Identification of research gaps to improve care for healthy ageing:a scoping review

Objective Several research gaps affect the improvement of care for healthy *** identification is crucial to developing a specific research prioritisation agenda supporting progress at the micro(clinical),meso(service delivery)and macro(system)*** achieve this,a scoping review was carried out to describe the most significant gaps impeding the improvement of care for healthy *** A scoping review of the literature was conducted according to the Joanna Briggs Institute *** selected articles were analysed to identify topics or areas essential for improving care for healthy ageing but requiring further support from *** criteria Every type of scientific article,except for randomised controlled trials,was considered of potential interest without restrictions on publication date,type of publication and *** sources A systematic search(last search:6 December 2023)was conducted using PubMed,MEDLINE and *** Overall,1558 articles were retrieved from the *** these,310 were finally retained for this work.A total of 1195 research gaps were identified(average:3.85 per article)and clustered into the 13 primary areas:ageing,care approach,caregivers,health economics,health,interventions,policies,research,settings,training,technology,specific populations and understanding the older *** particular,research for improving the person-centred approach(n=38),better considering cultural diversities(n=27),implementing integrated care(n=25)and ensuring access to care(n=25)were the most prevalent priorities reported in the *** A wide range of factors spanning multiple disciplines,from clinical to policy levels,require special consideration,exploration and *** findings of this scoping review represent an essential step in identifying gaps for developing a research prioritisation agenda to improve care for healthy ageing.

INTRODUCTION The United Nations(UN)Decade of Healthy Ageing(2021–2030),coordinated by the World Health Organization(WHO),1 is a global collaborative initiative aimed at improving the lives of older people,their families and the communities.23 The Action Areas 3(ie,‘deliver person-centred,integrated care and primary health services responsive to older people’)and 4(ie,‘provide access to long-term care(LTC)for older people who need it’)of the Decade’s work programme focus on reorienting health and care systems to promote‘ageing in place’and the delivery of personalised interventions in a seamless continuum of care.

In vitro bioactivity and phytochemical analysis of two marine macro-algae

Objective: To evaluate the in vitro bioactivity and phytochemical analysis of two marine macro-algae viz., Sargassum wightii (S. wightii) and Gracilaria verrucosa (G. verrucosa). Methods: The marine macro-algae were collected from Gulf of Mannar (latitude 8°55'–9°15' N and longitude 78°–79°16' E), India. The collected marine macro-algae were shade dried, powdered and extracted in Soxhlet apparatus with acetone, methanol, chloroform and petroleum ether separately. Antimicrobial assay was performed against nine bacterial pathogens (isolated from infected ornamental fish) and two fungal strains. The extracts were further tested for anti-hemolytic activity following standard protocol. The methanol extracts were also tested for its anti-cancer property against human AGS cell line. Results: High antibacterial activity was displayed by the petroleum ether extract of G. verrucosa against Micrococcus sp. ((31.5 ± 6.5) mm)Maximum [(21.5 ± 1.0) mm] anti-fungal activity was exerted by the methanol extracts of S. wightii and G. verrucosa against Candida sp. Acetone extract of G. verrucosa produced better anti-hemolytic activity (96.47% ± 0.31%) than other tested extracts. Methanol extract of both seaweeds failed to produce any anti-cancer activity against human AGS cell line. Quantitative phytochemical analysis revealed elevated levels of alkaloids (56 mg/g), saponins (44.5 mg/g), flavonoids (500 mg/g) and phenols (220 mg/g) in G. verrucosa when compared to S. wightii. Conclusions: The tested macro-algae are good source of bioactive compounds, and G. verrucosa displayed better activity than S. wightii and could be explored further.

KLnF_(4):Yb^(3+),Er^(3+)/Ho^(3+)(Ln=Y,Yb,Gd)phosphors were prepared by solid-state reaction *** each of the Yb^(3+)/Er^(3+)and Yb^(3+)/Ho^(3+)co-doped phosphors independently,phase confirmation and morphological examination were accomplished using the X-ray diffraction technique and scanning electron microscope analysis.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis shows the charge state and existence of lanthanides and *** luminescence emissions of green and red colour were detected for the synthesized *** changes in the upconverted emission intensities and colour output pertaining to the change of the lanthanide host matrix along with dopants were investigated for the prepared *** the upconversion luminescence,erbium-doped samples exhibit a predominance of red emission while holmium-doped samples display a prevalence of green *** rare-earth Er/Ho doped KYbF4shows strong red emission compared to other ***_(4):Yb,Er/Ho exhibits relatively significant green upconve rsion emissions,while Yb,Er-doped KGdF_(4)host displays a 10-fold increase in green/red emission ratio with an increase in the input power of 20-780 *** photoluminescence studies and decay curve analysis were carried out using UV light excitation for the developed phosphors.A higher lifetime of 2.2 ms was measured for the downshifting red emission in the Ho doped KYbF_(4)*** study suggests a potential for colour tunability in the upconversion and downshifting emissions through host modifications to the fluoride phosphor.

