In this study,we demonstrated the label-free continuous separation and enrichment of Bacillus subtilis populations based on length using viscoelastic ***,a gram-positive,rod-shaped bacterium,has been widely used as a model organism and an industrial *** can be arranged in different morphological forms,such as single rods,chains,and clumps,which reflect differences in cell types,phases of growth,genetic variation,and changing environmental *** ability to prepare *** populations with a uniform length is important for basic biological studies and efficient industrial ***,we systematically investigated how flow rate ratio,poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO)concentration,and channel length affected the length-based separation of *** *** lateral positions of *** cells with varying morphologies in a straight rectangular microchannel were found to be dependent on cell length under the co-flow of viscoelastic and Newtonian ***,we evaluated the ability of the viscoelastic microfluidic device to separate the two groups of *** cells by length(i.e.,1-5μm and>5μm)in terms of extraction purity(EP),extraction yield(EY),and enrichment factor(EF)and confirmed that the device could separate heterogeneous populations of bacteria using elasto-inertial effects.

Most heating,ventilation,and air-conditioning(HVAC)systems operate with one or more faults that result in increased energy consumption and that could lead to system failure over ***,most building owners are performing reactive maintenance only and may be less concerned or less able to assess the health of the system until catastrophic failure *** is mainly because the building owners do not previously have good tools to detect and diagnose these faults,determine their impact,and act on *** available fault detection and diagnostics(FDD)tools have been developed to address this issue and have the potential to reduce equipment downtime,energy costs,maintenance costs,and improve occupant comfort and system ***,many of these tools require an in-depth knowledge of system behavior and thermodynamic principles to interpret the *** this paper,supervised and semi-supervised machine learning(ML)approaches are applied to datasets collected from an operating system in the field to develop new FDD methods and to help building owners see the value proposition of performing proactive *** study data was collected from one packaged rooftop unit(RTU)HVAC system running under normal operating conditions at an industrial facility in *** paper compares three different approaches for fault classification for a real-time operating RTU using semi-supervised learning,achieving accuracies as high as 95.7%using few-shot learning.

Dear Editor,We report the case of severe mixed-mechanism glaucoma observed in a monocular Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome(ARS) patient who was successfully managed with an ahmed glaucoma implant(AGI) followed by a novel technique described as augmented Micro Pulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation(MP-TSCPC)[1]. ARS encompasses a heterogeneous spectrum of diseases involving anterior segment dysgenesis and systemic developmental anomalies[2].

The flow of non-starch polysaccharides along the gastrointestinal tract of broiler chickens fed either a wheat-or maize-based diet

The present study characterised the types and amounts of non-starch polysaccharides(NSP)remaining undigested along the gastrointestinal tract(GIT)of broiler chickens offered a typical wheat-or maizebased ***-day old Cobb 500 mixed-sex chicks were assigned to 24 pens,with 10 birds/pen and 12 pens/*** were offered the experimental diets in 3 phases(starter,day 0 to 10;grower,day 11 to 24 and finisher,day 25 to 35).Excreta and digesta samples from the crop,gizzard,duodenum,jejunum,ileum and caeca were collected at 12 and 35 days of age,and analysed for the NSP *** wheat-based diet contained higher levels of soluble NSP than the maize-based diet,whereas insoluble NSP levels were similar between the 2 *** analysis of NSP constituents revealed that arabinoxylans were the primary NSP in the wheat-based diet,mostly in insoluble *** were the predominant NSP in the maize-based diet,followed by ***,birds offered the wheatbased diet presented higher levels of soluble NSP remaining in all gut sections compared to birds offered the maize-based diet,at both 12 and 35 days of age(P<0.050).Accumulation of insoluble NSP in the gizzard was noted in birds fed both diets,but was more pronounced in birds offered the maize-based diet compared to the wheat-based diet,at both 12 and 35 days of age(P<0.001).The present study highlights marked differences in the amounts and types of NSP delivered to the different gut sections when feeding wheat-compared to maize-based diets,particularly in the gizzard and the lower GIT of birds.

