Endophyte infection of Festuca eskia enhances seedling survival to drought and cutting at the expense of clonal expansion

symbiotic relationships between fungal endophytes and grass species are known to increase stress resistance in the grass host;however,there is little evidence to suggest that the positive effects occur early in the grass life *** this study,we explored the effects of the endophyte Epichloe¨festucae on the growth and survival of Festuca eskia seedlings under drought and frequent cutting *** Festuca eskia seedlings were collected from the western part of the plant repartition area in a non-symbiotic population located in a mesic and heavily grazed site(W-Ns)and from the eastern part in a symbiotic population from a xeric and lightly grazed site(E-s).The E-s population was experimentally freed from its endophyte(E-F).Two greenhouse experiments were conducted to compare growth and survival between the three seedling types under drought stress and frequent *** the first experiment,126 seedlings per seedling type(n=378)were grown for 6 weeks under non-limiting conditions before the cessation of *** 3 weeks without irrigation,full irrigation was restored for 10 days to measure the survival *** length,leaf elongation rate and survival rate were assessed per *** the second experiment,156 seedlings per seedling type(n=468)were grown under non-limiting *** seedlings were cut to 3 cmhigh,twice a week,during the first month of *** elongation and tillering were monitored on 52 seedlings per seedling *** each type,seedling survival rate was determined by the number of plants alive after 10 days of regrowth,without *** Findings The drought experiment revealed a phenotypic differentiation to drought in 30 *** populations,suggesting adaptive differentiation:the eastern seedlings showed the highest survival rate.A tradeoff between growth and survival was highlighted:the highest drought survival rate was associated with the lowest leaf elongation rate under non-limiting water ***

Peanut is a worldwide oilseed crop and the need to assess germplasm in a non-destructive manner is important for seed nutritional *** this study,Near Infrared spectroscopy(NIRs)was applied to rapidly assess germplasm variability from whole seed of 699 samples,field-collected and assembled in four genetic and environmentbased sets:one set of 300 varieties of a core-collection and three sets of 133 genotypes of an interspecific population,evaluated in three environments in a large spatial scale of two countries,Mbalmayo and Bafia in Cameroon and Nioro in senegal,under rainfed *** elemental spectra were gathered on six subsets of seeds of each sample,after three rotation scans,with a spectral resolution of 16 cm-1over the spectral range of867 nm to 2530 *** were then processed by principal component analysis(PCA)coupled with Partial least squares-discriminant analysis(PLs-DA).As results,a huge variability was found between varieties and genotypes for all NIR wavelength within and between *** magnitude of genetic variation was particularly observed at 11 relevant wavelengths such as 1723 nm,usually related to oil content and fatty acid *** yielded the most chemical attributes in three significant PCs(i.e.,eigenvalues>10),which together captured 93%of the total variation,revealing genetic and environment structure of varieties and genotypes into four clusters,corresponding to the four samples *** pattern of genetic variability of the interspecific population covers,remarkably half of spectrum of the core-collection,turning out to be the ***,a PLs-DA model was developed and a strong accuracy of 99.6%was achieved for the four sets,aiming to classify each seed sample according to environment *** confusion matrix achieved for the two sets of Bafia and Nioro showed 100%of instances classified correctly with 100%at both sensitivity and specificity,confirming that their seed quality was different f

利用IssRPCR方法对香港羊蹄甲属(Bauhinia)中最常见3种园艺树种:红花羊蹄甲(***)、宫粉羊蹄甲(***)和洋紫荆(***)的遗传变异进行了研究,从74个IssR引物中筛选出9个多态性引物用于正式扩增,共扩增出80条DNA带,平均每个引物扩增的DNA带的数目为8.88条,多态性条带数目为55条,占总条带数的68.8%。其中,有8个引物扩增出差异条带和特异条带,并分别能准确地鉴定羊蹄甲属3个园艺树种。本研究的结果表明,IssR-PCR的DNA电泳谱带在检测香港羊蹄甲(***)品种的真实性方面非常有用。同时,通过对3个种扩增条带的叠加性进行分析,证实了洋紫荆杂交起源的父母本为红花羊蹄甲和宫粉羊蹄甲。

Multi-Decadal Trends of Global surface Temperature:A Broken Line with Alternating~30 yr Linear segments?