Textile reinforced mortar is widely used as an overlay for the repair,rehabilitation,and retrofitting of concrete ***,textile reinforced concrete has been identified as a suitable lining material for improving the durability of existing concrete *** this study,we developed a textile-reinforced mortar mix using river sand and evaluated the different characteristics of the textile-reinforced mortar under various exposure *** were carried out in two *** the first phase,the pullout strength,temperature resistance,water absorption,and compressive and bending strength values of three different textile-reinforced mortar mixes with a single type of textile reinforcement were *** the second phase,the chemical resistance of the mix that showed the best performance in the abovementioned tests was examined for use as an overlay for a concrete *** were performed on three different thicknesses of the textile reinforced mortar overlaid on concrete specimens that were subjected to acidic and alkaline *** flexural responses and degradations of the textile reinforced mortar overlaid specimens were examined by performing bending *** experimental findings indicated the feasibility of using textile reinforced mortar as an overlay for durable concrete construction practices.

This paper proposes a novel single phase symmetrical and asymmetrical type extendable multilevel inverter topology with minimum number of *** basic circuit of the proposed inverter topology consist of four dc voltage sources and 10 main switches which synthesize 9-level output voltage during symmetrical operation and 17-level output voltage during asymmetrical *** comparison between the proposed topology with conventional and other existing inverter topologies is presented in this *** advantages of the proposed inverter topology include minimum switches,less harmonic distortion and minimum switching *** performance of the proposed multilevel inverter topology has been analyzed in both symmetrical and asymmetrical *** simulation model is developed using MATLAB/SIMULINK software to verify the performance of the proposed inverter.

Dual antidiabetic and antihypertensive activity of fucoxanthin isolated from Sargassum wightii Greville in in vivo rat model

In a previous study from our laboratory, fucoxanthin purified from brown algae, Sargassum wightii Greville has found to exhibit antioxidant activity and inhibition of angiotensin-I-converting enzyme(ACE)in vitro. The present study aims in understanding the protective effect of fucoxanthin purified from S. wightii against diabetes with hypertension in in vivo. Diabetes and hypertension were induced in rat by streptozotocin and sodium chloride treatment, respectively. In diabetes with hypertension rat, the blood pressure was increased along with hyperglycemia. Administration of fucoxanthin significantly reduced the blood pressure and ACE activity in diabetes with hypertension rat. Furthermore, administration of fucoxanthin significantly reduced the hyperglycemic state. The activity of various enzymes in the liver(hexokinase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphatase and fructose-1,6-phosphatase)and serum(creatine kinase)were normalized to that of control level. The level of glycogen, glycoprotein component and lipid profile were equivalent to control level by fucoxanthin administration in diabetes with hypertension rats. Fucoxanthin ameliorated the oxidative stress by preserving the endogenous antioxidant levels in diabetes with hypertension rats. Also, the pancreatic histological integrity was similar to that of control level in diabetes with hypertension rats by fucoxanthin treatment. Altogether, fucoxanthin showed dual antidiabetic and antihypertensive activity in vivo.

Membrane computing is a branch of natural computing aiming to abstract computing ideas for the structure and the functioning of living cells as well as from the way the cells are organized in tissues or higher-order structures. Trajectories are used as a tool for modeling language operations and other related objects. A trajectory P system consists of a membrane structure in which the object in each mem- brane is a collection of words and the evolutionary rules are given in terms of trajectories. In this paper, we present some properties of trajectory P systems.

P systems generating iso-picture languages

P systems generating rectangular arrays and hexagonal arrays have been studied in the literature, bringing together the two areas of theoretical computer science, namely membrane computing and picture languages. Recently, a new class of picture languages called the class of iso-picture languages generating interesting picture languages has been introduced. In this paper, we develop a class of tissue-like P systems with active membranes as a generative device for iso-picture languages.

Seroprevalence of HCV and its co-infection with HBV and HIV among liver disease patients of South Tamil Nadu

AIM:To determine the seroprevalence of hepatitis C virus(HCV) and its co-infection with hepatitis B virus(HBV),hepatitis delta agent(HDV) and human immunodeficiency virus(HIV) among liver disease patients of south Tamil Nadu. METHODS:A total of 1012 samples comprising 512 clinically diagnosed cases of liver disease patients and 500 apparently healthy age and sex matched individuals were screened for Hepatitis C virus(anti HCV and HCV RNA) ,Hepatitis B virus(HBsAg),Hepatitis delta agent(anti HDV) and Human immuno virus(antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2) using commercially available enzyme linked immunosorbent assay *** RNA wasdetected by *** function tests like ALT,AST,GGT,ALP,bilirubin and albumin were also studied. RESULTS:The seroprevalence of HCV was found to be 5.6%among liver disease patients by ELISA.27/512,49/512 and 12/512 patients were positive for HIV,HBV &HDV ***-infection of HCV&HBV was found in 8 patients,with 6 for HCV&HIV and 4 for HCV,HBV&HIV ***-wise analysis showed that HIV,HCV&HBV and HCV&HIV co-infection was high among females whereas for HBV it was high in males. The mean ALT and AST in HCV positive cases were 42.1±8.3 and 49±*** people co-infected with HCV&HBV or HCV&HIV or HCV,HBV&HIV the mean ALT of 58.0±03.16,56.78±4.401 and 64.37±4.01 respectively. CONCLUSION:We strongly recommend routine test of the blood for HCV in addition to HBV and *** also recommend individualized counseling to identify those at risk and testing for those who want *** surveillance and periodic epidemiological studies will have to be undertaken to monitor and prevent these blood-borne viruses.
