The genus Diaporthe comprises pathogenic,endophytic and saprobic species with both temperate and tropical *** diversification,phenotypic plasticity and extensive host associations have long complicated accurate identifications of species in this *** delimitation of the generic type species Diaporthe eres has been uncertain due to the lack of ex-type *** limits of *** and closely related species were evaluated using molecular phylogenetic analysis of eight genes including nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer(ITS),partial sequences of actin(AcT),DNA-lyase(Apn2),translation elongation factor 1-α(EF1-α),beta-tubulin(TUB),calmodulin(cAL),60s ribosomal protein L37(FG1093)and histone-3(HIS).The occurrence of sequence heterogeneity of ITS within *** is observed,which complicates the analysis and may lead to overestimation of the species *** strict criteria of Genealogical concordance Phylogenetic Species Recognition(GcPSR)were applied to resolve species boundaries based on individual and combined analyses of other seven genes except the *** accept nine distinct phylogenetic species including Diaporthe alleghaniensis,***,***,***,***,***,***,*** and *** are designated for ***,***,***,***,*** and *** descriptions and illustrations are provided for these *** designed primers are introduced to amplify and sequence the Apn2(DNA-lyase)gene in *** on phylogenetic informativeness profiles,EF1-α,Apn2 and HIS genes are recognised as the best markers for defining species in the *** complex.

A global enterprise must continuously improve the efficiency of logistic operations between supply chain collaborators. Integrating logistic services, resources, and necessary information flows in the supply chain to ensure efficiency and efficacy is critically important to these companies. Global logistic service companies face challenges from their clients to provide logistic services that are cost effective, accurate, and seamlessly integrate material, information and cash flows. In this research, an improved framework for one-stop logistic services is systematically designed, analyzed, and evaluated. The one-stop logistic service framework, defmed in four models, is developed to provide enterprises with integrated and comprehensive services within the global supply chain context. The levels of service importance are assessed using a four categories questionnaire. This research provides a case study of the implementation of one-stop logistic services in the distribution industry and demonstrates the framework operating under different demand conditions. Finally, system dynamics causal evaluation is used to evaluate the advantages of the logistic service framework.

Formation potential and analysis of 32 regulated and unregulated disinfection by-products: Two new simplified methods

Water disinfection is an essential process that provides safe water by inactivating pathogens that cause waterborne diseases. However, disinfectants react with organic matter naturally present in water, leading to the formation of disinfection by-products(DBPs). Multi-analyte methods based on mass spectrometry(MS) are preferred to quantify multiple DBP classes at once however, most require extensive sample pre-treatment and significant resources. In this study, two analytical methods were developed for the quantification of 32 regulated and unregulated DBPs. A purge and trap(P&T) coupled with gas chromatography mass spectrometry(Gc-MS) method was optimized that automated sample pre-treatment and analyzed volatile and semi-volatile compounds, including trihalomethanes(THMs), iodinated trihalomethanes(I-THMs), haloacetonitriles(HANs), haloketones(HKTs) and halonitromethanes(HNMs). loQs were between 0.02-0.4 μg/L for most DBPs except for 8 analytes that were in the low μg/L range. A second method with liquid chromatography(Lc) tandem mass spectrometry(MS/MS) was developed for the quantification of 10 haloacetic acids(HAAs) with a simple clean-up and direct injection. The Lc-MS/MS direct injection method has the lowest detection limits reported(0.2-0.5 μg/L). Both methods have a simple sample pre-treatment, which make it possible for routine analysis. Hyperchlorination and uniform formation conditions(UFc) formation potential tests with chlorine were evaluated with water samples containing high and low TOc. Hyperchlorination formation potential test maximized THMs and HAAs while UFc maximized HANs. Ascorbic acid was found to be an appropriate quencher for both analytical methods. Disinfected drinking water from four water utilities in Alberta, canada were also evaluated.

Twenty years of drought-mediated change in snag populations in mixed-conifer and ponderosa pine forests in Northern Arizona

Perceptual complexity of soil-landscape maps: a user evaluation of color organization in legend designs using eye tracking

We compared the ability of two legend designs on a soil-landscape map to efficiently and effectively support map reading tasks with the goal of better understanding how the design choices affect user *** such knowledge is essential to design effective interfaces for digital earth *** of the two legends contained an alphabetical ordering of categories,while the other used a perceptual grouping based on the Munsell color *** tested the two legends for 4 tasks with 20 experts(in geography-related domains).We analyzed traditional usability metrics and participants’eye movements to identify the possible reasons behind their success and failure in the experimental ***,an overwhelming majority of the participants failed to arrive at the correct responses for two of the four tasks,irrespective of the legend ***,participants’prior knowledge of soils and map interpretation abilities led to interesting performance differences between the two legend *** discuss how participant background might have played a role in performance and why some tasks were particularly hard to solve despite participants’relatively high levels of experience in map *** on our observations,we caution soil cartographers to be aware of the perceptual complexity of soil-landscape maps.

