess the epidemiology,causes of death,and sport activities associated with these *** is a retrospective study based on forensic autopsies performed in the provinces of Biscay,Seville,Valencia and in the jurisdiction covered by the national Institute of Toxicology and Forensic Sciences in madrid (Spain).The retrospective study encompasses from 2010 to *** sudden cardiac deaths (SCDs) in persons 1-35years old were *** total number of SCDs were divided into death occurred during exercise (SRSD) and death during rest,sleep or normal activities (non-SRSD).Each of these two groups was subdivided according to the cause of death into mD (primary cardiomyopathies and myocarditis) and ***-pathological,toxicological and genetic characteristics of SRSD due to mD were *** the 8-year study period,we identified 645 cases of SCD in the young: 75 SRSD (11.6%) and 570 non-SRSD (88.4%).mD was diagnosed in 33 (44.0%) of the SRSD and in 112 (19.6%) of the non-SRSD *** cases of SRSD due to mD were males (mean age (24.0±7.6) years) practicing recreational sports (85%).SRSDs were more frequent in arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACm) (37%) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCm) (24%),followed by myocarditis (15%) and idiopathic left ventricular hypertrophy (ILVH) (9%).Only in five cases of SRSD the mD responsible of death (HCm) had been diagnosed in *** symptoms related to the disease were present in other seven patients (six of them with ACm).Postmortem genetic studies were performed in 15/28 (54%) primary cardiomyopathies with positive results in 12 (80%) *** most frequent sports disciplines were football (49%) followed by gymnastics (15%) and running (12%).In Spain,SRSD in young people due to mDs occurs in mal

Red rice Is an Interfertlle, weedy form of cultivated rice （Oryza sativa L.） that competes aggressively with the crop In the southern US, reducing yields and contaminating harvests. no wild Oryza species occur In north America and the weed has been proposed to have evolved through multiple mechanisms, Including ＂de-domestication＂ of US crop cultlvars, accidental introduction of Asian weeds, and hybridization between US crops and Asian wild/weedy Oryza strains. The phenotype of US red rice ranges from ＂crop mimics＂, which share some domestication traits with the crop, to strains closely resembling Asian wild Oryza species. Assessments of genetic diversity have Indicated that many weed strains are closely related to Asian taxa （Including indica and aus rice varieties, which have never been cultivated In the US, and the Asian crop progenitor O. ruflpogon）, whereas others show genetic similarity to the tropical Japonica varieties cultivated In the southern US. Herein, we review what Is known about the evolutionary origins and genetic diversity of US red rice and describe an ongoing research project to further characterize the evolutionary genomlcs of this aggressive weed.

BACKGROUnD: This study aimed to compare the rates of open and laparoscopic cholecystectomies and outcomes in patients with or without type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2Dm) in Spain from 2003 to 2013. mETHODS: We collected all cases of open and laparoscopic cholecystectomies using national hospital discharge data and evaluated the annual cholecystectomy rates stratiifed by T2Dm status. We analyzed tendency for in-hospital mortality (IHm). We also analyzed the impact of T2Dm on IHm in patients who underwent cholecystectomies. RESULTS: We identiifed 611 533 cholecystectomies (71.3%laparoscopic) in the patients, in whom 78 227 (12.8%) patients had T2Dm. The rates of open cholecystectomies were 3-fold higher (130.0/105 vs 41.1/105) in patients with T2Dm than in those without T2Dm, and the rate of laparoscopic cholecys-tectomies was almost 2-fold higher (195.2/105 vs 111.8/105) in patients with T2Dm. The annual rate of laparoscopic pro-cedures showed an 11-year relative increase of 88.3% (from 117.0/105 to 220.3/105) in T2Dm and 49.2% (from 79.2/105 to 118.2/105) in patients without T2Dm (Pn procedures showed an 11-year relative decrease of 27.6% in patients with T2Dm and 37.9% in those without T2Dm (Pmergency laparoscopic cho-lecystectomy was increased in the 11 years, whereas the rate of emergency open cholecystectomies was decreased (both Pmultivariate analysis revealed that older age, higher comorbidity and emergency cholecystectomy were associated with a higher IHm. Compared with patients without T2Dm, patients with T2Dm demonstrated a lower IHm after open cholecystectomy [OR=0.82 (0.78-0.87)], but a higher IHm after laparoscopic cholecystectomy (OR=1.18 (1.03-1.35))Time-trend analyses showed a signiifcant reduction in IHm in patients with or without T2Dm after the two procedures. maintenance operations have a critical influence on power gen-eration by wind turbines(WT).Advanced algorithms must analyze large volume of data from condition monitoring systems(CmS)to determine the actual working conditions and avoid false *** paper proposes different support vector machine(SVm)algorithms for the prediction and detection of false alarms.K-Fold cross-validation(CV)is applied to evaluate the classification reliability of these *** Control and Data Acquisition(SCADA)data from an operating WT are applied to test the proposed *** results from the quadratic SVm showed an accuracy rate of 98.6%.misclassifications from the confusion matrix,alarm log and maintenance records are analyzed to obtain quantitative information and determine if it is a false *** classifier reduces the number of false alarms called misclassifications by 25%.These results demonstrate that the proposed approach presents high reliability and accuracy in false alarm identification.

Temperature Effect on the Viscosity of Commercial Carrot Puree

Temperature effect was evaluated over the viscosity of commercial carrot puree in the range 30 to 60 ℃, using aBrookfield viscometer, model 4535, Lab-Line instruments. In order to perform the viscosity tests, 28 specimens of carrot puree froma local market were used. Totally, 72 tests （each one with a couple replicas） were performed during five minutes, using fourtemperatures （30, 40, 50 and 60 ℃）, six shear rates （0.26, 0.52, 1.05, 2.09, 5.24 and 10.47 s1） and three spindles （4, 5 and 6）.Statistical analysis was performed using LSD and Duncan tests with a confidence interval of 95% （p value of 0.05）. In the currentstudy, it was observed that an increase in the temperature triggers a reduction in the viscosity of the carrot specimens analyzed,although the samples tested at 60℃ were deviated from this trend, which may be due to denaturation of the starch containing carrotsamples at such temperature. multiple biochemical and micro-structural changes inside the food specimens may begin to occur belowand over the physiological range （20-45 ℃）. Experimental data were analyzed with Power Law model in order to obtain the bestfitted parameters as a function of shear rate： It was observed that the consistent index （k） decreased with an increment in thetemperature; while all the values of parameter ＂n＂ lesser than one, which means that the puree samples behaved as a pseudo-plasticfluid. Besides that, an Arrhenius model was used to fit the parameters as a function of temperature： Parameter A was lower usingtheexperimental data at shear rates of 10.47 s-1. The modeling performed may be helpful for the appropriate selection of some processvariables, as the shear rate and operation temperature, used for the production of carrot puree; all this is in order to obtain the finishedproduct with the desired consistency.
