The ef.ects of.f.rtilization on crambe are poorly understood;in this sense, this study aimed to evaluate the crambe growth under dif.erent levels of.nitrogen (0, 40, 80, 120 kg·ha-1), phosphorus (0, 50, 100, 150 kg·ha-1), and potassium (0, 30, 60, 90 kg·ha-1) in a greenhouse. The height of.the plants, the production of.dried biomass and that of.1000 grains of.crambe were evaluated. The height of.the plants was impaired as a f.nction of.increasing doses of.nitrogen. The interaction of.nitrogen and phosphorus in the crambe crop increased the number of.grains and dry shoot biomass. The growth and yield of.the crop were not inf.uenced by the use of.potassium in mineral f.rtilization.

Salinity in soil or water in arid and semi arid regions can severely limit crop production, since the high amount of.NaCl contributes to specif.c ion ef.ects of.Cl-, Na+ or both, and to antagonistic ef.ects on nutrient elements. Af.ected by salt stress, most of.the cultivated plants do not f.lly express their growth potential, which lowers their economic value. Crambe (Crambe abyssinica) is an oil plant of.the crucif.rous f.mily and it is believed that crambe has great potential to f.gure as raw material f.r biof.el;however, literature is not abundant about the ef.ects of.salinity in crambe production. This work was carried out in order to evaluate the ef.ects on the development and productivity of.crambe irrigated with saline waters under greenhouse conditions. Treatments resulted f.om the combination of.two f.ctors: salinity of.irrigation water (ECw) in f.ve levels (1.03-control, 2.5, 4.0, 5.5, and 7.0 dS·m-1) and two types of.salts (NaCl and NaCl + CaCl2) with three replications, totaling 30 experimental plots. At the end of.the experimental period, soil samples f.om each plot were collected f.r chemical and salinity of.soil saturation extract analyzes. Salt types did not af.ect plant parameters. However, the salinity levels presented signif.cant ef.ects on the all plant parameters, decreasing their values with the increase of.the salt dose. Salinity levels of.the solutions used f.r irrigation in this study af.ected the growth of.plants and grain yield of.crambe. Regarding the type of.salts, a higher concentration of.Na was observed f.r NaCl solutions at 2.5, 4.0 and 5.5 dS·m-1 salinity levels.

This paper addresses the present-day context of.Systems Engineering, revisiting and setting up an updated f.amework f.r the SIMILAR process in order to use it to engineer the contemporary systems. The contemporary world is crowded of.large interdisciplinary complex systems made of.other systems, personnel, hardware, sof.ware, inf.rmation, processes, and f.cilities. An integrated holistic approach is crucial to develop these systems and take proper account of.their multif.ceted nature and numerous interrelationships. As the system＇s complexity and extent grow, the number of.parties involved （stakeholders and shareholders） usually also raises, bringing to the interaction a considerable amount of.points of.view, skills, responsibilities, and interests. The Systems Engineering approach aims to tackle the complex and interdisciplinary whole of.those socio-technical systems, providing the means to enable their successf.l realization. Its exploitation in our modern world is assuming an increasing relevance noticeable by emergent standards, academic papers, international conf.rences, and post-graduate programmes in the f.eld. This work aims to provide ＂the picture＂ of.modern Systems Engineering, and to update the context of.the SIMILAR process model in order to use this renewed f.amework to engineer the challenging contemporary systems. The emerging trends in the f.eld are also pointed-out with particular ref.rence to the Model-Based Systems Engineering approach.

The Suquia River,the largest urban river in Cordoba(Argentina),has been severely polluted f.r *** must be taken to restore its environmental quality by managing riparian zones f.r increased water-self.*** current study aimed to characterize organic matter(OM) dynamics and humic substances(HS) spectrochemical properties along the lower-middle basin of.the Suquia *** soil(0-20 cm) and sediment(0-10 cm) samples were collected f.om a ref.rence location(S1)and f.ur polluted sites(S2-S5) during a low-f.ow *** contents of.soil and sedimentary OM and HS f.actions were analyzed by wet oxidation,as well as HS f.urier transf.rm inf.ared(f.-IR) and ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis) spectrochemical *** OM and HS f.actions f.om riparian soil were high upstream of.Cordoba City(S1 and S2,50.2-50.4 g/kg OM) and within a 50 km downstream location(S5,30.9 g/kg OM) owing to a surplus of.f.esh plant biomass-carbon(C) *** heterogeneous sediment samples did not show any signif.cant dif.erences among sites(P> 0.05).The lowest values of.the ratio of.absorbances at 465 and 665 nm(E4/E6)(1.78) and the Δ log K(0.15) coef.icient(a measure of.HS maturity degree) were obtained downstream of.Cordoba City,f.r both riparian soil and sediment,indicating that HS were enriched by more condensed aromatic structures within highly degraded portions of.the *** samples exhibited similar IR spectra,implying overlapping recalcitrant-C structures at the f.nctional group level,but with dif.erent absorbance *** f.om the current study constitute a baseline f.r understanding the chemical nature of.HS f.om sediment and riparian soil along the Suquia River and can be used as a ref.rence f.r f.ture studies tracking OM compositional changes over time.

