BACKGRoUnD The prevalence of heart failure(HF)increases with age,and it is one of the leading causes of hospitalization and death in older ***,there are little data on in-hospital mortality in patients with HF≥75 years in *** A retrospective analysis of the Spanish Minimum Basic Data Set was performed,including all HF episodes discharged from public hospitals in Spain between 2016 and *** was performed using the International Classification of Diseases,10th ***≥75 years with HF as the principal diagnosis were *** calculated:(1)the crude in-hospital mortality rate and its distribution according to age and sex;(2)the risk-standardized in-hospital mortality ratio;and(3)the association between in-hospital mortality and the availability of an intensive cardiac care unit(ICCU)in the *** We included 354,792 HF episodes of patients over 75 *** mean age was 85.2±5.5 years,and 59.2%of patients were *** most frequent comorbidities were renal failure(46.1%),diabetes mellitus(35.5%),valvular disease(33.9%),cardiorespiratory failure(29.8%),and hypertension(26.9%).In-hospital mortality was 12.7%,and increased with age[odds ratio(oR)=1.07,95%CI:1.07–1.07,pnd was lower in women(oR=0.96,95%CI:0.92–0.97,pn predictors of mortality were the presence of cardiogenic shock(oR=19.5,95%CI:16.8–22.7,poke(oR=3.5,95%CI:3.0–4.0,pnd advanced cancer(oR=2.6,95%CI:2.5–2.8,pn hospitals with ICCU,the in-hospital risk-adjusted mortality tended to be lower(oR=0.85,95%CI:0.72–1.00,p=0.053).ConCLUSIonS In-hospital mortality in patients with HF≥75 years between 2016 and 2019 was 12.7%,higher in males and elderly *** main predictors of mortality were cardiogenic shock,stroke,and advanced *** was a trend toward lower mortality in centers with an ICCU.

Rainfall Sensitivity to Microphysics and planetary Boundary Layer parameterizations in Convection-permitting Simulations over northwestern South America

Convection-permitting modeling allows us to understand mechanisms that influence rainfall in specific ***,microphysics parameterization(Mp) and planetary boundary layer(pBL) schemes remain an important source of uncertainty,affecting rainfall intensity,occurrence,duration,and ***,we study the sensitivity of rainfall to three Mp [Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF) Single-Moment 6-class(WSM6),Thompson,and Morrison] and two pBL [the Yonsei University(YSU) and Mellor–Yamada nakanishi niino(MYnn)] schemes with a convection-permitting resolution(4 km) over northwestern South America(nWSA).Simulations were performed by using the WRF model and the results were evaluated against soundings,rain gauges,and satellite data,considering the spatio-temporal variability of rainfall over diverse regions prone to deep convection in *** and pBL schemes largely influenced simulated rainfall,with better results for the less computationally expensive WSM6 Mp and YSU pBL *** rain gauges and satellite estimates,simulations with Morrison Mp overestimated rainfall,especially westward of the Andes,whereas the MYnn pBL underestimated precipitation in the Amazon–Savannas *** found that the uncertainty in the rainfall representation is highly dependent on the region,with a higher influence of Mp in the Colombian pacific and pBL in the Amazon–Savannas *** analyzing rainfall-related processes,the selection of both Mp and pBL parameterizations exerted a large influence on the simulated lower tropospheric moisture flux and moisture *** schemes significantly influenced the downward shortwave radiation,with MYnn simulating a greater amount of low clouds,which decreased the radiation ***,latent heat fluxes were greater for YSU,favoring moist convection and *** schemes had a marked impact on vertical ***,Morrison Mp showed stronger convection and higher precipitation rates,which is assoc

Impact of device resistances in the performance of graphene-based terahertz photodetectors

In recent years, graphene field-effect-transistors(GFETs) have demonstrated an outstanding potential for terahertz(THz) photodetection due to their fast response and high-sensitivity. Such features are essential to enable emerging THz applications, including 6G wireless communications, quantum information, bioimaging and security. However, the overall performance of these photodetectors may be utterly compromised by the impact of internal resistances presented in the device, so-called access or parasitic resistances. In this work, we provide a detailed study of the influence of internal device resistances in the photoresponse of high-mobility dual-gate GFET detectors. Such dual-gate architectures allow us to fine tune(decrease) the internal resistance of the device by an order of magnitude and consequently demonstrate an improved responsivity and noise-equivalent-power values of the photodetector, respectively. our results can be well understood by a series resistance model, as shown by the excellent agreement found between the experimental data and theoretical calculations. These findings are therefore relevant to understand and improve the overall performance of existing high-mobility graphene photodetectors.

Celecoxib enhances the detoxification of diethylnitrosamine in rat liver cancer

AIM： To study the effect of celecoxib （CXB） on diethylnitrosamine activation through the regulation of cytochrome p450 in a hepatocarcinogenesis ***： Six-week-old male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into five groups, a non-treated group （nT）, a diethylnitrosamine-treated group （DEn）, a DEn＋CXB-treated group （DEn＋CXB）,and CXB 8 d-treated and CXB 32 d-treated groups. The effects of celecoxib on the enzymatic activities of CYp1A1, 2A, 2B1/2, and 2E1 were assessed in hepatic microsomes 24 h after DEn *** in CYpIA1 and CYp2B1/2 protein expression were also evaluated. The rate of DEn metabolism was measured by the production of the deethylation metabolite acetaldehyde, and the denitrosation metabolite ***： DEn＋CXB administration produced a significant increase in the enzymatic activities ofCYp2B1/2 and 1A1, whereas it did not change the activities of CYp2A and 2E1, compared to that of the DEn group. CXB treatment for eight days did not produce a significant effect on enzymatic activity when compared to the nT group; however, when it was administered for prolonged times （CXB 32 d group）,the enzymatic activities were increased in a similar pattern to those in the DEn＋CXB group. The observed increase in the enzymatic activities in the DEn＋CXB group was accompanied by an increase in the CYp2B1/2 protein levels; no changes were observed in the levels of CYpIA1. In vitro, CXB increased the denitrosation of DEn, a pathway of metabolic detoxification. The addition of SKF-525A, a preferential inhibitor of CYp2B, abrogated the denitrosation of ***： These results suggest that the mechanism of action of CXB involves enhancement of the detoxification of DEn by an increasing denitrosation via CYp2B1/2.