Greenbug(Schizaphis graminum Rondani)is a destructive insect pest that not only damages plants,but also serves as a vector for many *** plant resistance is the preferred strategy for managing *** greenbug resistance genes,Rsg1 and Rsg2,have been reported in *** breed cultivars with effective resistance against various greenbug biotypes,additional resistance genes are urgently needed to sustain barley *** barley accession WBDC053(PI 681777)was previously found to be resistant to several greenbug *** this study,a recombinant inbred line(RIL)population derived from Weskan×WBDC053 was evaluated for response to two greenbug biotypes(E and TX1)and genotyped using genotyping by sequencing(GBS).A set of 3347 high quality GBS-derived single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)were then used to map the greenbug resistance gene in this wild barley *** analysis placed the greenbug resistance gene in a 2.35 Mb interval(0-2,354,645 bp)in the terminal region of the short arm of chromosome *** interval harbors 15 genes with leucine-rich-repeat(LRR)protein *** allelism test indicated that the greenbug resistance gene in WBDC053,designated Rsg2.a3,is likely allelic or closely linked to ***-SNPs 2H_1318811and 2H_1839499 co-segregating with Rsg2.a3 in the RIL population were converted to Kompetitive allele specific PCR(KASP)markers KASP-Rsg2.a3-1 and KASP-Rsg2.a3-2,*** two KASP markers can be used to select Rsg2.a3 and have the potential to tag Rsg2 in barley improvement programs.

Hypothetical hypoxia-driven rapid disease progression in hepatocellular carcinoma post transarterial chemoembolization:A case report

BACKGROUND Transarterial chemoembolization(TACE)is widely performed for intermediatestage or unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),but approximately half of patients do not respond to TACE *** describe a case of rapidly progressing of HCC after TACE and provide a possible hypothesis for this *** finding may contribute to identifying patients who obtain less benefit from TACE,thus avoiding the unnecessary waste of medical resources and treatment during the golden hour *** SUMMARY A 61-year-old woman had been diagnosed with chronic hepatitis B infection and HCC at Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage B,which had been treated by segmental hepatectomy 14 mo *** tumor recurred in the two months after *** received an initial TACE and then underwent systemic therapy with lenvatinib 8 mg daily due to an increased level of alpha-fetoprotein(AFP)after the first ***,the tumor continued to progress with an increased level of AFP,and she underwent a second TACE,after which the tumor volume did not obviously decrease on the contrast-enhanced computed tomography *** month later,she had a third TACE to control the residual HCC *** weeks after that,the HCC had increased dramatically with tea-colored urine and yellowish skin ***,the patient refused further treatment and went into hospice *** Intense hypoxia induced by TACE can trigger rapid disease progression in infiltrative HCC patients with a large tumor burden.

This study was to characterise the undigested nutrients present along the gastrointestinal tract of birds offered common wheat-or maize-based diets,with the goal of optimising utilisation of enzymes to enhance digestive ***-and maize-based diets were offered to 240 mixed-sex broilers(10 birds/pen;n=12)from 1 to 35 d *** of dry matter,starch,crude protein and nonstarch polysaccharides(NSP)were measured in the crop,gizzard,duodenum,jejunum,ileum,caeca and excreta at d 12 and 35 *** of nutrient levels in the excreta presented that more than 30%of nutrients provided in the feed was wasted,irrespective of wheat or maize diet *** average,92 g/kg crude protein,92 g/kg insoluble NSP and 14 g/kg oligosaccharides were not utilised by birds at d 12 *** quantity of water-insoluble NSP in the small intestine at d 12 was lower in birds offered the wheat-based diet compared to those fed the maize-based diet(P<0.05),with the reverse being true for water-soluble NSP(P<0.001).On average,84 g/kg crude protein,79 g/kg insoluble NSP and 9 g/kg oligosaccharides remained in the excreta at 35 d of *** this time period,accumulation of feed in the gizzard was noted for birds offered both diets,but was more pronounced in those offered the maize-based diet(P<0.001).Birds offered the maize-based diet demonstrated improved utilisation of oligosaccharides compared to those fed the wheat-based diet at both d 12 and 35(P=0.087 and P=0.047,respectively).Protein utilisation in the jejunum and ileum was greater in birds offered the wheat-based diet compared to those fed the maize-based diet(P=0.004 and P<0.001,respectively).Thus,while both diets supported standard growth performance of birds,the degree and flow of nutrient disappearance along the gastrointestinal tract was influenced by cereal type and bird age.

