The consumption of marine macroalgae has been linked with health benefits,albeit some actions,including genoprotection,remain ***,we evaluated the genoprotective potential of a mixture of Ulva rigida,Fucus vesiculosus and Gracilaria gracilis,through direct consumption or via indirect intake using fish(sparus aurata)as a vector of algal ***(Mus musculus)were subjected to a 1-month dietary supplementation with 5%of macroalgae mix or 10%of fillet of fish previously fed with an algae-supplemented aquafeed(for comparison purposes,10%supplementation with fillet of fish standardly fed was also considered).Thereafter,mice were challenged by the genotoxicant methyl methanesulfonate(MMs),and the genetic damage was evaluated through the micronuclei ***,a wider evaluation was carried out encompassing the assessment of energy metabolism,haematological and histological parameters,as well as growth *** unequivocally protected against MMs-induced *** activity profile of hepatic lactate and isocitrate dehydrogenases promoted by the supplemented diets reflected an improved energy *** properties were not transferred via fish fed with the algae-supplemented aquafeed,though the transference of phytocomponents with beneficial properties(*** balance improvement)should not be ***,these findings highlighted the genoprotection afforded by marine macroalgae,likely promoted by desmutagenic factors,reinforcing their definition as functional *** possibility of using fish as an indirect source of algae-borne phytocomponents proved to be plausible and worthy of further investigations.

cardiovascular diseases (cVDs) are the leading global cause of mortality and disease burden. statins are the most prescribed lipid-lowering drugs to treat hypercholesterolemia and prevent cVDs. The biochemical mechanism of statins consists of competitive inhibition of the 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coA reductase enzyme (HMG-coAR)， the limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis. Due to statin intolerance in some patient groups， the search for new inhibitors is a field of great interest. This review focusses on the studies reporting the inhibitory effect of protein hydrolysates and biopeptides on the HMG-coAR enzyme activity. The analysis of the action mechanism and physicochemical characteristics of the HMG-coAR inhibitory peptides revealed that the molecular weight， amino acid composition， charge， and polarity are key aspects of the interaction with the HMG-coAR enzyme. In conclusion， this review reveals the potential of using food peptides as new cholesterol-lowering agents and opens a new interesting field of research. However， clinical approaches are mandatory to confirm their therapeutic hypercholesterolemic effect.

Background： The radical hysterectomy （RH） surgical technique has improved along the years. It is used for the treatment of cervical cancer, endometrial cancer when affecting the cervix, and upper vaginal carc.nomas. Our aim was to describe the historical evolution of the technique after the introduction of laparoseopy at our institution. Methods： We performed a retrospective review of medical records of patients who underwent RH, grouped in three periods according to the year of surgery： 1990-1999, 2000-2009 and 2010-2013. Patients＇ characteristics, pathologic details, intraoperative and postoperative complications were analyzed and comoared throughout the time periods. Results： A total of 102 cases of RH were performed at our center during the study period. Among all data collected, the presence of necrosis, age, number of lymph nodes, surgery route, operating time, hospital stay, blood loss and transfusion requirement were statistically significant different among groups. conversion to laparotomy rate was 19% for the second period compared to the absence of cases in the last one. No significant differences （P=0.124） were observed in the adjuvant treatment received among the three different groups. At the time of the last contact the patients free of disease were 12 （85.7%）, 53 （91.3%） and 26 （86.6%） respectively （P=0.406）. Regarding the disease-free interval, we found significant better outcomes in the group of laparotomy compared to laparoscopy （P=0.015）.conclusions： Laparoscopic RH is an acceptable surgery with advantages like magnified vision of the operation＇s field, lower surgical complications, shorter hospital stay and earlier resumption to daily activities.

AIM: To determine the repeatability and agreement of stereoacuity measurements made using some of the most widely used clinical tests: Frisby, TNO, Randot and ***: stereoacuity was measured in two different sessions separated by a time interval of at least 24 h but no longer than 1wk in 74 subjects of mean age 20.6y using the four methods. The study participants were divided into two groups: subjects with normal binocular vision and subjects with abnormal binocular ***: Best repeatability was shown by the Frisby and Titmus [coefficient of repeatability(cOR): ±13 and±12s arc respectively] in the subjects with normal binocular vision though a clear ceiling effect was *** the subjects with abnormal binocular vision, best repeatability was shown by the Frisby(cOR: ±69s arc)and Randot(cOR: ±72s arc). In both groups, the TNO test showed poorest agreement with the other ***:Therepeatabilityofstereoacuitymeasures was low in subjects with poor binocular vision yet fairly good in subjects with normal binocular vision with the exception of the TNO test. anabolic androgenic steroids (AAs) have several adverse effects on the cardiovascular system that may lead to a sudden cardiac death (scD).We herein report a case involving a 24-year-old male,AAs abuser with intramuscular delivery in the 6 months before,who suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest at home's bathtub when returning from New Year's party.A forensic autopsy was performed according to the guidelines of the Association for European cardiovascular Pathology (AEcVP).The body showed hypertrophy of skeletal musculature,with low amount of subcutaneous fat and no signs of injury (body mass index,BMh 26.8 kg/m^(2)).On internal examination,there were multiorgan congestion,acute pulmonary edema,and cardiomegaly (420 g) with severe coronary atherosclerosis and superimposed acute occlusive thrombosis at the left main trunk and left anterior *** of scarring were located at the intersection between the posterior wall and the posterior third of the septum (postero-septal).At histology,acute myocardial infarction at the anterior third of the septum and the anterior wall,and subacute myocardial infarction at apical septum and apical posterior wall were *** findings were small intramyocardial vessel disease and myocytes *** analysis in blood showed ethanol ((0.90 ±0.05) g/L),stanazolol (11.31 μg/L),nandrolone (2.05μg/L) and testosterone (confronted with a sudden death in a young athlete we must pay attention to the physical phenotype that may suggest AAs abuse and perform a detailed examination of the *** analysis is a key to establish the relationship between scD and AAs abuse.

BAcKGROUND Myocarditis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in children, leading to long-term sequelae including chronic congestive heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy, heart transplantation, and death. The initial diagnosis of myocarditis is usually based on clinical presentation, but this widely ranges from the severe sudden onset of a cardiogenic shock to asymptomatic patients. Early recognition is essential in order to monitor and start supportive treatment prior to the development of severe adverse events. Of note, many cases of fulminant myocarditis are usually misdiagnosed as otherwise minor conditions during the weeks before the unexpected *** To provide diagnostic clues to make an early recognition of pediatric *** investigate early predictors for poor *** We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional single-center study from January 2008 to November 2017 at the Pediatric Department of our institution, including children s-old diagnosed with myocarditis. Poor outcome was defined as the occurrence of any of the following facts: death, heart transplant, persistent left ventricular systolic dysfunction or dilation at hospital discharge(early poor outcome), or after 1 year of follow-up(late poor outcome). We analyzed different clinical features and diagnostic test findings in order to provide diagnostic clues for myocarditis in children.