Demographic trends and climate over 35 years in the Barro Colorado 50 ha plot

Background： The first three censuses of the 50-ha plot at Barro Colorado Island spanned an unusually harsh dry season during the 1983 El nitro. By the early 1990s, we had documented increases in tree mortality, tree growth, and large population fluctuations of many species during the 1982-1985 census interval. At the time, we asserted that increasing drought frequency would greatly affect the forest. With the benefit of five more censuses at Barro Colorado from 1995-2015, we can now put the 1980 conditions in a longer perspective and test the hypothesis that increasing droughtiness has continued to change the forest. Methods： A 50-ha forest plot on Barro Colorado Island was censused eight times, in 1982 and every five years since 1985. All free-standing woody stems were measured, mapped, and identified in each census. Results： 1） The period 1982-1992 included several extreme dry seasons, not just 1983, but since then there have been few such droughts. 2） Dbh growth declined from a peak in the early 1980s to its lowest in the early 1990s. From 1995-2015 it increased slightly, but not returning to the initial peak. nearly every species and all dbh categories followed the same pattern. 3） The elevated stand-wide mortality rate of large trees during the 1982-1985 drought has not returned, and most individual species showed the same pattern of elevated mortality in the 1980s followed by low and fairly stable mortality after 1990. 4） Sapling mortality declined after 198,5, but rose again in the late-90s, so the 1980s drought period no longer looks unusual. Mortality of individual species＇ saplings fluctuated erratically, including cases where mortality during the drought was lower than after. 5） population sizes of individual species fluctuated in all possible directions. The development and implementation of sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices are indispensable as alternatives to pesticide use and to keep populations of soil-borne plant pathogens at levels that do not affect crop *** present research evaluates the incidence of soil-borne phytopathogens on the pineapple variety MD-2,which was subjected to different treatments:Incorporation of Crotalaria juncea into the soil(organic amendment),application of dolomitic lime to soil(inorganic amendment),and the use of plastic mulch covering the *** the crop cycle(15 months),the following variables were evaluated:plant height(cm),fruit weight(kg·plant^(−1)),crop yield(ton·ha^(−1)),the bud root disease incidence caused by phytophthora nicotianae,number of soil phytoparasitic nematodes and colony-forming-units(CFUs)of soil fungi and *** results indicate that Crotalaria juncea treatment reduced the pathogen population(nematode and oomycetes)at levels that did not affect crop development,so that yield increased(18–20%).The incorporation of *** into the soil as an organic amendment favors the populations of fungi disease suppressors(Trichoderma-Aspergillus).The phytoparasitic nematodes(Meloidogyne sp.,pratylenchus sp.,and Mesocriconema sp.)and oomycetes(phytophthora spp.,and pythium spp.)showed a reduction of their population levels by effects of organic amendment(***).The plastic mulch was also effective,probably due to the maintenance of optimal condition to crop growth and weed ***,the dolomitic lime application had the poorest effect under the conditions of the study area on the variables *** described observations are characteristics of a system-based approach for the potential management of soil-borne pathogens of pineapple MD-2 in Veracruz,México.

A model is proposed herein to investigate the incipient sliding of contacts in the presence of both friction and adhesion,where the interfacial response is modeled based on traction-separation laws.A Maugis-like parameter is defined to characterize the response in the tangential ***,the model is used to investigate the contact between a smooth cylinder and a flat body,where adhesion-friction interactions are strong.A range of behaviors are observed when a tangential displacement is imposed:When the parameter is low,the contact pressure exhibits a relatively constant profile;when it is high,a pressure spike is observed at the edge of the *** difference is caused by a significant interface compliance in the former case,which limits the amount of *** results for the mid-range values of the Maugis-like parameter can qualitatively replicate various experiments performed using polydimethylsiloxane(pDMS)balls.

Helminth parasites of freshwater fishes from Cuatro Ciénegas,Coahuila,in the Chihuahuan Desert of Mexico:inventory and biogeographical implications

As part of an.on.oing inventory of the helminth parasites of freshwater fishes in Mexico, 570 individual fish were collected between Apr 2008 and oct 2011 in 26 localities along the Cuatro Ciénegas region in Coahuila State, northern Mexico. Seventeen species of hosts, mostly corresponding to nearctic freshwater elements, were studied. A total of 8324 individual worms were collected during this survey, representing 25 species of helminths, of which 9 were digeneans, 3 monogeneans, 3 acanthocephalans, 9 nematodes and 1 cestode. Most of the records in this checklist represent new host or locality records. The information provided in this checklist may be helpful for our understanding of the biodiversity and historical biogeography of this host-parasite system, because in the Cuatro Ciénegas region occur a nearctic freshwater fish fauna, along with neotropical and endemic elements, and from a biogeographical point of view, this may represent a transitional area.
