A thin circular liquid sheet can be formed by impinging two identical round jets against each other. The liquid sheet expands to a certain critical radial distance and breaks. The unsteady process of the formation and breakup of the liquid sheet in the ambient gas is simulated numerically. Both liquid and gas are treated as incompressible Newtonian fluids. The flow considered is axisymmetric. The liquid-gas interface is modeled with a level set function. A finite difference scheme is used to solve the governing Navier-stokes equations with physical boundary conditions. The numerical results show how a thin circular sheet can be formed and break at its circular edge in slow motion. The sheet continues to thin as it expands radially. hence, the Weber number decreases radially. The Weber number is defined as ρu 2 h/σ, where ρ and σ are, respectively, the liquid density and the surface tension, and u and h are, respectively, the average velocity and the half sheet thickness at a local radial location in the liquid sheet. The numerical results show that the sheet indeed terminates at a radial location, where the Weber number reaches one as observed in experiments. The spatio-temporal linear theory predicts that the breakup is initiated by the sinuous mode at the critical Weber number We c =1, below which the absolute instability occurs. The other independent mode called the varicose mode grows more slowly than the sinuous mode according to the linear theory. however, our numerical results show that the varicose mode actually overtakes the sinuous mode during the nonlinear evolution, and is responsible for the final breakup. The linear theory predicts the nature of disturbance waves correctly only at the onset of the instability, but cannot predict the exact consequence of the instability.

The Psycho-social Impact of Urinary Incontinence on the Quality of Life among Kuwaiti Women with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

This study was conducted to determine the psycho-social impact of urinary incontinence (UI) on the quality of life of 250 Kuwaiti women with type 2 diabetic mellitus (DM). A survey method, using a 33-item 5-point Likert scale Arabic questionnaire adapted from the King’s health Questionnaire (KhQ), was employed for data collection from February to May, 2014 while all the participants were receiving treatment for UI at a specialized urology center in Kuwait. Participants with UI and a co-morbidity of type 2 DM and obesity were 20 to 65 years old. Results showed the following variables were statistically significant for frequency of urine leak: Age was (χsup>2sup> = 36.877, df = 3, P ≤ 0.000). Parity showed nulliparous women reported less urine leak compared to parous women: Chi-square was (χsup>2sup> = 24.83, df = 12, P ≤ 0.016). Type 2 DM for more than 3 years duration had the highest incidence of several leaks per day. BMI of above 25 kg/m2 caused daily urine leak: Chi-square (χsup>2sup> = 17.912, df = 9, P ≤ 0.036). Participants’ self reports of good general health were those who leaked urine either 2 - 3 times weekly or occasionally. Finally, the impact of incontinence on their lifestyle was reported as extreme by 128 (51.2%), and 6 (2.4%) reported little or no impact on their quality of life: Chi-square was (χsup>2sup> = 52.392, df = 18, P ≤ 0.000). In conclusion, this study showed a clear correlation between UI and reduced quality of life. Midwives are well positioned to correct the myth that UI is an inevitable byproduct of childbearing. Midwives should explain to all pregnant women how childbirth can be a risk factor and provide anticipatory guidance by teaching preventive measures like pelvic floor exercises before and after delivery. Family members should assist sufferers in coping with their challenges by dispelling any form of stigmatization, joining them in practicing pelvic floor exercises, and encouraging,

Ambient air pollution in China has worsened following dramatic increases in industrialization, automobile use and energy consumption. Particularly bothersome is the increase in the PM2.5 fraction of pollutants. This fraction has been associated with increasing rates of cardio-respiratory disease in China and elsewhere. Ambient pollutant levels have been described in many of China＇s cities and are comparable to previous levels in southern California. Lung cancer mortality in China has increased since the 1970s and has been higher in men and in urban areas, the exact explanation for which has not been determined. The estimation of individual risk for Chinese citizens living in areas of air pollution will require further research. Occupational cohort and casecontrol designs each have unique attributes that could make them helpful to use in this setting. Other important future research considerations include detailed exposure assessment and the possible use of biomarkers as a means to better understand and manage the threat posed by air pollution in China.

The CAsTRIP* process produces a range of high strength Ultra-thin Cast strip (UCs) products (380-550 MPa) in thicknesses between 0.9 mm and 1.5 mm, which is very challenging to produce via conventional hot and cold rolled processing routes. The twin roll CAsTRIP process fully exploits the hardenability and strengthening potential of Nb in a low C-Mn-Nb-V microalloyed steel type. significant microstructural strengthening from solute Nb was obtained, even at low microalloying levels, as well as modest Mn additions, through enhancing the hardenability and further strengthening was obtained in coated products by exploiting age hardening during processing on a continuous hot dip galvanising line. Atom probe tomography and TEM determined that Nb was retained in solid solution and subsequent age hardening resulted from the formation of Nb and V rich nanosized particles. Age hardening was achieved without loss of ductility producing galvanised strip with an excellent strength-ductility combination (Y.s. >600 MPa, T.E. >10%).

中国东部苏鲁地区(江苏赣榆)出露大理岩-榴辉岩块体,其菱镁矿大理岩中保存的白云石分解结构表明地壳物质俯冲深度达到-200公里。在与该大理岩共生的榴辉岩中,我们发现了磷灰石的磁黄铁矿出溶结构。磷灰石是该榴辉岩的主要副矿物,其自形程度较高,与石榴石共生。样品中几乎所有磷灰石均发育出溶结构,至少存在两组相互垂直的出溶棒,它们各自严格沿同一个方向分布。出溶棒形状规则,宽度相近(s两种元素组成,但不能准确地确定其Fe/s比值。我们把这种出溶棒初步确定为磁黄铁矿(Fe1-xs)。磷灰石由于含大量稀土元素和挥发性组分如Oh、F、Cl等以及我们所观察到的s,它的深循环因此可能对地球的水、硫以及其它挥发性组分的全球平衡具有重要影响。本文报道的磷灰石中磁黄铁矿出溶结构为深入探讨这个基本科学问题提供了一个新的突破口。

Pedotransfer functions(PTFs) have been developed to estimate soil water retention curves(sWRC) by various *** this study PTFs were developed to estimate the parameters(θ s,θ r,α and λ) of the Brooks and Corey model from a data set of 148 *** and aggregate size distribution fractal parameters(PsDFPs and AsDFPs,respectively) were computed from three fractal models for either particle or aggregate size *** most effective model in each group was determined by sensitivity *** with the other variables,the selected fractal parameters were employed to estimate sWRC using multi-objective group method of data handling(mGMDh) and different topologies of artificial neural networks(ANNs).The architecture of ANNs for parametric PTFs was different regarding the type of ANN,output layer transfer functions and the number of hidden *** parameter was estimated using four PTFs by the hierarchical entering of input variables in the *** inclusion of PsDFPs in the list of inputs improved the accuracy and reliability of parametric PTFs with the exception of θ *** textural fraction variables in PTF1 for the estimation of α were replaced with PsDFPs in *** use of AsDFPs as inputs significantly improved α estimates in the *** result highlights the importance of AsDFPs in developing parametric *** mGMDh technique performed significantly better than ANNs in most PTFs.
