diet composition and its ecological drivers are rarely investigated in coexisting closely related *** used a molecular approach to characterize the seasonal variation in diet composition in four spiny lizard species inhabiting a mountainous *** metabarcoding revealed that the lizards Sceloporus aeneus,***,***,and *** mostly consumed arthropods of the orders hemiptera,Araneae,hymenoptera,and *** terrestrial lizards *** and *** mostly predated ants and spiders,whereas the arboreal–saxicolous *** and saxicolous *** largely consumed grasshoppers and *** taxonomic and phylogenetic diversity of the prey was higher during the dry season than the rainy season,likely because reduced prey availability in the dry season forced lizards to diversify their diets to meet their nutritional *** and phylogenetic composition varied seasonally depending on the species,but only dietary composition varied with *** dietary turnover was greater in *** than in ***,suggesting site-specific seasonal variability in prey availability;no other differences among species were ***,which lives at the highest altitude in our study site,displayed interseasonal variation in diet *** differences were correlated with the species’feeding strategies and elevational distribution,which likely contributed to the coexistence of these lizard species in the studied geographic area and beyond.

ndividuals that inhabit broad elevational ranges may experience unique environmental *** temperature decreases with increased elevation,the ectotherms living at high elevations have to manage limited activity time and high thermoregulatory *** resting metabolic rate(RMR)of a postabsorptive animal is related to its total energy requirements as well as many other fitness *** lizards(Sceloporus grammicus)living on la Malinche Volcano,Mexico,inhabit a wide elevational range with some populations apparently thriving above the tree *** measured the RMR of lizards from different elevations(i.e.,2,600,3,200,and 4,100 m)at four ecologically relevant temperatures(i.e.,15,25,30,and 35°C)and found that RMR of mesquite lizards increased with temperature and body *** importantly,lizards from the high-elevation population h.d mass specific RMR that was higher at all *** the higher RMRs of high-elevation populations imply higher metabolic costs at a given temperature these lizards were also *** of these traits may allow these high elevation populations to thrive in the face of the thermal challenges imposed by their environment.

Comparative analysis of two nonlethal meth.ds for the study of the gut bacterial communities in wild lizards

Fecal samples or cloacal swabs are preferred over lethal dissections to study vertebrate gut microbiota for ethical reasons,but it remains unclear which nonlethal meth.ds provide more accurate information about gut *** compared the bacterial communities of three gastrointestinal tract(GIT)segments,that is,stomach,small intestine(midgut),and rectum(hindgut)with the bacterial communities of the cloaca and feces in the mesquite lizard Sceloporus *** hindgut h.d the highest taxonomic and functional alpha diversity,followed by midgut and feces,whereas the stomach and cloaca showed the lowest *** taxonomic assemblages of the GIT segments at the phylum level were strongly correlated with those retrieved from feces and cloacal swabs(rs>0.84 in all cases).The turnover ratio of Amplicon Sequence Variants(ASVs)between midgut and hindgut and the feces was lower than the ratio between these segments and the *** than half of the core-ASVs in the midgut(24 of 32)and hindgut(58 of 97)were also found in feces,while less than 5 were found in the *** the ASVs level,however,the structure of the bacterial communities of the midgut and hindgut were similar to those detected in feces and *** findings suggest that fecal samples and cloacal swabs of spiny lizards provide a good approximation of the taxonomic assemblages and beta diversity of midgut and hindgut microbiota,while feces better represent the bacterial communities of the intestinal segments at a single nucleotide variation level than cloacal swabs.

ENSO impacts on litter stocks and water holding capacity in secondary forests in eastern Amazonia

Among the impacts of climate change,there is the intensification of phenomena such as the El Niño South-ern Oscillation(ENSO)responsible for El Niño and la Niñ***,understanding their effects on the functional pro-cesses of forests is ***,this study evaluated the effects of ENSO on litter stock and water holding capac-ity(WhC)in a successional forest in eastern *** occurred in periods with the most rainfall in El Niño(2019)and least in la Niña(2021)*** permanent plots were used to sample *** effects were evident for WhC,higher during El Niñ***,this influence was not clear for litter,as only in the rainy season effects were *** was a positive correlation of WhC with precipitation and humidity,while litter stocks were negatively correlated with temperature and wind *** the subject of this study requires long-term assessments,preliminary results suggests that,depending on the intensity of ENSO,forest functional processes can be strongly impacted and *** conclusion reinforces warnings by the scientific community about the impacts of climate change on the maintenance of litter stocks,decomposition and,consequently,the biogeochemical cycle and essential ecosystem services for the maintenance of Amazonia *** need to develop long-term research to understand the effects of climatic change on litter stocks and water holding capacity is highlighted,especially in Amazonia.