We investigate global temperature data produced by the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia (CRU) and the Berkeley Earth surface Temperature consortium (BEsT). We first fit the 1850-2010 data with polynomials of degrees 1 to 9. A significant ~60-yr oscillation is accounted for as soon as degree 4 is reached. This oscillation is even better modeled as a broken line, more precisely a series of ~30-yr long linear segments, with slope breaks (singularities) in ~1904, ~1940, and ~1974 (±3 yr), and a possible recent occurrence at the turn of the 20th century. Oceanic indices PDO (Pacific Decadal Oscillation) and AMO (Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation) have undergone major changes (respectively of sign and slope) roughly at the same times as the temperature slope breaks. This can be interpreted with a system of oceanic non-linear coupled oscillators with abrupt mode shifts. Thus, the Earth’s climate may have entered a new mode (a new ~30-yr episode) near the turn of the 20th century: no further temperature increase, a dominantly negative PDO index and a decreasing AMO index might be expected for the next decade or two.

Lipid Profile and Antioxidant Activity of Macadamia Nuts (<i>Macadamia integrifolia</i>) Cultivated in Venezuela

Macadamia nuts (Macadamia integrifolia) grown in Venezuela have showed an average total fat content of 70%. Oleic acid (18:1) was the main monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) (51.3%), followed by palmitoleic acid (16:1, 22.6%). The content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), C18:2 and C18:3 represented 5.4%. Thus, MUFAs and PUFAs together constituted more than 80% of the total fatty acids present. Trans-vaccenic acid was also present (3%). As regards to other phytochemical compounds, tocopherols and tocotrienols were not found in the sample, but the presence of squalene was *** antioxidant activity (44.2%) of the extract was produced by the phytochemicals present.

基于单因素微动力学理论,开发计算机算法生成了甲醇合成汽油和柴油工艺的复杂反应网络。算法采用布尔矩阵和特征向量表示烃类分子和碳正离子,并对反应网络中涉及到的所有链烃和环烃结构采用标准编码确保每一个烃类的数字代表形式不重复。进一步通过布尔矩阵的逻辑运算实现反应网络中所有的单元反应,而所有涉及在反应网络中的烃类物种都采用特征向量的形式储存,在算法中烃类的布尔矩阵形式和特征向量形式的相互转换有效的实现了反应网络的储存和拓展。由于甲醇合成汽油和柴油工艺反应网络涉及到上百万不同的烃类物种,为了在计算机中高效的实现反应网络,智能存储算法模块是整个算法中不可缺少的部分。

近年来,国内频发的国际职业足球运动员合同违约纠纷已成为社会各界关注的热点问题。许多国内俱乐部在国际球员合同违约纠纷中败诉或赔偿,巴里奥斯案是国内俱乐部第1次在国际球员合同违约纠纷中获胜并得到高额赔偿的案件。通过巴里奥斯案对国际球员合同违约纠纷所涉及的争议管辖、法律适用、赔偿及裁决的执行等问题进行分析,国际足球职业球员合同违约纠纷受国际足联或国际体育仲裁院管辖;国际足联、国际体育仲裁院的相关规则和判例都是处理此类纠纷的重要依据;国际足联、国际体育仲裁院对国际球员合同违约赔偿计算有明确的规定,也在判例中形成了一定的计算原则,并阐述了赔偿金额计算的影响因素;职业足球已形成强大的行业体系,一般来说,国际足联、国际体育仲裁院决定都能得到很好的执行。因此,国内的国际足球运动员合同违约纠纷一般向国际足联或国际体育仲裁院申诉,掌握和充分运用国际足联和国际体育仲裁院的规则及判例是国内足球俱乐部解决国际球员合同违约纠纷的关键。赔偿的计算除了需要掌握相关规则及判例外,还要了解赔偿金额的影响因素,对于国际足联、国际体育仲裁院的决定在国内的执行则无须疑虑。此外,遵守相关法律和规则,并及时有效地处理纠纷也是国内俱乐部在处理合同违约争议中有效维护自身权益的重要方面。