Psychological and Physiological Health Benefits of a Structured Forest Therapy Program for Children and Adolescents with Mental Health Disorders

Mental health conditions in children and adolescents can be improved by slow mindful nature connection known as forest therapyor *** therapy has recently received growing attention as an enabler of relaxation and preventive health care withdemonstrated clinical ***,it is not well-known that forest therapy also decreases mental health issues amongindividuals with mental health *** study explored the psychological and physiological health benefits of structuredforest therapy programs for children and adolescents with mental health disorders.A one-group pre-test-posttest design wasemployed for our study *** participants(aged 9–14 years)engaged in two one-hour guided standard sequenceforest therapy experiences.A Mindful Attention Awareness Scale(MAAS),Connectedness to Nature Scale(CNS),Profile ofMood States(POMS),place meanings(e.g.,functional,emotional,and cognitive attachment to the forest)questionnaire,andphysiological health assessment were administered to the *** results showed that negative mood states weresignificantly reduced and that a positive mood state was significantly improved after the structured forest therapy ***,mindfulness,nature connection,place meanings,and physiological health were significantly boosted after *** results demonstrate substantial psychological and physiological health and well-being outcomes ofstructured forest therapy for similar individuals.

Non-starch polysaccharide-degrading enzymes may improve performance when included in wheat- but not maize-based diets fed to broiler chickens under subclinical necrotic enteritis challenge

The present study investigated whether supplementing fibre-degrading enzymes can ameliorate the severity of subclinical necrotic enteritis(NE)in broiler chickens offered wheat-or maize-based diets.A total of 1,544 mixed-sex broiler chickens were assigned to 16 experimental treatments as a 2×2×4 factorial arrangement of *** factors were the following:NE challenge,yes or no;diet type,wheat-or maize-based;and enzyme supplementation,control(no enzyme),family 10 xylanase(XYN10),family 11 xylanase(XYN11)or b-mannanase(MAN).Each treatment was replicated 6 times,with 16 birds per replicate pen.A three-way challenge×diet type×enzyme interaction occurred for body weight at 21 d of age(P=0.025)and overall feed conversion ratio(P=0.001).In the non-challenged birds fed the wheat-based diet,supplementing MAN increased d 21 body weight compared to the *** challenged birds fed the maize-based diet,supplemental XYN11 impeded body weight and overall FCR compared to the *** offered the maize-based diet presented heavier relative gizzard weights at both 16 and 21 d of age(P<0.001)and reduced liveability(P=0.046)compared to those fed the wheatbased *** supplementation reduced ileal and jejunal digesta viscosity at 16 d of age only in birds fed the wheat-based diet(P<0.001).XYN11 increased ileal digesta viscosity in birds fed the maizebased diet,and MAN reduced it in birds fed the wheat-based diet at 21 d of age(P=0.030).Supplementing XYN11 improved ileal soluble non-starch polysaccharides(NSP)digestibility in birds fed the wheat-based diet compared to non-supplemented birds(P<0.001).Birds fed the wheat-based diet displayed a higher abundance of Bifidobacterium,Lactobacillus and Enterobacteriaceae and butyric acid in the caeca at 16 d of age compared to birds fed the maize-based diet(P<0.05).In conclusion,supplemental XYN11 exacerbated the negative impact of NE on growth performance in birds fed the maizebased *** wheat-based diets with