The horizontal to vertical spectral ratio(hVSR)meth.dology is used here to characterize pumice soils and to image the three-dimensional surface geometry of Guadalajara,*** to other latin American cities,Guadalajara is exposed to high seismic risk,with the particularity of being the largest urban settlement in latin America built on pumice *** has not yet been tested to characterize subsoil depths in pumice *** to the questionable use of traditional geotechnical tests for the analysis of pumice soils,hVSR provides an alternative for its characterization without altering its fragile and porous *** this work,resonance frequency(F0)and peak amplitude(A0)are used to constrain the depth of the major impedance contrast that represents the interface between bedrock and pumice *** were compared with borehole depths and other available geotechnical and geophysical data and show good *** of the profiles estimated on the riverbanks that cross the city,reveals different subsoil thickness that could have an impact on different site responses on riverine areas to an eventual *** and academic efforts are combined in this work to characterize depth sediments,an important parameter that impacts the regulations for construction in the city.

Solid-liquid extraction for yttrium recovery using porous polymeric resin（XAd-7） functionalized with.d2EhpA

The recovery of yttrium is proposed by applying a solid-liquid extraction process using di-2-ethyl hexylphosphoric acid（d2EhpA） as extracting *** extracting agents were supported on a macro porous polymeric resin XAd-7（solid phase）.Yttrium ions extraction and discharge tests were performed,firstly from a synthetic aqueous solution of 100 mg/L Y（liquid phase） at 25℃ with *** effects of ph of aqueous solutions bearing yttrium,volume fraction of extracting agents and the solid/liquid（S/L）ratio on the yttrium recovery were *** most favorable conditions for yttrium ions extraction are;20 vol% d2EhpA functionalized resin,ph=1.5 and an S/L ratio of 10 mg/mL The discharge of yttrium ions was done under the same conditions of extraction stage,using a 2 mol/L [h2SO4] as stripping *** to 80% yttrium is extracted,while 75% yttrium is recovered in the striping *** all experiments,the reaction equilibrium is reach.d after 20 min,and the kinetics for the extraction stage was determined as a second-order ***,experiments were carried out to discharge the yttriumloaded resins,and it has been determined that the best ph value to strip the Y ions is *** tests of extraction and discharge for yttrium ions show that the functionalized resin can work at least five cycles without decreasing its ***,the proposed process was tested in a real solution with Y ions fro m a waste fluorescent la mp powder leach.d in h2SO4,demonstrating the ability to effectively recover yttrium,separating it from various metals from the studied residue.

Anchoring heterometallic cluster on p-doped carbon nitride for efficient photocatalytic nitrogen fixation in water and air ambient

Light-driven nitrogen fixation to produce ammonia is a green and economical technology of nitrogen reduction but is still quite challenging, especially in an air atmosphere without any sacrificial ***, we demonstrate efficient photocatalytic nitrogen fixation using water and air directly by loading lanthanide–transition metal(4f–3d) cluster NdCo_(3) on two-dimensional p-doped graphitic carbon nitrides(pCN) material surface. Benefiting from the increase in the number of nitrogen vacancies(NVs) and highly match.d band gap structure and excellent hole trapping ability of clusters, the NdCo_(3)/pCN photocatalyst exhibits efficient nitrogen reduction activity with 371(in air) and 825 μmol h^(-1)g^(-1)(in pure nitrogen)without any sacrificial reagents. The introduction of potassium sulfate inhibits h.drogen production and promotes nitrogen reduction activation. This work suggests that anchoring precisely structured clusters on 2d materials may enhance photocatalytic nitrogen reduction under normal temperature and pressure.

Bioactive thermal spray coatings produced via high-velocity oxygen fuel spray(hVOF)from h.droxyapatite(hAp)and bioactive glasses(BG)have the potential to be employed on temporary implants due to the ability of both hAp and BG to dissolve and promote osseointegration,considering that both phases have different reaction and dissolution rates under in-vitro *** the present work,75%***-25%wt.S53p4 bioactive glass powders were hVOF-sprayed to obtain hAp/S53p4 BG composite coatings on a bioresorbable az31 *** study is focused on exploring the effect of the stand-off distance and fuel/oxygen ratio variation as hVOF parameters to obtain stable structural coatings and to establish their effect on the phases and microstructure produced in those *** characterization techniques,such as scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,were employed to characterize relevant structural and microstructural properties of the composite *** results showed that thermal gradients during coating deposition must be managed to avoid delamination due to the high temperature achieved(max 550℃)and the differences in coefficients of thermal *** was also found that both spraying distance and oxygen/fuel ratio allowed to keep the h.droxyapatite as the main phase in the *** addition,in-vitro electrochemical studies were performed on the obtained hAp/S53p4 BG composite coatings and compared against the uncoated az31 *** results showed a significant decrease in h.drogen evolution(at least 98%)when the bioactive coating was applied on the Mg alloy during evaluation in simulated body fluid(SBF).