The potential of rapid visco-analysis starch pasting profiles to gauge the quality of sorghum as a feed grain for chicken-meat production

Thirteen extensively characterised grain sorghum varieties were evaluated in a series of 7 broiler bioassays. The efficiency of energy utilisation of broiler chickens offered sorghum-based diets is problematic and the bulk of dietary energy is derived from sorghum starch. For this reason, rapid visco-analysis(RVA)starch pasting profiles were determined as they may have the potential to assess the quality of sorghum as a feed grain for chicken-meat production. In review, it was found that concentrations of kafirin and total phenolic compounds were negatively correlated with peak and holding RVA viscosities to significant extents across 13 sorghums. In a meta-analysis of 5 broiler bioassays it was found that peak, holding,breakdown and final RVA viscosities were positively correlated with ME:GE ratios and peak and breakdown RVA viscosities with apparent metabolizable energy corrected for nitrogen(AMEn) to significant extents. In a sixth study involving 10 sorghum-based diets peak, holding and breakdown RVA viscosities were positively correlated with ME:GE ratios and AMEn. Therefore, it emerged that RVA starch pasting profiles do hold promise as a relatively rapid means to assess sorghum quality as a feed grain for chicken-meat production. This potential appears to be linked to quantities of kafirin and total phenolic compounds present in sorghum and it would seem that both factors depress RVA starch viscosities in vitro and, in turn, also depress energy utilisation in birds offered sorghum-based diets. Given that other feed grains do not contain kafirin and possess considerably lower concentrations of phenolic compounds, their RVA starch pasting profiles may not be equally indicative.

Showering in Flint, MI: Is there a DBP problem?

Lead contamination in the city of Flint, MI has been well documented over the past two years, with lead levels above the EPA Action Level until summer 2016. This resulted from an ill-fated decision to switch from Detroit water（Lake Huron） with corrosion control, to Flint River water without corrosion control. Although lead levels are now closer to normal,reports of skin rashes have sparked questions surrounding tap water in some Flint *** study investigated the presence of contaminants, including disinfection by-products（DBPs）, in the hot tap water used for showering in the homes of residents in Flint. Extensive quantitative analysis of 61 regulated and priority unregulated DBPs was conducted in Flint hot and cold tap water, along with the analysis of 50 volatile organic compounds and a nontarget comprehensive, broadscreen analysis, to identify a possible source for the reported skin rashes. For comparison, chlorinated hot and cold waters from three other cities were also sampled, including Detroit, which also uses Lake Huron as its source *** showed that hot water samples generally contained elevated levels of regulated and priority unregulated DBPs compared to cold water samples, but trihalomethanes were still within regulatory limits. Overall, hot shower water from Flint was similar to waters sampled from the three other cities and did not have unusually high levels of DBPs or other organic chemicals that could be responsible for the skin rashes observed by residents. It is possible that an inorganic chemical or microbial contaminant may be responsible.

Degradation of extracellular genomic, plasmid DNA and specific antibiotic resistance genes by chlorination

There is a need to improve understanding of the effect of chlorine disinfection on antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in order to advance relevant drinking water, wastewater, and reuse treatments. However, few studies have explicitly assessed the physical effects on the DNA. Here we examined the effects of free chlorine (1-20 mg cI2/L) on extracellular genomic, plasmid DNA and select ARGs. chlorination was found to decrease the fluorometric signal of extracellular genomic and plasmid DNA (ranging from 0.005 to 0.05 μg/mL) by 70%, relative to a no-chlorine control. Resulting DNA was further subject to a fragment analysis using a Bioanalyzer, indicating that chlorination resulted in fragmentation. Moreover, chlorine also effectively deactivated both chromosomal- and plasmidborne ARGs, mecK and tetA., respectively. For concentrations >2 mg cI2//L× 30 min, chlorine efficiently reduced the qPcR signal when the initial concentration of ARGs was 10^5 copies/μL or less. Notably, genomic DNA and mecA gene signals were more readily reduced by chlorine than the plasmid-bome tetK gene (by ~2 fold). Based on the results of qPcR with short (~200 bps) and long amplicons (-1200 bps), chlorination could destroy the integrity of ARGs, which likely reduces the possibility of natural transformation. Overall, our findings strongly illustrate that chlorination could be an effective method for inactivating extracellular chromosomal- and plasmid-bome DNA and ARGs.

Substantial population growth in the past decades around Victoria Harbour re- sulted in water quality deterioration from the discharge of preliminary treated sewage into the *** Harbour Area Treatment Scheme(HATS)is a centralised sewage collection and treatment scheme for areas on both sides of Victoria *** of this world-class sewage treatment infrastructure is being carried out in several stages,viz Stage 1,Stage 2A and Stage *** 1 of HATS involved the construction of a 23.6 km-long system of tunnels deep underground,carrying currently 1.4 million tonnes of sewage each day from Kowloon and the northeastern part of Hong Kong Island to a sewage treatment plant at Stonecutters Island for chemically enhanced primary treatment before *** 1 of HATS has brought about no- ticeable water quality improvement to the Victoria Harbour since its full commissioning in 2001 by treating 75% of the harbour sewage,but more needs to be done to restore the Harbour to a healthier *** 2A of HATS will upgrade the preliminary treatment works around the northern and southwestern shore of Hong Kong Island and construct a 21 km-long deep tunnel system to convey the sewage from Hong Kong Island to Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works(ScISTW),where the existing chemical treatment facilities will be expanded and new disinfection facilities *** planning and design for this phase is well underway with the aim of commissioning Stage 2A in *** 2B of HATS will involve the provision of bio- logical treatment at the ScISTW to further improve the effluent *** timing of the Stage 2B implementation will be decided upon a review of water quality trends,population increases and sewage flow build up to be undertaken in *** harbour water quality will benefit society in many different ways,including for example,enhanced recreational opportuni- ties,scenic quality,aesthetics,public health and safety as well as ecol