Bothrops envenomation is complex and provokes prominent local tissue damage and systemic disturbances,but little is known about their ef.ects on the male reproductive *** intratesticular injection,the bioactive peptide f.action(Bj-Pf.obtained f.om Bothrops jararaca snake venom changes the structure of.dif.erent stages of.the seminif.rous epithelium cycle in adult *** the f.rst time,we investigated whether local envenomation of.Bj-Pf.induces toxicological ef.ects on the male reproductive system,particularly on the seminif.rous epithelium and Sertoli *** adult mice were treated with 0.24 ***^(-1) by intramuscular(i.m.)injection f.r 24 *** testes samples were collected f.r morphological and morphometric *** toxicological ef.ects of.Bj-Pf.were also analyzed on mitochondrial metabolism and nitrite(NO2)production in 15P-1 Sertoli cell ***-Pf.changed the structure and f.nction of.the seminif.rous epithelium,particularly the disruption of.the epithelium and the presence of.degenerated germ cells in the adluminal compartment,but there were no alterations in the basal ***-Pf.increased the thickness of.the seminif.rous epithelium and decreased the lumen diameter of.the *** histological assessment of.the degree of.tubule degeneration revealed that Bj-Pf.also increased the number of.hypospermatogenic tubules compared to ***-Pf.reduced NO2 levels in 15P-1 Sertoli cells without changing the mitochondrial ***,the f.ct that Bj-Pf.alters the structure and f.nction of.the seminif.rous epithelium suggests that bioactive peptides f.und in *** snake venom can have toxicological ef.ects on the reproductive systems of.af.ected male mice,providing new insight into the biological characteristics of.snake venom and therapeutic strategies f.r envenomation inf.ammation.

This study aims to compare the grain protein prof.le of.f.ur Brazilian cowpea cultivars (BRS Aracê, BRS Itaim, BRS Pajeú, and BRS Xiquexique) by two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-de) and principal component analysis (PCA). 2-de ef.iciently separate cowpea protein prof.les, showing high homogeneity among the f.ur cultivars. In addition, the principal component analysis indicated that there is a dif.erence in abundance of.proteins among the cultivars. The cultivars BRS Aracê and BRS Xiquexique, both biof.rtif.ed in iron and zinc, were separated f.om the cultivars BRS Itaim and BRS Pajeú. These results demonstrate that protein prof.les can be used to discriminate cowpea varieties.

The suicide phenomenon involves complex interactions between psychological,biological,cultural and socio-environmental *** study aimed to assess the epidemiological and toxicological prof.les of.of.icially conf.rmed suicide *** study was perf.rmed using autopsy reports,f.rensic anthropology examinations and police summaries of.all suicide cases that underwent toxicological analysis at an Of.icial f.rensic Laboratory(Minas Gerais,Brazil)in 1 *** sample set was composed of.351 suicide victims,predominantly men(70.32%),most of.them were adults between 31 and 64 years old(62.11%),with mixed skin colour(48.89%)and low educational level(66.44%).The most common suicide method was hanging(57.79%),f.llowed by intoxication(30.45%).Most victims presented positive toxicological results(56.41%),especially f.r the presence of.medicines(37.6%),illicit drugs(36.3%)and pesticides(26.1%).Our study corroborated previous data that most suicide victims have low educational *** most common toxicological f.ndings were medicines,especially prescription drugs,f.llowed by illicit drugs and *** hope this study contributes to ref.ections and planning of.preventive suicide programmes,considering the described prof.les of.victims.

Human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1(HTLV-1)is associated with the development of.HTLV-1-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis(HAM/TSP).It has been reported that the HTLV-1 proteins(specif.cally TAX and HBZ)can modulate f.Xp3,resulting in an immune imbalance that can f.vor the progression of.HAM/*** review aims to summarize the literature in order to clarif. the relationship between the expression of.HTLV-1 m RNAs and/or viral proteins(TAX and HBZ)with the expression of.mRNA and/or protein f.Xp3 and their correlation with HAM/TSP *** systematic review was conducted according to the recommendations of.the Pref.rred Reporting Items f.r Systematic Reviews and *** search strategy was perf.rmed on the Medical Literature analysis and Retrieval System Online and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences Platf.rm using subject *** screening,six articles were included in this *** studies suggested that TAX and HBZ have a directly proportional correlation with f.Xp3 in individuals with HAM/TSP,which also presented an increased expression of.f.Xp3 compared to asymptomatic controls and/or healthy *** systematic review indicates that TAX and HBZ can interact with f.Xp3 and that interaction may inf.uence HAM/TSP development.

A thrombin-like serine protease, jararassin-I, was isolated f.om the venom of.Bothrops jararaca. The protein was obtained in high yield and purity by a single chromatographic step using the af.inity resin Benzamidine-Sepharose CL-6B. SDS-PAGE and dynamic light scattering analyses indicated that the molecular mass of.the enzyme was about 30 kD. The enzyme possessed f.brinogenolytic and coagulant activities. The jararassin-I degraded the Bβ chain of.f.brinogen while theAα chain and γ chain were unchanged. Proteases inhibitors, PMSf.and benzamidine inhibited the coagulant activity. These results showed jararassin- I is a serine protease similar to coagulating thrombin-like snake venom proteases, but it specif.cally cleaves Bβ chain of.bovine f.brinogen. Single crystals of.enzyme were obtained (0.2 mm×0.2 mm×0.2 mm) and used f.r X-ray dif.raction experiments.
