Currently,there are no harmonized guidelines which govern skin banking in the Asia Pacific ***,skin banks are either unregulated or rely on their nation’s legislation or international accreditation to uphold their quality standards.A new set of skin banking guidelines was devel-oped through a comprehensive review and collation of best international practices for the Asia Pacific Burn Association(APBA)members,from donor screening and testing,to skin recovery,processing,storage and distribution,and quality *** regulatory requirements reviewed include the European directives,Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration and sin-gapore’s tissue banking *** technical and quality management recommendations are referenced from the American Association of Tissue Banks(AATB),the United states Food and Drug Administration standards and guidance documents,various relevant European guides,Japanese society of Tissue Transplantation guidelines and the Asia Pacific Association of surgical Tissue *** mainly from the AATB standards,the new Asia Pacific Burn Association Guidelines for skin Banking in Therapeutic Applications offer a comprehensive manual,address-ing:governance and contracts;staff responsibilities;quality management;facilities,equipment and supplies management;donor consent and testing;and recommendations of good practices pertaining to skin recovery,processing,storage and *** complementing current generic regulations,they provide technical specifications of major aspects unaddressed in most *** inaugural set of new regional skin banking guidelines would be a start for regional members of the APBA to adopt,and will hopefully culminate in a set of standards so that,in the long run,skin allografts from this region can be of similar quality,which can simplify import process and facilitate the exchange of allografts between members.

DPPD (Rv0061) is a difficult to express protein of Mycobacterium tuberculosis that elicits strong and specific delayed type hypersensitiv-ity reactions in humans infected with M. tuber-culosis. Therefore DPPD is a molecule that can improve the specificity of the tuberculin skin test, which is widely used as an aid for the di-agnosis of tuberculosis. However, a pitfall of our initial studies was that the DPPD molecule used to perform the skin tests was engineered as fu-sion molecule with another Mycobacterium protein. This approach was used because no expression of DPPD could be achieved either as a single molecule or as a fusion protein using a variety of commercially available expression systems. Here, we report the production and purification of rDPPD using a synthetic gene engineered to contain E. coli codon bias. The gene was cloned into pET14b expression vector, which was subsequently used to transform Rosetta 2(DE3)pLyss or BL-21(DE3)pLyss host cells. The recombinant protein was over-ex- pressed after induction with IPTG and its puri-fication was easily achieved at levels of 5 – 10 mg/l of bacterial broth cultures. The purified protein was confirmed to be DPPD by Mass spectroscopy sequencing analysis. Moreover, purified rDPPD stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells of PPD positive blood do-nors to produce high levels of IFN-γ, thus con-firming that this molecule is biologically active. Because of the DPPD gene is restricted to the tuberculosis-complex organisms of Mycobacte-rium genus, this highly purified molecule should be useful for the identification of indi-viduals sensitized with tubercle

Fifteen beach sand samples were collected from a depth of 1mt at different locations of the Astaranga beach, puri with an interval of 300 mts. The beach sand samples were studied for heavy mineral concentration at different location points and were subjected to scanning electron microscope studies for the mineral ilmenite. The percentage of total heavy mineral in Astaranga beach varies from 16.42% to 24.47%. The important minerals are ilmenite, rutile, zircon, sillimanite, garnet, monazite, pyroxene and others. For all samples a set of sieves bearing AsTM nos. 30, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, 170 and 200 corresponding to 0.59 mm, 0.42 mm, 0.25 mm, 0.177 mm, 0.149 mm, 0.125 mm, 0.105 mm, 0.088 mm and 0.074 mm respectively were used to separate different size fractions. The sieve mesh sizes vary from 0.59 mm to 0.74 mm. It was observed that maximum concentration of heavies was confined to +200 AsTM sieve or 0.74 mm. The total average heavy mineral concentration and light mineral concentration was found to be 20.07% and 79.49% respectively. The concentration percentage of different heavy minerals varied from higher to lower in the order like ilmenite, zircon, sillimanite, garnet, rutile, pyroxene, monazite and others. The ilmenite mineral in this area is found to have altered to secondary phases like pseudorutile, leucoxene and rutile along the fractures, cavities and grain boundaries. The alteration condition was observed as streaks, irregular patches, bands, and rim like structures around the ilmenite grains. Detailed study of alteration in ilmenite was carried out by Energy Dispersive spectrometer (EDs) attached to scanning Electron Microscope. The potentialities of heavies found at different locations of the Astaranga beach suggested a good source for the exploration. The alteration of the mineral ilmenite and high concentration of heavy minerals clearly pointed to the sedimentary environment and mechanical concentration process due to repeated wave action.

Background: Preliminary evidence suggests beneficial effects of pure ethyl-eicosapentaenoate (ethyl-EPA) in Huntington disease (HD). Methods: A total of 135 patients with HD were randomized to enter a multicenter. double-blind, placebo-con-trolled trial on the efficacy of 2 g/d ethyl-EPA vs placebo. The Unified Huntington’s Disease Rating scale (UHDRs) was used for assessment. The primary end point was outcome at 12 months on the Total Motor score 4 subscale (TMs4). Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) and a χ2 test on response, defined as absence of increase in the TMs-4, were performed. Results: A total of 121 patients completed 12 months, and 83 did so without protocol violations (PP cohort). Intent-to-treat (ITT) analysis revealed no significant difference between ethyl-EPA and placebo for TMs-4. In the PP cohort, ethyl-EPA proved better than placebo on the χ2 test on TMs-4 (p ssed significance on ANCOVA (p=0.06). secondary end points (ITT cohort) show-ed no benefit of ethyl-EPA but a significantly worse outcome in the behavioral severity and frequency compared with placebo. Exploring moderators of the efficacy of ethyl-EPA on TMs-4 showed a significant interaction between treatment and a factor defining patients with high vs low CAG repeats. Reported adverse events were distributed equally between treatment arms. Conclusions: Ethyl-eicosapentae-noate (ethyl-EPA) (purity >95%) had no benefit in the intent-to-treat cohort of patients with Huntington disease, but exploratory analysis revealed that a significantly higher number of patients in the per protocol cohort, treated with ethyl-EPA, showed stable or improved motor function. Further studies of the potential efficacy of ethyl-EPA are warranted.

以烟草花叶病毒（TMv）为例研究了制备植物病毒抗血清的一般方法．以家兔和小白鼠为免疫动物，运用饱和硫酸接沉淀法制备出高效价的兔和瓦抗TMV血清，并运用先进的ELIsA方法测定了抗血清中抗体IgG的效价；用醋酸纤维凝胶电泳技术分析了抗血清中抗体的lgG纯度，应用免疫双扩散法检测了提纯的IgG的生物活性．同时还运用成二醛一步法制出高结合率的IgG与过氧化氢酶（HRP）标记的抗体，形成了一整套制备抗血清、纯化IgG并对IgG进行酶标的技术，为植物病毒检测提供了快速简便的方法．
